Good for the limited selection here in Cool, nothing so special that I would drive out of my way to get to. Stick to the main dishes, sampler/appetizers(BoBo Special) not very good.

For Cool, CA I think this is a pretty good Chinese restaurant. I can understand why the current cumulative Unilocal rating is 4 stars. Unfortunately for this place, I am from Los Angeles and there are so many good authentic Chinese places down there that it is hard to fairly compare. There is nothing wrong with this place; it was good, but not very good or great. Maybe it deserves 3 and a half stars. The service was very friendly. They treat kids well with cool little plastic cups with straws and color coded plastic plates. They have great lazy Susan’s on the table. Decent fried rice, chow mein, broccoli beef, orange chicken, and walnut glazed prawns. It was all pretty good. One of my kids complained that the Orange chicken was too sweet. I kind of agree. I would definitely go back if I wanted Chinese food in this area. Mostly because there isn’t much else to choose from in these parts. And I know I can get decent food here.

Horrendous service and food isn’t much better. My friend and I have came her twice in the past year. First time, we pulled out the chair to sit down and my friend falls to the ground! The chair only had 3 legs!!! We got a mild apology, if that. Well, we decided to try it out again. We had our three year old sons sitting in high chairs, one of which was pretty wobbly. We ended up placing our order and 15 mins later the older women(possible owner?) said that she was going to have to charge us even more money than what we were originally told. Her employee and waitress said one price and it took 15 minutes for someone else to come out over a 3 dollar discrepancy?!! Rude. However, as we were finishing up one of the boys tried to get out of the high chair as we were pretty much done. The who high chair broke into literally 15 pieces!!! We knew it was wobbly but really?!! He fell backward as the whole high chair crumbled! The older women owner came out and starts blaming us for the children«moving around» in the seats! She said it was because our kids had moved in their seats that we broke it. So rude! Know one asked if the child was ok! Our kids are well-behaved and unless we had a screw driver a whole high chair wouldn’t of broke into pieces. This place hasn’t been updated in 20 years at least. Clearly it needs new management and a renovation with working chairs!!!

Very nice people, food is fine. Nothing wrong with this restaurant, but it’s not worth a detour from the freeway. It’s the best Chinese food in the small town of Cool, CA. Not a destination dining experience. Food was done well, service was very nice.

We love this place. Great food and service! One of mother in laws favorites, so we took her today for her birthday dinner!

Did not finish either appetizer. The beef satay was chewy. The house wonton soup seemed thin on veggies. The wontons were ok. We have had mixed results here.

When we first walked in –we almost walked out without even trying out the food. The restaurant did not appear clean at all. And it was still early in the day! Besides the badly stained carpet littered with food crumbs on the floor. The 2 fish tanks in the place were particularly dirty and grimy looking. The fish in the tanks actually looked distorted for all the greasy grime on the glass. What made us stay was the wonderful greeting that we got from the waitress. Who sat us immediately. Plus, there was a number of us in a group. The menu is pretty extensive and the prices are VERY reasonable. Surprisingly, the food was much better than I expected. The vegetables all seemed fresh, which isn’t always the case when eating on a Sunday. The waitress was friendly and very attentive the whole time we were there, too. I can’t say my dish was the best Chinese food I have ever had, but it definitely wasn’t the worse either.

My boyfriend took me to the Happy Palace for dinner and we enjoyed both the service and food. It’s a small, but nice restaurant. Prices are reasonable.

My family has been visiting Happy Palace for many years, now. The atmosphere is relaxed, friendly, and comfortable, and I enjoy that Happy Palace offers outdoor seating for those beautiful warm evenings. The service is always great and the staff will prepare a tasty dish with alterations from those listed on the menu. This is great for our family that has varied eating needs. For such a small town, this is a nice change from the American Food faire offered at all other places.

This place is delicious! they have the typical americanized style as well as the authentic chinese dishes. They are super friendly and their service is fast. For lunch and dinner they have huge yummy combo plates that are like two meals for the price of one, so you’re going to need a box. My only complaint about this place is I always crave it when its closed(mondays), but perhaps that’s more my problem then theirs :).

Happy Palace has never left me disappointed or wanting more! They have REALLY great food, which is served fast and hot. HUGE portions for not a lot of money. The staff there has always been exceptionally friendly and make great suggestions if you’re seeking a more authentic Chinese meal. I visit and stuff myself often!

Now, keep in mind that the«5 Star Rating» is based on this restaurant being out in the middle of nowheres-ville, but you can’t beat the name of the city that it’s in… COOL, California! Within a 25-Mile Radius, maybe even more till I find a better place, THEBESTCHINESEFOOD in the area! They got new owners in July 2008, and the food got noticeably better. Specifically it tastes a LOT fresher and a LOT less«Americanized Chinese» then the previous owners. The funniest thing about the«new owners», they actually can’t cook to their«full potential» in their area because of all the«old locals» that can’t stand/handle change… even if it’s better! My wife is a true Chinese girl, who can actually order up «authentic-style» food when we go there and they create dishes that easily compare to some of our favorite Chinese restaurants in the Bay Area where both of us spent several years living down in that mayhem. She wouldn’t actually eat there previously and took me and several of my other«converted» friends to convince her to try out the new owners of this place. She was immediately impressed by the unbelievably friendly and nice people that worked there… and even more impressed when she tasted the«new» Happy Palace. She is SO happy to have a local Chinese restaurant to be able to eat at now! So, in short, they keep serving the«american-style» chinese food(Sorry…translated to overly sauced, sweet & bland) just to keep the old-whiney locals happy… BUT, check the Specials board hidden on one of the walls for their true cooking talents! If you know some Chinese, or have some authentic dishes that you really like… these guys will pull it off for you in the most delicious style! I will agree with«Martin S.» on the Parking though… even though it isn’t their fault… for some unknown reason, Locals like to leave their cars parked in their parking lot all the time… Where in the hell do these people go after leaving their cars in all the parking spaces? We’re talking about like 20 parking spaces by the way… Service is really friendly though… they are just embarrassed by their English-Speaking skills… which are waaaay better than our Chinese-speaking skills! My experience has shown me… your perception of how service is, is usually a reflection of how you are as a guest… most of the time that is… Have you actually read all of this??? Then you could’ve been at this place by now enjoying their food!

Good chinese food, if you’re out in Cool area. My only real problem with this place is that it tastes like Costco; which tastes OK to me usually, but not what I am expecting from a restaurant. Service is usually good; very patient, but not quite friendly enough to get extra stars. Parking is poor.
