as of ½/​15 united propane on vets hwy in commack is out of business.

Fast efficient propane refills at a fraction of the cost of most popular «garden depots». They charge about 15 bucks for average sized tanks. *Note that you must bring your own tank though as they do not supply or exchange tanks*.
The location is somewhat obscure set back from the side of Vets Highway right across from the Commack Post Office, so you gotta look for it. There is a large dirt lot in front of the main building which also serves as a Christmas tree sales spot during the holidays.
Commack Propane also also offers a home hook-​up service if one wanted to convert to propane for cooking and such. As of this writing they charge $ 125.00 for the initial hook-​up, $ 65.00 a year for a 50 gallon tank, and $ 4.35/gallon for the propane. I found this has saved me $$ as opposed to my electric oven/​stove, which is always a good thing!
