We hit up brunch on Father’s Day with our giant family. 8 adults, 8 kids under 6(yes, you read that right). It was mayhem! So many people there. We had a reservation — our table was ready for us. Plenty of high chairs, attentive service. We didn’t know that brunch was buffet only. That was a tad of a surpise, but ended up being a blessing. Less time to wait for food for kiddos! We seemed to hit the restaurant right as a big rush was ending. The buffet was pretty bare when we got there. Fortunately, going back up to the buffet was encouraged — so we all got some great variety. I was on duty to stay with our son while my husband went up first — by the time I got up there, pastas and lunch entrees were being filled back up. My only complaint is that it seemed like there was a need for a runner or two to just be assigned to refilling/checking what was empty on the line. A few necessary items(whipped butter, syrup) were empty both times I went through. Not a huge deal, since I was gorging on pasta(YUM! My fav was the ziti with cream sauce and grilled chicken. TODIEFOR). Prime rib, overflowing mimosas(I was so jealous to not be able to have one! Pregnant. booo). I’d go back, for sure. We were treated with such kidness, the noise level of all the kids was fine in the buzz of the restaurant. Thanks!

First time here and everything was great. Service was fast, friendly. Kids menu was a hit with our kids — great cheeseburger and fries, seriously. I had the grilled salmon salad, came with caramelized onion, chèvre, capers… very good, and was a good portion and price. Would definitely order again. My husband had a pasta dish with shrimp that was also delicious. And draft beers were also excellent — tried a dark and a light and were impressed by both. Read some rough reviews, but experienced nothing to support them. Maybe early growing pains when transitioning ownership. We were there on a Saturday night and the parking lot was totally packed but still seated very quickly. Live music playing on the patio and people were actually dancing! But was also easy to sit inside and enjoy a more mellow dining experience, with a view of the patio party. We love to cook, and actually met working In restaurant so can be picky, but this meal was great and we will absolutely be back. Hope some of the many others we saw tonight, that appeared to be regulars having a blast, will leave some positive reviews that better reflect what they have to offer.

I had the hot beef with gravy and mashed potatoes. Potatoes were stiff and crusty, the beef was OK and it came with a small container of gravy. Definitely not enough gravy so I ordered more which I was charged for. I sorry but when I think of hit beef and gravy with mashed potatoes I picture this smothered in gravy!!! Not with a small to go container of gravy in the side. Epic fail for a classic hard to ruin menu item. The service was pretty good considering we had a party of 20+.

Fail! Last couple times I was here were fine, not amazing, but fine. Something doesn’t seem to be going well with the new brand though. Last 11 reviews, all in the past 12 months, total about a 2.10 stars. I have to agree on my most recent visit. There were a number of fails on this visit: Fail 1. Asking to squeeze a group of 3 adults and two elementary aged kids into one of their booths. We tried but didn’t realize, until we sat down, how tight it really was. Mind you there was a banquette available the whole time that we eventually switched into. The booths weren’t easy for me to slide my(size 14) shoes under without hitting the table post. Fail 2. Used to have one of the best pork tenderloin sandwiches in town. No longer on the menu. Fail 3. Ordered a Black and Blue burger adding avocado. Received a BBQ burger. When I eventually got the right burger, they forgot the avocado which I scraped off the wrong order. Fail 4. Price. Discount to make it right on being served the wrong burger was about the same as a regular burger at Shorts(okay Shorts is .49 more than the 29% off for screwing up). Fail 5. The workers decided it was time to chill out in the corner next to us while our family finished eating. I’m all for settling at the end of the night, but shouldn’t the drinking and F-bombs be enjoyed in private away from your guests?!

The Sunday Brunch needs a non-mimosa option that is cheaper, since we don’t drink and the cost is high if you don’t. While I love the brunch options, the chafing dishes do not keep things adequately warm, and drink refills come too slowly. I think the food stayed warm during football season because it was selected immediately. The new Reunion menu is not as good as the old menu. Virtually everything now has jalapeño peppers or some other form of heat. The rotisserie chicken has changed the coating and texture, and it was soggy and barbeque-like, instead of the way it was during football season. The chicken dumpling noodle soup is very tasty. Drink refills are always an issue.

My family had been coming to Mondo’s for over a decade, but this newest incarnation has us unlikely to return. The food was bland, trying to incorporate interesting ingredients with mediocre success and a significant lack of flavor. The prices were high for the low quality. The beer was fine, but overall unimpressed and disappointed.

