First Cut

Very satisfied customer. Kurt has a great talent and my 2 year old felt very comfortable, and rather proud of his cut at the end.

After reading all the Unilocal reviews I decided to take my son there for his 1^st professional haircut. He is 17 months and I tried cutting his fine hair a few months back but it came out horrible.
We went at 3 pm on December 26 so the place was empty. The salon is very well decorated and inviting for children. Lulu was quick and precise. He did ok for the first part but when she turned on the clippers he freaked out. She was extremely calm and patient with him. She did great job! Highly recommend this cute salon for little ones.
My only negative thought is the lack of seat belt on the airplane chairs. I have an active boy and he just wanted to stand. A seat belt would have prevented so much freedom.

I really appreciate the difference a good haircut makes on a little boy. We have three sons and I can’t imagine ever let anyone else cut their hair — Cathy gets it right every single time. She’s happy and she’s loud and she’s fun… and the haircuts are quick and stylish every time.

This review is long overdue. Kathy was AMAZING with our son who has some sensory issues and does not like getting haircuts. I really can’t say enough about how kind, patient and wonderful she was with him. She took her time and ensured we were all happy and his haircut looked (and still does) amazing. We will definitely be going back. Thank you Kathy!!!

I’ve been bringing my daughter here since she was one and is now five. I always take her to LuLu who is so sweet and always takes care of us. She does a wonderful job and provides excellent customer service. I have recommended her to other friends and family.

We love the attention to detail and the friendliness of both Miss Lulu and Miss Kathy. No shampooing included in the basic cut so if you mind that, come with clean hair!

We’ve been coming here for years for my 3 sons and Lulu and Kurt are both great! They do a great job for a great price!

I am beyond happy with First Cuts! I had to drive 30 minutes to get there but SO worth it. The salon is clean and super cute. My 2yr old loved the rockets (he had to sit in all of them!) Kathy was so amazing with him. Very sweet and interacted so well with him– she’s wonderful with kids! My husband has told me about 15 times how much he loves our sons new haircut so thank you Kathy! :-) We will keep coming back!

Love the way Cathy cuts my son’s hair! He’s got long hair so most hairstylists want to just shorten it into a typical boy’s cut. But Cathy understands the length and layers it so it doesn’t look like it just got cut. She’s super friendly so my son looks forward to going and chatting with her about roller coasters!
Although there isn’t a parking lot, there is always parking in front on PCH or just around the corner.
Curt’s very good as well. We’ve been going there since my son’s first haircut years ago so long overdue for a review.

Lulu!!! Amazing. Took my 14 month in for his 1^st haircut and as we imagined, he would not let anyone touch him. So my wife sat with him and Lulu went to work. She was so gentle and patient with him, it was fantastic! He even let her use clippers on his n ch and behind the ear. Great 1^st haircut experience for us all. Thank you Lulu!

$ 25 well spent! From the moment I called to see if they could see my almost 2 yr old son on short notice, I received professional and warm service. I called at 10am and they were able to squeeze us in at 10:15! Cathy took great care of my son. She was absolutely delightful! She showed him all the toys and movie, and got to cutting his hair which only took 10 minutes. She gave him a lollipop and we were on our way. I highly recommend this shop as they make both the parents and kids feel great.

Another FANTASTIC visit with Lulu!
We brought our now 14 month old who still isn’t quite ready to sit in the airplane seat, so she expertly draped me and went to work on him as he sat on my lap. Lulu is fantastic and I can’t imagine anyone else cutting my son’s hair as well as she does. She just works on whatever side and area she has access to and if he moves, she does too. She is awesome and the shop is great too.

Perfect place for your kids haircuts. Lulu is incredibly patient and friendly. Little ones will enjoy airplane seats, toys everywhere and cartoons on TV screens in front of them. My 4-​year-​old loves going there. First time we took him, he was 1 and yes, there were some tears, but if they aren’t comfortable straight away — just have them sit on your lap.

Lulu is so great! She is very patient and takes the time to make little ones feel comfortable with the water, scissors, and clippers instead of just going straight for their head — I think this makes a huge difference and saves us from lots of tears! I have had my son’s hair cut at 3 different places including here (we were out of town so we couldn’t come here a couple of times) and she did the best job by far. So not only was it less traumatic for my son but I was much happier with the cut.

My 1.5yo. daughter LOVED this place, and so did I! Lulu cut her hair, and she was very sweet, calm, attentive and detail oriented. She walked us through every step to ensure that we were satisfied with the cut, and my daughter sat perfectly still for her. They have cool planes for the kids to sit in (though I wish they had seat belts in them!), the place was clean, we were welcomed immediately and warmly, the setting was casual with kids playing in the back, there were TV’s for each kid, baskets of toys, and a great youthful ambiance. I will definitely bring my daughter back here, she gets so many compliments on her hair cut and she didn’t want to leave!

Like many parents, we’d been delaying our 1-​year old son’s first haircut for fear that it would be a traumatic experience for him (and us)…or maybe not even possible for him to sit still long enough.
Lulu from First Cut to the rescue! She made him feel comfortable with her soothing voice and friendliness. She genuinely seems like kids, and I think they can feel that. My son also enjoyed getting to sit in a rocket ship with a steering wheel while watching himself in the mirror.
My husband took pictures while I held my son upright in the little rocket. It was very manageable and pleasant – fun, even. Lulu works quickly and the cut was over in less than 15 minutes. She even collected some of his cut curls for us to keep in his baby book.
Twenty bucks + tip does seem like a lot, but I think it was worth it to spend a few extra dollars and have a pleasant experience. I highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a first haircut for their little one.

My 2 year old gave us a hard time with other barbers but at this place he went with it. The cool airplane seat, watching cartoons and the friendly hair stylist made our experience great. I just wish there is another location closer to where we live. Btw the haircut was great!

Both my sons have had their first cuts at First Cut (three years apart).
Thankfully, Lulu was there to make the occasion all that more special. She really is the bombastic! Über professional, very friendly and more importantly patient and accommodating to my kids.
I cannot recommend this place enough, yes its a little pricey but as long as my man (or woman in this case) is there, happy to pay for that level of professionalism.

Best place to take your kids for a haircut. My son likes to play in the rocket ship chair until its his turn and then it’s strictly business. He sits in my lap with a sucker in one hand and a toy in the other and watches TV while the amazing Lulu cuts his hair and talks about the cartoon he’s watching! I took my son to a different place to get his hair cut closer to home but he screamed the whole time and ended up with half a hair cut because he was so upset. Never again! I will drive the extra miles and pay a little extra so that he isn’t traumatized. They are so friendly and patient!

Whether your kids are young or old, First Cut is a great salon for children of any age to get a haircut!
My son used to hate getting his haircut. Then we started coming here! Lulu is wonderful. She is patient and kind. She is really great with squirmy kids that just can’t sit still. Finally, my son doesn’t mind getting his haircut anymore.
This place is really cute. There are these little planes for the youngest kids to sit and relax in while getting a haircut. There are also televisions throughout the salon so kids can watch their favorite Disney or Nickelodeon programming while getting a trim.
They also sell lots of great shampoos and conditioners for babies here. They have a good selection of natural products. These products are nice for children that are more sensitive. I wish I knew about these great items when my son was really little.
For a great haircut at a reasonable price, First Cut is a wonderful place for a child’s haircut! The hairdressers are so nice here!
