Last week I purchased a washer and dryer from Sears at 1400 Polaris Parkway. The items were suppose to be delivered yesterday, Wednesday, July 8th. they did not make the delivery. I did not receive a call advising me of the status of the delivery. Four hours ago I called the sales person to ask about the status of my delivery. Left a voice message since I was told she was busy with a customer. No return call as of yet. Called Sears delivery. I was told the delivery was not made because the goods were damaged. When ask why I did not receive a call or an email, the person with delivery had no explanation for the lack of a call, but he did tell me they are not allowed to send emails to customers to advise them of delays. Now the delivery is to occur on Saturday but not make a commitment to time frame and the delivery unit can not send an email confirming a Saturday delivery. I am to sit here the entire day(maybe?) waiting on Sears again.

Full disclosure: I haven’t shopped in a sears for clothing in probably 10 years. With the exception of the Lands End section. I wandered into a department with the brand called“Metaphor” and was pleasantly surprised by the choices and style. I took a ton of career-type clothing into the dressing room and surprising found some skinny-style dress pants that were well made and fit nicely. Some of the products, especially the shirts, did have flaws in the sewing construction. You really just need to try things on. I would actually recommend this brand for career wear to my friends. However, checking out was another story. I stood in line for probably 15 minutes behind a couple who had some sort of issue. I watched the cashier slowly, so slowly, take off each hanger and carefully fold, and then stuff the clothing into the bag. It was aggravating. She even called for backup help, and I watched no less than 7 employees walk past, and did not help. This is were Sears gets it’s bad reputation, customer service sucked.

I never thought I would be saying this ever, but I now like Sears for our household appliances. When I was a little girl my dad would come to Sears all the time and I never understood why he liked the store so much. Then recently my dad and I had a conversation and he gave me the wise advice a father would, to look at the Consumer Reports for washer and dryers. So I spend my time going through the Consumer Reports through each washer and dryer brand. Then I do my research at all the stores comparing prices and such one would do when looking for a new appliance. My main focus is that I was going to get a reliable brand and that’s what I was shown tonight with the Kenmore Elite. Kenmore is known for making washer and dryer systems and refrigerators of course. It’s more than just that, I looked up one of it’s competitors that people are buying like LG and I saw some of the worst reviews about how unreliable they are and how those systems are computerized so the product can sometimes go wrong and create a problem where it might just explode in the middle of a wash in your room. Let me tell you that would not be pretty if that ever happened in my home. Thank goodness I did my research and came to Sears! Not only was the product great but the gentlemen in that department was also very knowledgeable and helpful. We couldn’t have made a better choice than to come to Sears for their great sale price and reliable brands!

My daughter wanted some fancy pillows for her bed. Sears happen to be having a buy one get one on pillows. They had a nice selection — she got a phat deal on some phat pillows. Their score I am tempted to dock some more due to the lack of customer focused attitude from two employees i encountered in the brief time I was in there.

Great place to shop. I get all my tools and appliances here. Nothing better than Craftsmen and Kenmore

I purchased a pricey Electrolux dishwasher last Oct(08). Within 1 week it broke and out came the Sear’s appliance repairman to fix it. This happened 3 more times within the year. This last time the dishwasher would not drain and the repairman needed to order parts of which he was not sure how long it would be… but it would not be soon. Beyond angry, frustrated, & furious with Sears & Electrolux I headed over to Sears to speak with the management. Much to my delight Larry(Sear’s assistant manager) came to the rescue and said Sears would take care of this. They are getting me a new dishwasher(I’m definitely NOT getting another Electrolux) and they are installing it this week. Larry has been with the company for 39 years and definitely understands and does customer service. Earlier today I had written Sears off completely saying I’d never purchase anything from them ever again. But later in the day after meeting Larry and receiving this type of caring customer service I’ll be purchasing my other appliances from them.

What can you say about Sears? It’s one of America’s original department stores and the one we all grew up with, but is it as good today as it was way back then? Why are they still in business? Apparently, they know how to compete in this 21st century global retail war. So, do I like Sears? Yeah, but not emphatically. We’ve purchased several appliances from Sears over the past few years including a TV and a Microwave Oven. I think the only reason we even bothered going to Sears is because we lived nearby and they were having a big sale. I have to admit that they do have an amazing variety of goods and products. Other than that, I don’t see any other reason why we should go back. I just got off the phone with their customer service department. Surprisingly, I got right through(on a Saturday)! The lights underneath our microwave aren’t working properly. The problem now is that they want to charge $ 65 for the visit and cannot quote a labor fee over the phone, because it’[s not hourly. I said, «What good is that? The Microwave is worth less than $ 65 now and you can’t quote me an hourly labor rate. Why bother?» Oh well, I can’t blame Sears entirely for this situation, but it sure would be nice if they could walk me through the problem like they used to do in the good ol’ days. What can I say — Sears is Sears — just another department store in my eyes.