Redone and not an improvement. We used to be Friday night regulars but the fat lady just sang(it’s over). The menu is significantly changed and fish and chips have disappeared. Choices are reduced with odd replacements. I ordered the cedar plank salmon was just OK(small portion) and paired with tasteless frozen green beans that were served cold. Usually there’s a waiting line and a packed bar. Not tonight. Your dining experiences will be better elsewhere.

In a word… yuck! Had a hamburger, which had no flavor, with ice berg lettuce, pale tomato and high school cafeteria –like French fries. The beers we sampled tasted like water and the Merlot was possibly 2 buck chuck. The booth seats were stained and beaten down. Dirty washrooms. Never returning!

Every time I eat here it’s disappointing. Over priced and generally not good. For a «draft house» I am disappointed in the selection. 30 hop is a better option, and their food is actually good. The out dated décor and disgusting carpet seems to always be covered in food. Hokies aren’t expensive guys. Good luck on this place, the fact they are going to try to revamp again into a brewery is a joke.

We tried the Sunday brunch twice and their normal dinner menu twice. The dinner was pretty bland. The Sunday brunch had a lot of choices but just not good. Some cold food and some pretty bland. Too expensive for the lower quality. Better Sunday brunches with free alcohol. Biggest problem: all tree times the service was awful. They often forgot about us and then rushed us out for the lunch crowd. Not friendly and not helpful.

This was my first time at mondo’s and I’m not for sure if I would return. I was slightly confused as to what type of restaurant it was trying to be: a sports bar, high end or trendy? Regardless of that, the food was mediocre, not memorable at all. Both my fiancée and I had the french dip served with fries and the meat was over cooked and quite a few pieces of meat on my sandwich had fatty grisle. The fries were very average that had been seasoned with sea salt and pepper and the au ju dip was extremely salty. Another issue was the pricing. I typically never complain about how much a meal costs because you are eating out but with the two french dips, 2 sodas and pretzels as an appetizer it was around 38 dollars. The pricing of the food should reflect the quality of the meal and I think mondo’s is over priced. Also the wait staff never cleared the tables around us so there were quite a few flies buzzing around the dining area. They seemed fully staffed so I’m not for sure why there were dirty plates and tables. I would rate mondo’s as two stars but our server was good and efficient.

They have changed the menu yet again. They are putting less emphasis on the fresh pasta; their selection has been drastically reduced. No more cioppino pasta which used to be my favorite. Calamari is good but too greasy. Sweet potato fries are good but also pretty greasy. Pizzas are good but sometimes come out too cheesy. Sandwiches look good but don’t taste as good as they look. Their revised Sunday brunch is a good deal with prime rib and all the brunch favorites.

I have previously been to Mondos and enjoyed it however today was awful! Our server was rude and very inattentive the entire time. There was also a server taking a nap in a booth next to us. Very classy. My strawberry margarita was disgusting! All I could taste was the strawberry purée that was in it. Way to saturated. We got the chicken tender appetizer and it was fairly good. Good thing we didn’t need anything extra while eating because our server never asked us how it was or if we needed anything. It wasn’t busy at all so no excuses for not providing better service. Only reason this gets 2 stars instead of 1 is because my previous experience was a lot better and the chicken tenders were decent. Poor service ruined this experience for me.

Nice place! My Ruben Sandwich-as good as anywhere else… for half the price. Onion rings-don’t bother… cold and over breaded… and half of mine had tough onions I had a hard time even chewing through. My date… she had patty melt and onion rings. She said the patty melt was fine. It took forever for her to get her cocktail… even with three waitresses BSing behind the bar. I LOVE their waitresses outfits. I have NEVER seen shorts that short. or painted on! NICE…LOL

5÷17÷15 dinner. Fun to have 8oz. tastes of local beer. My friends always have the mediteranean chicken pasta. I had the mushroom capellini pasta– ate it all, yummy! Started out on a wobbly table with uncomfortable benches that had backs that were only halfway up your back, moved to a table. Much better.

