Steak ‘n Shake

If I were basing my review on just the last time I ate here, I would’ve rated it 4 stars. But combining the time before last, along with some other visits, I’m giving it an overall 3 stars. On our last visit, we had burgers-​great, fries-​good only if hot, which ours were, and shakes. Milkshakes are one of the things Steak ‘n Shake excels at, so you really can’t go wrong there. They have a delicious, hand dipped quality and great flavor and consistency. The time before this we had the Chili Mac Supreme. It was very spicy-​both of us who had it thought so, and my friend ordered extra beef and didn’t have any more on hers than I did. Fortunately, the waitress was kind enough to bring her some more chili beef, unfortunately it was also very spicy. It’s also worth noting that my friend used to think S’n S chili was ‘the best in town’ but this makes a couple of times she was not too fond of it, over spiciness being part of the reason. Have also had breakfast here that was better than expected, and I liked the pancakes better than IHOPS. Overall, you get a great value for your money here. The service is usually ok, but spotty at times.

Pick your poison. Like any fast food joint, you can carb up, calorie up, or fried-​overload. The lunches at $ 4.00 are a fantastic bargain for sandwich, fries, and a drink. Flavor of the «special» Cajun Spice Burger was really great; only minor downside was that the roll was a bit greasy (toasted on the grill) and most of the cajun seasoning seemed to be on the bun. Fries are slim-​shoestrings — ok. Hot dog was nicely prepared Chicago style… all good. Nice selection of shakes. All-​in-​all I will probably return to a Steak & Shake on another trip.

Very nice, very quick service.
We ordered the shooters and a chili cheese dog and fries for both.
I had a salted caramel pretzel shake.
Portions were standard and filling. The taste was quite good.

I was thoroughly disgusted with the attitude of the manager name James as he spoke to the employees of this establishment. He was rude and disrespectful to the ladies. I will not be returning to this Steak and Shake! Steak and Shake has long been one of my favorite places to eat. I love the atmosphere and the food. But no more!

Things to happen to me at this location…
1) I’ve been seated on more then one visit and we left after ten minutes when nobody even came to get our drink order.
2) I’ve gotten my entire meal, and it still took another ten minutes for my friend to get his milkshake
3) Waitress went on break halfway threw our meal, took 15 minutes before somebody checked on us
4) We had such poor service one day, mixed up orders, 45 minute wait for food, that a manager was gonna come speak to us, instead he just gave us a dirty look from across the restaurant, finally our waitress just told us to leave with out paying.
Yeah. The food isn’t bad, but stick to the drive threw…

This is an ok restaurant. Not my favorite. Haven’t eaten there in awhile. Milkshakes are ok. Not horrible for a fast food restaurant. Some interesting burgers. Patty melt is my favorite option at this restaurant.

I’d never been to a Steak’n Shake before, and I wasn’t disappointed.

First and only time we’ll ever visit this location. Overall our experience started out well. Our server brought our drinks out right away, as well as my husband’s shake. It was lunch time and the place was about half full, not crazy busy. We talked for a while and finally realized it had been about 20 minutes and still no food. Our waitress never came around to update us on the lengthy wait. We looked around and realized another couple — who had arrived after we did — already had their food. We finally flagged down our waitress and asked about our order. She said she would go check and after another 5 minutes she came back and said it would be ready shortly. Finally the manager brought out our order and half-​heartedly apologized for the delay. My husband’s order was wrong and our waitress hadn’t brought silverware or napkins. We got the waitress’s attention again. My husband sent his order back and asked for it to go since my lunch break was almost up. We also asked the waitress for silverware — which she never brought and we had to wave down another waitress to get it. We overhead another customer complain that his order was wrong. Just as we were about to leave so that I could get back to work on time, another waitress (not ours) brought my husband’s food. As we were checking out at the register the manager again half-​heartedly apologized for the delay in getting our food. No offer of restitution was made at all. Our waitress was terrible, the manager was terrible. A couple of the other waitresses did their part and tried to help.
So that I could get back to work on time we rushed out the door. After being back at work a few minutes I got a call from my husband saying his order was still wrong! He took it back and the manager offered to remake it again. Seriously? My husband said he wanted his money back and finally the manager ended up refunding the whole meal.
Bad experience, some of the worst customer service I’ve ever experienced. Will not be back.

Mmm Mmmm! A great Steak’n Shake :) And I’ll tell you why, my friends! The service (usually the servers, not the hosts, sorry guys) is great. The first time I went in the server heard it was my birthday and immediately started treating me like some long-​lost daughter who had just come back. She sang me a personal Happy Birthday, brought out a dessert without any asking, and I just adore being called «sweetie» or «honey». And of course, the food was great. The last time I went in was with my roommate, the server was very laid-​back — in a good way. Talked to us like friends and even recommended me a sandwich that wasn’t on the menu but could be made that was reeeally tasty. And come on… how can you go wrong with those cute little fries? My goodness.

I usually use the drive-​thru and based on it, this particular Steak and Shake is above average. Their food is always very good. I visited on in Knoxville and it was nothing like this location. I actually called their customer service number and told them about the great the service and food at the Cookeville location after my Knoxville experience. Cheesy Cheddar Burger… Try it and thank me later :).

This one is about what I expect from Steak n Shake. The food is good, but the service is lacking. Our waiter was completely inattentive and brought me fries I specifically said I didn’t want.
Still, the food is what you should expect from any Steak n Shake, so it’s good for a pit stop if you’re traveling.

My family is a huge fan of S&S. I am not. But I will eat there with them. They love the Chili, and the Patty Melts. I hate the little stringy fries. I will eat the steakburger. I don’t think its anything special, tastes like a hamburger to me…
Its not a usual stop for me, but for the family, sure, why not? :)
