Lovely clean rooms. Patti made us feel right at home for our three day stay. Breakfasts were delicious and lively. Would recommend without hesitation.

i am normally a big chain hotel person, but there are certain locales that call for a local establishment with local knowledge. my father and i stayed at the rose and thistle for a baseball hall of fame VIP weekend package, and patti and steve exceeded every one of our expectations(and some we didn’t know we had!) from the moment i called to make the reservation until we orchestrated an early morning check out patti was full of good ideas, simple transactions and most of all, good advice. being able to walk across the street to bocca was a win, and patti’s other dining suggestions were spot-on. but it’s all of the little details that matter: they have a resident dog, but there’s an electric fence to keep morgan(rather cute dog) downstairs. i have dog allergies but wasn’t bothered a bit. the rooms are fresh, clean, and well appointed. we stayed in sarah’s room(the gabled third floor) which could have easily slept 5 or 6, and we were not wanting for towels, space, or places to sit. being able to spread out actually helped uncork some of the writer’s block i’ve had the last few weeks(i’m tempted to come back for a week and finish a book manuscript…) the wifi not only works, but is fast. i uploaded pictures from our HoF visit in minutes, not hours(glaring at certain large-chain hotels where this is not possible). the cable works and has a nice selection of channels(we were able to watch the nj devils, which was probably not the best thing to do on a full stomach that night…) if you’re thinking of visiting the hall of fame, and want a real behind the scenes look at artifacts, paper ephemera, and an after-hours tour, sign up for the VIP weekend, which is only available through certain in-town B&Bs. rose & thistle combined with the package was a solid extra base hit.

We had a very enjoyable 2 night stay last weekend — the room was clean and well appointed, the breakfasts were phenomenal and the hosts, Patti and Steve, made us feel right at home. Parking is only a minor issue, and they are increasing the size of the lot as I write. Another plus is having a top quality restaurant within walking distance — across the street. Get ready for a great night’s sleep in the peace and quiet! We will undoubtedly return.
