Books are my dad’s thing. He’s a librarian and thrust his love of reading upon me. Every time we see a bookstore, he has to stop in and check it out and I’m not far behind him. Monie Willis Books is a gem. Nestled in the cute town of Cooperstown down the street from the Baseball Hall of Fame, it is literally teeming with books. One of their largest collections, of course, is their baseball literature. Another thing my dad and I share is a passion for America’s pastime, so this was definitely our kind of place. I nearly bought every Red Sox book on the shelf, but quickly realized my small suitcase wouldn’t be able to carry them all, so I limited myself to two. The books were brand new and I didn’t pay more than $ 5 for each of them. My dad also found several collectables for his collection(one was signed) as well. If we didn’t have plans to tour the Hall of Fame, we probably could have spent all day here. If you are looking for something specific and can’t find it, ask the owner. The books on display aren’t even half of what he has in storage. They also have baseball cards(again, big surprise) and other memorabilia for purchase as well. If you love to read and love baseball, you definitely need to stop in here. You won’t regret it.

I have been going to Monie Willis Books since my family moved to Cooperstown over 10 years ago. Almost every trip I make to Cooperstown involves a stop here. It’s a wonderful source for used books, and for any bibliophile, who loves looking through stacks, it’s almost a paradise. There are shelves to the ceiling, but there are always stacks on the floor in front of the shelves, too. I have found great books for myself and friends on just about any topic you can think of. I found my husband three fantastic books on photography this weekend, and spent a whopping $ 17.50. Absolutely worth the stop.
