The owner contacted me after my review and offered an apology. Based on that i will update to 3 stars. I will try them again.

Damn where do I start! OK, so not as good as Tortilleria El Molino or Mercado del Sol, but rightfully so, this place has got some pretty solid Mexican food. Located down busy Clayton Rd, you’ll easily recognize this place by it being an old school Taco Bell restaurant. Another big highlight is the large salsa bar with a variety of salsas and grilled onions. They offer the thick tortilla chips too, not the light ones. Here’s what I’ve ordered: ~ Los Gallos Shrimp Burrito($ 9.25): Good stuff! I get mine without beans, as that just ruins the fun of biting into it. Compared to a competitor close by, Taqueria Las Palmas, I’d say their shrimp burrito is slightly better. ~ Super Carnitas Burrito($ 6.95): The carnitas is flavorful and cooked right with some fatty pieces. And I forgot to mention how I love that they make their Mexican rice fluffy. So, you can’t go wrong ordering this burrito. Again, no beans for me! Beans just ruins that SoCal feeling. ~ Super Taco with Carne Asada($ 3.75): Old school style on a flat round tostada chip. The asada was ok, and it was pretty big for what I expected. Lots of shredded lettuce on top and a tomato slice. Really worth it in my opinion. ~ Torta Mexicana($ 6.55): Blah, big, but messy. ~ Chicken Fajitas Plate($ 10.45): Loved it… ~ Chicken Flautas($ 7.55): Four crispy corn tortillas rolled up and deep fried. Topped with a lot guacamole, lettuce, and sour cream. I use to order these… ~ Chorizo Burritos. One of the best! Ugh, why am I still writing… This was my draft before it closed, booo… So sad…

I moved up to Northern California from LA three years ago. It’s important to me always have a good local Mexican restaurant that is authentic, tasty and reasonably priced. I hit the jackpot with these guys and they are right around the corner from me. If your hungry for some good Mexican food, give these guys a shot. And their salsa bar is the best around!

I’ve come here before and their burritos were pretty good. I got another burrito from here and it was rancid. It tasted like the oil they cooked their food in had gone bad. I ordered no guacamole and my burrito was loaded with guacamole and was way too saucey. The burrito also had refried beans rather than whole beans. You can honestly get a better burrito than what a had here from El Pollo. The chips however were pretty good and I believe they make them fresh there.

I’ve been coming here for years. Always a favorite of mine and they never disappoint. 99%of the time I get the super nachos my wife kills the super burrito(she says they must put crack in the burritos because she is addicted). Know what you want cause not much English is spoken and as you eat you can catch up on your Telemundo. Real tortilla chips and a salsa bar.

TAQUERIALOSARCOS is the new owner of this location. It was originally a Taco Bell. The salsa bar is top notch — habanero salsa to guacamole salsa to grilled jalapenos to pickled slaw. Got a horchata(rice sugar) and a sandia(watermelon) to go with my veggie nachos and tacos. Reasonable prices and outdoor patio seating.

Great food and prices. I’ve gone here multiple times for just carnitas and rice to go for a quick dinner. Their carnitas are so flavorful and not fatty at all. I’ve also got their taco salad bowl with carne asada and it’s been good every time!

I like this place a lot. They are usually pretty quick. Prices aren’t to bad. I go here at least once a week. Some of the workers are definitely better than others. Compared to most of the other Mexican places near here they are definitely the best.

WARNING! This place can never get orders right. Never! I normally call in and pickup my order. I order the Super Burrito and always ask them to make sure to have guacamole on there. I sometimes ask if the Super Burrito comes with guacamole, just to confirm. I get there and pickup and before I leave, I ask if guacamole is on my burrito. They assure me, I get home and sure enough, no guacamole. Never fails, they screw up orders like no tomorrow. Say no sour cream and they add it. I just don’t understand that place. It’s too bad that place is good and I’ve been going there for years, but tonight. I just had it with them. No more. I’m never going back. Time to find another place.

Save your money and the hassle, just not worth it! The customer service was definitely lacking, and it’s pretty sad because they have a nice outdoor dining area. I definitely wouldn’t recommend this place to anybody!!!

I like their food and friendly service for the most part. Takes a long time to get your food though so I try to call ahead now when I go. Cool that you can have dogs on the patio– although it’s a little loud right on Clayton road.

This is first visit here even though I’ve driven by here enough times. Housed in the shell of an old Taco Bell but this food is the authentic deal. I went basic with the taco plate that I had the pleasure of ordering from a friendly young lady. It’s simple fare at a good price and offered a good salsa bar that included my favorite sliced radishes. The taco, rice and beans was tasty and served hot. I’ll definitely be back, next time to try the Posole. Gracias.

Best Mexican food in town. This is where you go when you want authentic food not Americanized Mexican food. The horchata is my favorite!

