This is an d Concord favorite. Traditional diner setting. The servers are always on top of things, making sure you have everything as quick as possible. This visit was a little different though. I like to sit at the counter so Jayme is my server. She is great! Very nice, intuitive and efficient. I’ve worked in the service industry, mostly restaurant management, my whole adult life. I would hire Jayme in a heartbeat! Actually, I’d probably try to steal her away! So, with that said, I was extremely concerned at an event during my recent visit. Let me explain. I’m not sure who the owner is. I think it’s the older(not old) white-haired man. He seems to be in charge anyway. We normally see him cooking at the grill with another older man with graying hair. This day the first mentioned man stepped away from the grill to visit with someone. The other man was cooking with help from a younger Hispanic man. I ordered a patty melt on rye. Perfectly cooked! Juicy, flavorful, fresh and so delish! While eating, I was watching things at the grill. There was a slow, steady flow of orders coming in. Some phone orders came in as well. Just as I would expect my employees to do, the servers jump in, supporting each other as needed. Jayme walked up to the counter, noticing there was played food, said to the gray-haired man«where does this go»? The cook glared at her and said«it’s for my order.» Again, she asked what it was for. I’m guessing it was so she could start getting it ready to go out. That assumption is based solely on what I observed and from many years in food service. The cook gets a bit more rude and repeats the same«its for my order». I just kept thinking to myself«what a jerk!» That was uncalled for! The atmosphere, up until that moment, was one of friendly diner meets hungry guest. I became quite offended at this man’s attitude. I couldn’t see any reason for it. Both servers looked at each other as if to say«what’s that all about». Yet neither said a word. So, maybe he’s the boss, I don’t know. Either way, he was so rude and, to me, did not appreciate how hard these ladies work. If you ever get down to downtown Concord, I still recommend this place. The food is great. My only complaints are… 1– Buy Heinz ketchup! These guys buy cheap ketchup and it so gross! I can’t choke it down. 2– detail those bathrooms! So disgustingly dirty! Years of no detail cleaning. Could use some TLC!

Normally I would give them a 4 star for food quality and 5 for service but today they get a 1, If a business posts and advertise they close at 2pm on Sat and it’s slow so they decide to close at 1:30 it really pisses me off, I drive off the 680 to get some breakfast and they have the door locked and closing, I showed them through the window they closed ½ hour early and somebody waved at me to come and I declined, I wouldn’t be able to relax knowing they were all waiting for me to finish and leave… If your not going to honor your time posted than change the posted time…

All original parts. The food was tasty, the service outstanding and the owner welcoming. It’s a blast from the past and our new post-Costco treat.

This is the best place to eat in Concord for a delicious and hearty breakfast. The wait staff is always courteous and friendly. They always keep your coffee cup full and the food moving. The kitchen is right in front of you, so you see your food being prepared and served at breakneck speeds. Everything is cooked to perfection every time and the portions are big enough to fill up a big guy like me. it’s not fancy, just a good ol’ fashioned diner that fits perfectly in the heart of Concord. Every time I’m in there I see good people, families, bikers, couples all enjoying great food and atmosphere. Its eggs, hash browns, breakfast meats and pancakes all cooked to perfection. Check them out if you want the best traditional American breakfast around.

Greeted immediately, sat and had coffee in seconds and the coffee was rather good. do your selves a favor get the chicken fried steak and some hash browns. You’ll die at 50 but with a smile on your face.

Worst customer services ever! As soon as I walked in no one greeted us at all. And few seconds later told us to pick a seat anywhere. Then we asked for our drinks and the coffee was cold and I asked for warmer coffee and our server gave us attitude that it barely came fresh out when clearly is was cold. Then it was time to order our food I asked if I could switch one of my items with ham and she said no very rude. Once we got the food the eggs were cold and took forever to check on us to ask how things were going. I asked for a refill and a water and she never brought us anything. I had to go and asked for the check. This was my first and last time coming here. I will never go back worst customer service.

My family & I eat breakfast at the Sugar Plum Coffee Shop a couple of times a month. The food is good, it always arrives quickly, even if the place is packed & the service is professional & kind. The last time we were there our 2 year old had a bit of a classic toddler breakdown & our server, Andrea, helped us handle it like a champ. She was super helpful & very pleasant. Looking forward to going back. Thanks, again.

I visit this place often and I come back for a few good reasons. Staff is always welcoming with a smile. Food has always been delicious(only go for breakfast). Prices are reasonable and my coffee cup is never empty. I love stepping in and having the old time diner feel from when I was a young buck.

