Gould’s Day Spa & Salon

Paula, my regular hairdresser, is amazing! I have long/​straight/​fine hair, and I usually get a side bang cut, layers, and a dye job. She always uses the best products, and my hair comes out looking gorgeous every time. She was even able to fix a HORRIBLE gone-​wrong ombré I got done at Empire Hair Studio. The salon itself is modern, clean, and nicely decorated. The staff are always welcoming and kind. I love coming here! If I could afford it, I would do the spa too. I’ve done it a few times (as a result of gift cards), and it was fabulous as well.

Just had a massage from Shannon, and it was great. She had a lot of work to do because Massage Paradise in Lakeland really messed me up. She was fixed everything and wd not stop till she broke up all my knots.

I had completely ruined my hair and came to have it fixed. If anything it was worse! My hairdresser dyed it black and there was green then she continued to tell me id need to cut 8″ off. By this time I had left very sad and angry. Do not come here to get your hair dyed!!!

Always get a great cut here. You can’t beat the tenure you find here. Experienced professionals that just know what to do — no need for pics of magazine of haircuts. Just go in and let them do what they do best — hair ! I have never had a bad cut. Massage or manicure. Cuts are pricey but your paying for experience.

Today was my first time at Gould’s and I went in for some highlights. I was called to my appointment early so it all started out great. My hairstylist was really friendly and handled my hair with care. However, I personally was not satisfied because I asked for lighter highlights and that’s not what I got. Also, when I came to pull up my hair I noticed I had horizontal strips through my hair. It looks fine from the top, I just cannot pull it up. Now, what is really making me give this place a two star is the front desk. The rudest young lady I have met. I wish I knew her name. When I was checking out after my service I asked her the price of a certain shampoo. Her answer was «I don’t really know.» So I told her well I tried to check but there is no pricing on any of your products. She said «Ya we don’t put any pricing.» So I told her you dont know the pricing and you dont label your products can you check for me what the price is? She said ummm its like around 21 dollars. I asked her around? Can you please tell me the exact price? She said «ya ya its 21 dollars.» I told her okay I am gonna take the shampoo and conditioner. She looks at me and goes «Uh its not 21 dollars for both its 21 dollars each» but she said it in a way as if I cant afford it or something so I was offended. I told her um ya thats fine. I just felt that whole experience ruined my entire day!

Services were very good. However, the women’s locker/​changing room opens into the main hallway. To change into your robe, the options were to change in the main room (out in the open) or use the shower or bathroom stall. I would have appreciated a private place to change with hooks for clothes (I used the shower and had to put all my belongings on the floor). The spa area could also use a facelift (It’s 1980’s Italian style complete with silk plants and flowers). A cleaner, more zen spa would have been more rejuvenating. Although I was happy with the services, I’d opt for a place with more privacy and updated look in the future.

I went here for the first time seeking corrective color for a mess that was made of my hair elsewhere. When I made my appointment I explained my situation and the receptionist said that Angela was excellent with color. I went in for my appointment and everyone was very friendly and the salon itself is very chic and decorated well. Angela was an absolute professional and very efficient at her work. She fixed my hair and made it look awesome! I have definitely found my new stylist. If you make an appointment, ask for Angela Allen!

I had made an appointment to donate to Locks of Love in honor of my son that passed away in August.
I made an appointment with this location. Upon receiving an appointment reminder today, the caller forgot to hang up the phone when she was done and then proceeded to trash talk my personal voicemail message with another employee, using terms like «that’s just gross» and the other employee stating «why would anyone think to do that for their voicemail»? (my voicemail is a singing voicemail, regardless it IS my personal phone)
I was appalled with the manner in which they conducted themselves at their place of employment. At the very least, they could have made sure the phone was properly hung up. I called the Manager directly and told her the situation. She seemed genuinely sympathetic and concerned however, I had to cancel my appointment as I did not feel comfortable going to a location that talks about its customers in such a way.
I felt it was necessary to share my experience as it happened to me, it is probably happening to other customers.
Luckily I went to a different Gould’s location and was treated very well. My household does not tolerate bullies, especially «behind-​your-​back» bullies.
****UPDATE: David Gould Called and apologized personally for the way his Cordova staff had acted. While I still recommend going to different Gould’s locations, I will say that I am impressed with how promptly the situation has been addressed.

This place is garbage!!! Knowing that it received «best of Memphis» makes me think I’m going to have to go to Nashville to get my hair done.
I like to have my hair blown out once a month. Almost every time they reach for a flat iron. WTF? Did I ask for a flat iron you lazy hefer?
Every time I’ve gone, my hair looks like something I could have done myself without a mirror. Today I went for the third time. Thought maybe I was just unlucky. Same thing a lazy blow dry without any body. I also got my brows done. The women hacked them. One is an arch the other flat. For an extra added bonus she dumped about 2 oz of wax in my hair. She was able to get the wax out with oil. My hair (which was that great to begin with) ruined. I told the staff at the front counter. They were like, so? Then they handed me my credit card receipt!!! Unreal!
Do yourself a favor and don’t waste your time.
If someone has suggestions lets me know.

After moving to TN, I had no idea which salon to choose. I lucked out!
I typically get a partial highlight and cut. The total at Gould’s was only $ 100!
Jesamie was my stylist. She was professional and truly cared about my hair. She did a great job and offered to alter anything I didn’t like.
I’ve already made my next appt.

Love the Spa, Hate the Salon
I went here once for my hair, because i got impatient and did not wait for the person who normally does mine at a diffent Salon. I will not make that mistake again!
The lady who did my hair at Gould’s fried my hair. I asked for highlights and I got fried blonde hair, it wasn’t even a highlighted, it was like an incomplete dye job. I am sure that this Salon has other qualified stylists, but I will not chance this again.
I love the Spa. They always do a great job and are very nice and professional. I just hate the cost. Massage and beautification services are very well handled by the staff. But once you get your bill… ouch.
I can’t recommend the Salon due to my bad experience, but If you can afford it, it’s a great Spa to go to.

When I moved from Germantown to Lakeland I knew a great salon could be hard to find after being spoiled in LA.
I was very surprised by the excellent services provided by Paula for hair and Catherine Taylor for waxing. They are both enjoyable, professional and relaxing. The spa is actually quite luxurious for being in a strip center behind Fedex Office and never crazy rushed like Capelli’s in E. Memphis.
Parking is on a huge lot. Services are expansive. A group of eight for massages is not a problem for this salon. They have several locations in the Memphis area.

I’ve been going here for a while now, and I have to say, I love this location and the service I get here. There are many services offered: massages, waxing, microdermabrasion, etc. My hair stylist is the best and does such an awesome job!!!
I’ve been to other, cooler, hipper places and all I got was brassy hair and a higher ticket.