If you go in the winter, bring your thermals! This place was freezing. It’s hard to eat when you need to sit on your hands. I had high hopes for Los Gallos after attending several parties that they catered. But the express just didn’t measure up. Maybe it was the express itself, and next time we should try the non-express. Hmmmm. Anyway, it didn’t start well. The order taker was clueless. She was easily confused. Yours truly ordered a veggie burrito, but I asked that some veggies be included. What? Change it? I though she understood that I wanted grilled onions and peppers added. What did i get? Just onions. It was so-so. Not the best veggie burrito ever. Then another in our party ordered the other veggie burrito choice(the C.I. veggie I believe). The poor girl didn’t know what it was. Oh god. A disaster waiting to happen. The foodie teen ordered a shrimp burrito which he was thrilled abhout. There were lots of shrimp inside, and it looked great. My better half got the Señor Burrito and loved the carnitas and seasoning. The chips were a great plus, and the salsa/other accoutrements bar was awesome. So many salsas and peppers, etc that I wanted to try them all. Everything looked house made and very authentic. Next time we’ll go to the regular Los Gallos to give them a second chance. A little heat may help upgrade the score as well.

Not as great as I expected. Not that I was expecting anything special, but just expected better. It was the weekend and my hun and I were craving some Mexican food. I had noticed this place a while back when driving down Clayton, and figured it was worth giving a shot. Small, and authentic to its nature. This place appears to be the real deal when it comes to Mexican ambiance and food. They have a great selection of dishes to choose from. They also have presented on the wall, an array of pictures representing their different dishes, perhaps to assist you with your decision making process. I know it certainly helped me. Prices seem pretty reasonable. My hun got a cheese enchilada special that comes with rice and beans. I got one chicken taco salad without beans, cheese, and sour cream. I also got one Chili Relleno ala carte. We took the food to go. Total was $ 16.00 My chicken taco salad was ok. The guacamole was delish, but the flavoring of the chicken was mediocre at best. And, you can certainly tell it was of a lower quality chicken. Not that I was expecting organic or anything, but didn’t expect to be able to detect its poor quality. It also comes with rice that I was not aware of, and did not eat. I had a few bites of the taco shell that was ok. My chili relleno was ok too. I appreciated how the breading wasn’t too thick, and it was decent in taste, though again nothing exceptional. I also appreciated the food condiments bar, equipped with all the additional, additions to add to your dishes: such as salsa, salsa verde, onions and ect. However, a good majority of the items looked days, if not reaching weeks old. Definitely lead me astray from getting anything. My guy also thought his enchilada was tasty, however EXTREMELY small in size. The service was very friendly and upbeat which was a plus. Overall, food was ok. Service was great. Prices were right. And even though the food was just so-so, I would perhaps like to come back and try them for a taco Tuesday.

Taqueria Los gallos, you used to be so good. Why have you changed? I used to get amazing burritos full of meat, rice and beans that were a terrific value. Is there a shortage of frijoles in this country? Is rice an expensive commodity these days? My burritos of late have had sparse amounts of rice and beans and seemed to have shrank by about 50%. I have been frequenting you less and less over the last 18 months but I decided tonight I would give you anther shot. My usual is a regular burrito with carnitas but I though for an extra $ 1 I will get the super and I was sure that it would be loaded with the inexpensive carbs that you expect in a burrito. My frustration reached a fever pitch when I unwrapped the Taco Bell sized burrito and took a bite of tortilla and sour cream. There was a sampling of meat but when I probed for some rice and beans it was as baron as a desert of water. I crushed the burrito in my hand and tossed it in the garbage. Men, if you like good sized, filling burritos and a good value, do not go here.

I had my umpteenth Los Gallos meal last night at the Clayton Road location. And I absolutely second the notion that Los Gallos offers great value for your money! I got the bistek ranchero(steak ranchero) which came well-marinated and sauteed with onions and tomatoes and a side of refried beans, rice and tortillas. Thinking that I wouldn’t be satiated with that meal after not having eaten all day, I decided to order the caldo de pollo(chicken soup) which came with a very well-seasoned broth. They clearly must have been letting that chicken stock settle for the last day or two because it was nicely flavored. Others in my party ordered the veggie burrito, parrillada(large thin steak flank grilled) with all the sides included, and the garlic shrimp(camarones) plate. Nothing but raving reviews from each item. And being that this is an order-at-the-counter establishment, not a whole lot of coin is needed. My steak ranchero was a large plate that cost $ 9.95, the chicken soup was $ 6.50, veggie burrito was $ 5.75 and the mexican tamarind soda was $ 2.15. All other items were similarly priced and I don’t believe anything on their entire menu exceeds $ 10 or $ 11. Now that’s ballin’ on a budget!

MIVIDA, MICORAZON, MITACOS Today is Tuesday — very appropriate for a taco review, even though my visit here was last week. It was a Friday afternoon and we’d just finished a very mediocre and dissatisfying pedicure treatment up the street. I was hungry for satisfaction. Found it in a taqueria! We ordered crispy tacos($ 2.95), soft tacos($ 1.85), and large bottles of Coke($ 2.75). Chips and salsa were complimentary. I told the cashier I’d never been here before and she pointed out which salsas were which and where the chips were. The place isn’t huge but I appreciated her courtesy. We found a table by the window and checked out the arcade machines(I didn’t play any before eating since that would have cut into my chips and salsa time). The chips were thick cut, which typically I don’t like, but in this case the salsas were all pretty good and it was nice to have a chip that could hold a lot of salsa. They had three salsas including a tasty verde on one side of the salsa bar, and then another salsa alone on the other side. It was a deep shade of rojo and I knew that meant caliente. Awesome! Food arrived just as we finished checking out the wall of menu items pictured. Our food looked just like it did on the wall! Very tasty. I actually preferred the crispy taco here. And the carnitas over the pollo. All in all — it was just what I needed. What a great place to spend part of my Friday afternoon!
