Stopped on our way home from the snow. My kids were in heaven. Best Mongolian BBQ ever! Very reasonable and soft serve ice cream!

I wanted to like this place. And for the price it is OK. Friendly service — fast and cheap. I liked the old school charm of the décor — but as others say it is a little tired. The quality of the food is OK. Don’t think I will be going back.

Hi went here for the first & last time. Hardly any selection for both the protein or vegetables. The soup was barely warm. The fried Wonton was cold & the sweet & sour sauce was so thin & watered down u could see thru it. The first bowl of rice was supposedly fried, never saw fried rice that looked like that, no flavor & totally cold. My next dish was steamed white rice & it was hot. My third dish of rice was barely warm. The restaurant is dirty looking. The vent ceilings are filthy. Service is poor, & they don’t seem to care. Not sure how this place got so many star’s. I would give it zero. Cost $ 11.24 with tax, & the best item on the menu is the steamed rice. Awfully expensive for steamed rice. Apparently u have to give a star, but not worth one.

We LOVE sums. Our mongo. I’ve been going here since I was a little kid! It is ridiculously good! When I was in high school, during summer break I would go every weekend! I’m so in loveeee with it! I wish I lived closer. It’s cheap and delicious!!!

This place is always great for a full belly on the cheap. I’ve never felt sick after stuffing my face here if I drink enough water, and I can fill the gaps with soft-serve. Only two issues: I don’t like the separate tipping of the wait staff and cooks, it confuses me, and I wish pineapple and lamb were available for lunch!

*vegetarian review* I went twice through the line at dinner and requested the chefs to clean the Mongolian wok each time before cooking my food. I’m quite sensitive about meat juices in my food, and was satisfied that I didn’t feel like my bowl of food tasted like meat. For vegetarians: noodles, cabbage, broccoli, mushrooms, shredded carrots, spinach, zucchini, water chestnuts. No vegetarian protein, such as tofu. I loaded up on broccoli, mushrooms, spinach, and zucchini, and thought it was sufficient for vegetable-lovers!

Absolutely wonderful! You can tell that the ingredients are fresh, and the wait staff are so kind and courteous! The sauce recommendations are to die for. We are from Texas and happened to stop in on a whim. So glad we did! Please, do yourself a favor and stop in — you won’t be disappointed! For people who are afraid of contamination, they accommodate. And, the meat is freeze dried, so it isn’t dripping all over the rest of your food. The grill is so hot that it would kill anything you might be afraid of. Love it here — hope to return! And you DEFINITELY can’t beat the price!

Whether you are here for lunch or dinner, you are getting a great deal. Lunch is busy, but they are able to move the line along at a good rate, never had a problem with service. The all you can eat dinner option should be taken as a personal challenge. I’m confident to say that it’s going to be hard to ever find a place that will top Sums.

Nice place, long lines put moves quickly for to go orders. Pts. for choice of meats(use your hands to smash), also sauces. For this first visit, it was a good deal and an eagerly greeted meal. Nice way to change from the usual Auburn run of InO.

Always good. You get soup, rice, and wantons at the beginning of your meal. Then you get to fill up your bowl and watch the guys fry it upon

I’ve been going to Sum’s since my days at Placer High. Ahhh the open campus for lunch! The prices have gone up a bit in the last fifteen years, but hey. Inflation. I used to be extremely skilled at packing the bowl with as much yummy goodness of Mongolian. Not as good anymore, but the food is still amazing. Best Mongolian place I’ve been to.

I’ve been wanting to try Sum’s for SO long, because I love Mongolian BBQ and, well, Sum is my nickname.(I’m simple like that. Haha.) We got there right when it opened for dinner, and we were seated and served right away. It’s a small-ish restaurant with booth seating; the interior may not be sparkling and new, but it’s clean and personally I like the look of the place.(Hey my favorite Mongolian BBQ place is a LOT dirtier and dive-ier than Sum’s, doesn’t bother me!) We got soup, rice, and sweet & sour wontons to start before hitting the BBQ line. They have all the usual ingredients and the line was very clean, without food bits strewn everywhere. My bowl was cooked and served right away and the food tasted SO good. We had been hiking around Auburn before arriving and it really hit the spot. Dinner comes with the appetizers, bottomless BBQ bowls, and soft serve ice cream– I was way too stuffed for dessert but B enjoyed some ice cream before we left. Venue: casual, clean and cozy. Staff: Friendly and attentive(especially with our water and drinks, a plus in my book) Food: OMNOMNOM Price: All the dinner you can handle for about $ 10 a person Verdict: Save me a seat, Sum’s, because Sum will be back!