Great breakfast location. Haven’t tried anything other than basic breakfast items on the menu. Good prices. They now accept major credit cards. Coffee is good quality and is served hot and fresh. I’m a coffee snob and can say I enjoyed their house pour. Food is prepared as ordered and delivered in less than 10 minutes normally. Staff is friendly and very outgoing. The«classic» breakfast is hearty and more than you get at any chain. Prices are good and you can tell the food is quality, not cheap. Bravo overall keep up the good work. Location is good but parking can fill up. I suggest parking in the back.

Im a very early rising cat. I’m not one of those people who can wake up and just eat an early lunch. I need a breakfast! Thus, I find myself using Unilocal to find the nearest breakfast place in the area, and to my surprise, there was a place literally around the corner from where I was searching! Sugar plum seems to be a nice little neighborhood spot. I can see that it is the sort of place that would bring in a lot of regulars for a quick bite, but not the sort of place that others would go out of their way to try. The place is old, definitely pretty run down, but it has a bit of charm to it for sure. I ordered a Joes special which seemed to be popular as a table near us got the same thing. My friend got their Breakfast burrito. Food here is prepared quick and service is prompt. The servers do seem a bit serious Ill admit, but Its not anything I would consider rude or coming across as bored. My meal was served with some fried potatoes which I absolutely loved! Also served with some toast which was a bit underdone, but that is better than burnt. The eggs were prepared well, and cheese was sprinkled over the top. I am pretty sure it was just basic costco brand mix cheese, but it gets the job done right? Portions here are LARGE and you definitely are getting your moneys worth here. While it may not be the most high quality top notch breakfast, I do see why many would come around here as regulars. Overall, it was decent food and decent service. Nothing outstandingly good, but nothing bad I could knock them for really I feel. *chirp!*

I wanted to like this place because I’m a big fan of retro diners. But as noted in previous reviews, the place is dirty. Not just a little dirty. Gross dirty. That broke my heart because it would be such and easy fix. Soap, water, scrub. Done. Repeat as necessary. My sunny-side-up eggs came out fast but undercooked. Parts of the eggs whites were still clear and cool. How do I like my eggs? Salmonella-free, thank you. None of the employees seemed happy to be there. No one smiled. I felt sorry for them. There’s good amount of free parking in the their lot. This place has a ton of potential given its location and the fixes would be easy. Too bad.

This is the worst place for biscuits and gravy I’ve ever been to and I looooove me some biscuits and gravy. I like to think of myself on a quest for the best. The waitress pulled a biscuit out of a bag and microwaved it before putting on the gravy. Like what?!? The only plus was price was cheap. You get what you pay for… and bring cash.

The breakfast sandwich was delicious. The menu listed it for $ 7.50 but I was charged $ 8.50 Also, $ 4.25 for a glass of OJ that isn’t freshly squeezed is kinda steep

Good quality food, fast and a five minute walk from concord Bart station. I had the California omelette(bacon, jack and avocado) and I added mushrooms and onions. I chose sourdough toast and hash browns. My meal was 10.95!!! Bring cash so you don’t have to pay .99 cent transaction fee.

My honey and I kicked off a recent staycation with a run and post-run breakfast here. A little rough around the edges, sure, but I love having an old diner so close to home. We were warmly welcomed, just like the obvious regulars bellied up to the bar. We were seated in a booth and started with coffee, which was quite good and refilled often. We both ordered biscuits and gravy and a side of bacon to share. When our food arrived shortly after, I was glad that our wise server had recommend that we downsize our order to 1.5 orders of biscuits and gravy, instead of two. My honey couldn’t even finish the full order! The biscuits were big and fluffy and topped with generous amounts of flavorful gravy. We left full and happy and less than $ 20 lighter. Bring cash.

I grew up with this tiny hole in the wall coffee shop. It might not look like much from the outside, but the wait to get a table should tell you something. They are kind, quick, and tickle your taste buds. I will love the food, atmosphere, and effort that they put into this place. When I want a really good hearty breakfast this is where I come. The prices, service, and food really keep me coming back.

I am a huge fan of diners and I love supporting small local businesses but unfortunately, my vote is 2 solid stars. The diner is located at the corner or Colfax with street parking and plenty of parking in the back. Cash only — they do have an ATM machine that has a .99 cent fee. The customer service was on point, everyone was very attentive and I appreciated that as busy as they were, they did not rush us to leave. Unfortunately, the diner was filthy… from the dated paint and dirt on the walls, to the grim sticking to the chairs and tables, spotty bent utensils, wobbly booths and sunken seating — I mean this place really needs a makeover or better yet a health inspector visit. I was hoping the food would make things better, but sadly it was not. We had Belgian waffles(very dry, strawberries were sour), pancakes(average) and oatmeal. Prices were very reasonable. To be fair, it was busy with a lot of repeat customers, unfortunately I won’t be one of them.
