From the city website… Sandy Ridge Sanctuary is a 40 acre plot of land purchased by the City of Coral Springs in 1994 with funds from an environmental bond issue and a grant from Florida Communities Trust. The site was opened in 1999 after all non-native plants were removed and park improvements were added. Among the many native plants are over 1,000 South Florida Slash Pines. Sandy Ridge is also home to about 20 Gopher Tortoises. The Gopher Tortoise is listed as a species of special concern in Florida. Sandy Ridge is used for educational purposes as an outdoor learning center. It is open to the general public every first and third Saturday of the month from 9:00 — 11:00 am. For more information please call(954) 345 — 2112. My review… The public are of this park is an underused and fantastic. Like all City of Coral Springs’ parks, it is immaculate and well taken care of. It is set away from the neighborhood street and completely shielded by trees. It has a really nice little playground with wood chips on the ground and a few benches for the adults to sit on. The clean bathrooms are right next to the playground. There is a lovely walking trail which is about 4⁄10 of a mile one way and it winds through beautiful native trees. There are a few picnic tables throughout the park covered by small pavilions. I really love the fact that the playground, picnic tables, and walking trail are completely shielded from any nearby buildings or streets by trees. The parking lot has about 15 spaces. I highly recommend that you visit the private area of the park as listed above on the first and third Sunday of the month. This area is fenced in and is an absolutely beautiful oasis and a wonderful respite from the city.