food tastes good going down, but didn’t feel so good afterwards. although, at the one in rocklin, I enjoyed their food a lot. at auburn, my food was undercooked and made me sick to my stomach. don’t recommend to anyone

This place is the place to go if you’re really hungry! I’ve been going there since high school. Their noodles are the thickest I’ve ever seen at any other Mongolian BBQ place. Awesome selection of sauces, meats, and veggies. Their wontons and egg flour soup are delicious too. Take out is only $ 6, and a full sit down meal is always under $ 30. Their service is really good, and they box your food for you. There are a lot of complaints on this site about the high schoolers during lunch hours, but every restaurant in downtown auburn at lunch during the week is flooded with kids. I’d say all you can eat Mongolian from Sum’s is definitely worth putting up with the high schoolers.

This place is awesome. Service is 10 stars, the food is a solid 4 stars. We found this place on Unilocal on our way home from Tahoe. The food was filling and I love the customization. Is the décor dated? Yes. Is it a little dive-y? Totally. But the people who run it are fantastic and engaging(minus the two guys at the grill) and if you like veggies, Asian noodles and meat(or any combo of those things) then give this place a shot. We will DEFINITELY be back on our next trip. Thanks!

This place is old… It’s small, the both I sat in, the springs were broken down. The dishes are old, again it’s just a really old place!.The food was ok. Most Mongolian BBQ places that I have gone to, usually have chicken as an option, this place did not. The wait staff was attentive and friendly. They actually box your food that you take home. Unlike some places were they just drop the boxes off. that’s worth something.(I gave a nice tip for that). They had a self serve ice cream machine, vanilla only, I’m good with that. the ice cream it self was really good! I’ll go back for the ice cream(**)

I don’t like Mongolian barbeque. I do like Sum’s. Your experience will begin with very consistently good and friendly service. By the time you’re back to your table, you’ll almost always have egg flower soup, sweet and sour wonton skins, fried or steamed rice, and your drinks. We always come here for dinner, but one bowl for lunch is very filling, and I am legendary amongst my acquaintances for how much I consume. I personally do a combination of garlic, three scoops of Kung Pao sauce, jalapenos, lamb, beef, turkey, celery(for an aromatic), onions, Sriracha, and a light mix of the rest of the other sauce options. Sum’s is like any other Mongolian place, in that you have to find your own particular flavor profile. Their default suggestions for sauces are very good, but if you come in for dinner, experiment with small bowls and combinations of flavors. Even though it is just noodles, veggies and meat, the flavor profile can vary massively depending on if you go spicy, sweet, salty or savory. After you finish with your noodles, enjoy soft-serve vanilla ice cream. Don’t forget to try the sugar! If I have one complaint, it’s this: The fried rice, which is fluffy and delicious for vegetable fried rice, is almost always out. We routinely end up getting the steamed rice, which is actually really good anyways.

Best Mongolian hands down. Been to many others and nothing ever comes close to Sum’s. Heck I wouldn’t hesitate to say its the best in California! The food is always fresh and delicious, large noodles that cant be found anywhere else and lets not forget the soft serve that makes for a perfect desert. The staff very friendly and treat us like family. The only negative thing I would say about them is that that aren’t open on Sundays and we unfortunately have to venture out to other Mongolians which is always a mistake, but hey everyone needs a day off.

This is definitely my favorite mongolian place! I made the mistake of trying a place closer to home and their food just tasted bland! I feel like the noodles really take on the flavor of the sauces and I love the little chip things they give you before your meal. The wait staff is really friendly and attentive, but the cooks look sad and depressed :( All in all, good food and I’m definitely keeping my mongolian business here!
