The beef shami and the combo plate are so yummy. I usually order an extra side of rice, so that I can have leftovers for lunch the next day. It is a hidden gem. I can see how it would get overwhelmed, as it is a small place with a small staff, but that adds to its charm. I’m not usually one to venture outside of my comfort zone, but I am glad that I did for this place.

This place is the absolute best hidden treasure! My husband served overseas and always talked about the amazing food. We found this place a few years back after his deployment and he said every time he eats here it takes him back. Very authentic and extremely good. Try the lamb! Try everything! You won’t regret it!

Nothing to write home about! Yes, it’s very clean. Yes, the service is passable. Yes, the prices are reasonable for the amount of food. But that’s all I’ve got… The food is not even mediocre! Seriously, don’t waste your time or money. Go somewhere else, anywhere else. Hell, even swing through Taco Bell. You will have a better experience if flavor is what you are after. I had the fish pakora which was actually pretty good even though the portion was small. Then had the lamb karahi… NOTGOOD! Not good at all!!! Thrown together, tasted like terrible Itilian marinara sauce. I mean, really not good :( I have had this dish many times at many other places and this was by far the worst ever! The rice was soggy, they give only a half a piece of WHOLEWHEAT naan. What!?! I mean I was edible, but honestly, I would never go back or recommend any one going.

I didn’t like it. Better places. Naan & Curry near the todos santos plaza is so much better!

Thank you Unilocal for leading me to this restaurant. Everything we ordered was so good. The only problem is that, service is slow especially when there are a lot of people dining in and picking up take out orders as there is only one staff doing everything. But basically, you will love the food.

Warm hospitality & good Kabob. The service & ambiance of this restaurant is better suited to a five star hotel– than a corner off of Monument Blvd. If you are looking for genuine Afghan food & culture — Chopan Kabob is a MUST! 5 stars all the way. The hand painted murals & warm Kabab are soothingto the soul… Try the Chabli !

Lamb Kabobs and Beef Shami are my ‘go to’ choices when I go there… always gotta combo them up! I’ve tried some of the other choices of meats and seasoning styles, which are all good. I know whenever I go there I can feel comfortable knowing I’ll get good grub, no matter what, with good service and cozy family owned atmosphere. They give consistent portion sizes at a fair price and you can add to your combos without worrying too much that the check will sky rocket into oblivion. Glad my friend introduced me to this place a couple years ago! And to the owners, Keep up the good work! –Chris

This place is a Concord gem for Afghan food. As a half Afghan patron, I think the food is very tasty. Its also authentic and stays true to what Afghan food tastes like. I have been there numerous times and love the small family feel and good customer service. Its also affordable and thats always appreciated. If you go, I recommend the bolani and a meat dish! And as a tip, to say hello in farsi you can use the greeting«Salam» and to say thank you, say«Tasha-kor»!

The food by itself is good, very good and kind of cheap. But the restaurant by itself looks cheap too, sometimes very crowded, long time to wait to get a food to be served. Kind of hole in a wall with a few tables. A good place to take a food out, by calling an hour before arriving.

The place looks spruced up since the last time I was here a couple years ago. Looks much nicer and put together now. The menu seems to have remained the same — all good. I used to have ex-colleagues who mostly went to this place for their Chaplee kabab. I don’t eat red-meat myself, and so cannot vouch for how good their Chaplee kabab is, but my Korean friend says that he liked it very much. I wasn’t feeling too adventurous the other day, and so got the Chicken Seekh kabab, which came with a very generous portion of very nicely done Basmati rice flavored with lots of Sumac, wheat Lavash bread and salad on the side. Also with both our lunch meals we got a generous cup of warm vegetable soup — very tasty! Tried the Eggplant Borani on a prior visit which was alright, but I prefer their Bolanis for appetizers instead. As far as their menu is concerned, would love to see some of the staples of Afghan cuisine included — Kabuli Pulao, Mantu, etc. Encountered pretty friendly service each time I was there. This place is definitely worth a try.

Delicious! When Annabelle P. and I first ate at Chopan, we had the chicken kabob plate, lamb kabob plate, and bolani. SOMUCHFOOD. When we returned with the rest of the family, we also tried the lamb wrap and lamb karachi. If you can’t tell, we love lamb. Overall, this a great spot for dinner. The service is excellent, food is amazing, and portions are huge.