If you’re going to charge extra for a requested condiment, it is common courtesy to tell a customer that it is not complimentary. It is inconsiderate to say nothing and give a guest the impression that it is being offered gratis only to put it on the receipt when you can’t refuse it. Our server seemed to be in a hurry, rushing our party through the ordering process as well as during the dining experience. From a menu standpoint there was a meager selection of alternative beverages – only one cider selection. The French dip was poorly constructed and fell apart. Au jus had a thick consistency to it. Fries were the thin kind, lightly seasoned and the only palatable part of the experience. Despite many TVs only two things were playing – a crappy NBA playoff game and a college baseball game on ESPN, despite this being a Sunday with a multitude of MLB games and a NASCAR event. No consideration given to what was on, it was as if the bartender or whomever was in charge knows that«ESPN has sports» without bothering to explore any further options. Far different from the last time I visited, though that was five years ago so there may have been turnover in management. As I only get to the Iowa City area two or three times per year it’s highly unlikely I’d make a return visit with the plethora of good options available.

If you want a great craft beer and sports watching venue, this is one of the best options in Coralville(and maybe Iowa City, if you’re searching for that specific combination). The beer list has many of the same hard-to-find options as places like Sanctuary and 30Hop, but the long bar is perfectly set up with multiple screens to watch sports. I watched the Nationals beat the Giants in the MLB playoffs last year, in, sadly, the only game that the Nats won. The Jolly Pumpkin draft only made it that much sweeter(though technically it was a sour). The food is reasonable – good, but not mind blowing. It is good bar food that serves its purpose well(i.e., pairing with beer and sports), and exceeded my expectations. Aside from the huge bar seating, there is also a side room with games and plenty of seating for non-sports-related consumption. Lots of kitsch on the walls. All in all, a hidden gem in the area.

First time to Mondos. The Sunday brunch was great. Decent discount for kiddos. They have a wide variety and keep it stocked. That’s all you need. Staff was great and they seemed very cool with large groups. I want to go back and have a beer and a meal sometime soon.

The regular menu is pretty decent, pepper steak is just awesome, and the steak Gorgonzola is probably the greatest thing conceived by man lol. However, the service is often slow, and then there’s the Sunday brunch. The Sunday brunch is, how do I put this delicately… Awful. It’s strewn about on top of the pool tables, and has always been super messy. Each time we have tried it, hoping that it was just an off day the last time, we left disappointed. I would have given them 2 stars because of the service, but the quality of the food is so good(except the brunch).

In town for a few days on business. Found this place on Unilocal and decided to try it. Disappointing. Girl behind the bar was new and knew absolutely nothing about any of the beers. I asked for a sample of one and she came back and said the keg was out so would I want try something else? They have a bunch of drafts but they need people with knowledge of what they have behind the bar. This a management problem — not this girl’s behind the bar.

This place has really good drinks! I had the margherita pizza which was amazing! I also tried their spicy mango hops and salted nut martini. Both were to die for! The spicy mango hops definitely will leave a lingering spiciness so if you can’t take the heat, don’t order it. It comes in a tall glass. The pizza is also good for two if you’re not super hungry. I definitely could only finish half by myself because I don’t eat a lot. The atmosphere is really nice too. They have plenty of parking in their parking lot and they are great for private events! There is a back room perfect for that! The noise level can get pretty high so if you’re looking for a nice quiet place to go, this probably won’t fit your needs. I don’t know when I would ever end up here again but if I do, I would definitely come back for their food and drinks!

Very disappointing! On a good note, Mondo’s does sport an impressive selection of microbrew drafts. On a bad note, the service is horrendous! There is no organization behind the bar. You would think with two bartenders and only six people sitting at the bar, you would get good service(granted, the bartenders were also making drinks for patrons that were sitting at tables), but you would be wrong. The bartender who waited on me,(the one time I was able to get a drink) was more interested in who I was and where I was from than simply pouring my selected draft. My wife ordered a flight of four short beers off the menu that we were given, two of the beers were no longer available. Why were they listed on the menu if they were no longer available. .. who knows. When I tried to order a second beer, the bartender who was not waiting on me, interjected himself into the situation and insisted that I try a different selection. I did not want a different selection, I wanted the beer I ordered. A gentlemen who appeared to be the manager,(I say appeared since he did not seem to be doing anything but getting in the way) seemed content to simply continue to try samples of the various drafts. In the end, I never did get the beer I asked for. I paid the check and left.

An oldie, but a goodie. Outside of the hustle and bustle of iowa city, but close to the coralridge mall. Great for large parties and kids. Most notably known for their beer selection, pizzas and oatmeal pie with cinnamon ice cream. I also recommend their calamari(sone of the best I’ve ever had), chicken parm, and roasted chicken. Wish they had a better wine list!

Anything by Mondanaro is great in IC but this place is really tasty. However the one dish that stands out above the rest to me is their spinach and cheese ravioli with shrimp — substitute Alfredo for marinara!