Chopan Kabob was my first experience with Afgan food. The place is small. Really small. At 9 pm on a friday night was packed, so we waited for a table in the parking lot for quite a while. The food was pretty good. The rice was nicely cooked and all of the meats were tender. I liked the different spices both on the food and at the table. Hands down the best thing we had was the eggplant app. I am glad I tried it, will I be back? That all depends on if my husband is successful at re-creating the menu items we tried which he usually is. If not, we may come back for a refresher.

Since our sandwich showdown was postponed, we needed a plan B. Plan B meant kabobs! So we ventured out to the bellies of Concord. Chopan Kabob is in a little unassuming little strip mall with a Las Montanas Market. There’s plenty of parking. We arrived a little after 11:40 and there wasn’t any one in the place, but good thing we came early because it was packed by the time we left as the tables line the wall of the restaurant and can only accommodate maybe 30 people? there are 4 tables of 4 on the far side and two larger tables on the other side. There were a good variety of items on the menu. We went with the Bonjan Borani(which was the eggplant dish that reminded me of babaganoush) for our appetizer. I chose the combination plate since I love getting a sampler even though I know I can’t finish everything. So what’s the verdict? The Bonjan was okay. I don’t think it was something mind blowingly good. if you like eggplant or babaganoush then you’ll like this. My friend mentioned that it was lacking some seasoning. I think I could go either way. The combination plate was a good amount of food for $ 14. The chicken was a bit dry. The ground beef had no flavor. The beef steak pieces were my favorite. Perfectly seasoned and juicy. Good thing they had the green sauce so that I could add some flavor to the other meats. There’s a nice little side salad, a minestrone soup(very unexpected and not anything to rave about), basmati rice and a ever flowing basket of flatbread. Overall? I’ve had better, but the service was pretty good, though they never refilled my water, but they at least refilled the bread. I did get back to my desk feeling really really dehydrated. I’ve had several cups of water and my mouth is still parched! Also you’ll likely smell of food for the rest of the day. Perhaps we’ll come back to try the bolani but I’m not one to run to a place to get bolani’s but if persuaded will go.

Great tasting food and awesome service. No one ever has a complaint about Chopan Kebab because it’s just that good and consistent! I’ve been going for years and it’s always been a delectable experience. If you haven’t tried afghan food, I recommend venturing out. Chopan kebab menu is simple to follow and the owner is always there and willing to answer any questions. I recommend the Bolani combination as an appetizer with the eggplant dish! So yummy. When it comes to kebabs their chaplee and shami are amazing. My family always gets the combination platter gives you a taste of everything. The chicken is so juicy. The platters come with rice, a small salad and afghan naan. Parking is pretty easy to find, it’s located in a shopping market area a bit hidden but you can’t miss its on the corner entrance. Family owned, great food, they also cater!

Being on a vegetarian diet and dining with the daughter can sometimes prove to be a tricky situation. However, the daughter is getting more adventurous and finally developing an appreciation for spicy foods with nuanced flavors. Still, I sometimes forget this and was very pleasantly surprised to have her agree after I halfheartedly suggested Afghan food. I have been hearing about Chopan Kabob for quite some time now but I have not been able to stop by. But I am happy to finally have gone because I and the daughter are fans. We ordered the Bolani Gandana, Bonjan Borani, and Dall. The Bolani Gandana was delicious but had too many small pieces of chopped herbs and leeks with every bite. Now do not get me wrong, I do not say that this is necessarily a bad thing, except for the fact that having recently acquired braces, let us just say that the Bolani made me seem less than refined than usual. I will order it again because it is delicious, but I will eat it in the privacy of my home. The Bonjan Borani was a little spicier than I was anticipating and made me worry that the daughter would give me death stares after all my promises that nothing will be too spicy for her. But it proved to be the daughter’s favorite. The dall was also very tasty. It was perfectly spiced and surprisingly heavy on the stomach. We hardly finished half of it but only because we ordered more than we can consume. Especially considering that we were also given complimentary soup and salad with our meal. It made for excellent dinner the next day. Chopan Kabob serves fantastic and generous Afghan fare with great service and reasonable prices. I also like the neighborhood restaurant vibe. We will be back.
