Have you ever read all these reviews of a place and thought«maybe I ordered the wrong thing?» Well I just read in Columbus Underground that Phatt Taco won best taco as some taco judging event this week. To be clear I DIDNOT get a taco. Upon the gentleman’s recommendation I ordered the tostada. It was okay. Just okay. I went there for lunch one day as I’d always wanted to try it. Did I set my expectations too high? Maybe. It just all seemed like something I could put together easily at home and they were there more for the downtown lunch crowd that would come whether it was good or not. Maybe I’ll give their tacos a try another time but for now… just two stars.

Great spot! Loved the fresh tostadas including the fruit salsa that changes based on the season. I never would have thought that blueberries would be a good mix with Mexican food but it was wonderful! Definitely recommend for anyone in the downtown Columbus area!

I really wish Cincinnati had a place like this. I found myself in Columbus for a meeting earlier this week, and my boss and I needed a good place for lunch. She’s not the most creative person in the world so if it was up to her, we’d have been at Jimmy John’s or something(not to knock JJ’s but come on). Anyway, when we walked up, she immediately wanted to go somewhere else. I thought the outside looked kinda cool, but I guess she disagreed. Then there was hardly anyone in the restaurant, so she again tried to convince me to go somewhere. I was hell bent on trying this place so I ignored her and walked up to the counter. I’m glad I did. Pros: Everything was super fresh. I particularly loved their fresh salsa which included peaches and blueberries. I had no clue how that was going to work with the meat, but it was perfect! The prices were also incredible. I even got a healthy scope of avocado at no extra cost. It seems like they switch up the menu every day as well as they were offering a daily special of ahi tuna when we visited. Finally, the ambiance was great, and it just seems like a good spot to stop in quickly for some carryout or to hang out a bit with friends. Cons: The portions are somewhat small. Admittedly, I like to eat a lot so that might have been the problem, but I certainly was hungry for dinner. Check this place out. I think it offers something different and fresh. You won’t be disappointed!

I do not understand how so many people like this place so much. The ingredients were fresh, but the food was bland, bland, bland. All I can say is, I prefer Mexican Food.

I haven’t been in for the past few months, but I went here once a week during the winter. The prices are cheap, portions are a good size, never a wait when I go in, and the owners are SUPER friendly. The kind of people you want to become friends with. A great downtown lunch option.

I really like this place. Custom cooking and help from the lovely Emily is very helpful and willing to build anything I ask for. So having steak and jalapenos and tomatoes and tomato salsa on bed of rice and Mex CocaCola. Excellent. Thanks Emily

Perfect for lunch, super quick and delicious! Everything is already made(Chipotle style) but everything tastes so fresh and flavorful. I ordered the beef tostada and told him I like it spicy so he poured two of the bottled sauces on top. The beef was seasoned so well, great flavor. You only get one tostada which I was definitely expecting two for the price but it was just enough food.

Phat Taco lives up to its name. When I ordered a pescado tostada, the portion was substantial. Not too much food, but the right amount of fresh tasting, full flavor fare.

We braved the cold today shortly after 11:00 this afternoon only to pull on a locked door. No signage indicating why.

I absolutely love this place. The food is fresh and flavorful, the staff is welcoming and accommodating, and the prices are comparable to places like Chipotle. The restaurant itself is clean and easy to get to. I generally eat a salad there, as I try to stay as grain– and legume-free as possible in my diet — I’ve had their carnitas and barbacoa and both are really tasty and robust without being overwhelming. The three sauces they have for their food are an avocado/lime/cilantro sauce, a habanero mayo, and a traditional salsa. They are more than happy to let you mix and match, and will give wonderful advice on the best sauces for each meat. Today, they had free mulled cider while you waited for your food to be made. The little things there mean a lot to them.

Today was my first time here for lunch; I had the fish tostadas and paid the $ 1.00 extra for the blueberry salsa. The fish is not breaded or deep-fried and tasted really good with the salsa, lettuce, and the sauces. It included black beans and rice. I added a Jarrito soda for $ 2.00. They have a nice dining room and the young man working was pleasant. The menu is simple, and they also offer fresh fruit smoothies.

Went back today for the tamales and they were amazing. Even better than the tacos. I also tried the fresh seasonal salsa(blueberries, tomatoes, etc) and it was very good too. The only way I think it could have been better is if the salsa had been packaged separately from my tamales/rice/beans. Since I got takeout, the salsa ended up being warm. I think I would have liked it chilled, but that’s just personal preference.

The fish tostadas were pretty good. They were a little lacking in flavor but the fresh cilantro, jalapeños, and pickled peppers that you can add yourself made up for it. The food isn’t as good as El Arepazo but it’s faster. I’ll definitely be back.

I had the two tacos and salad for lunch and it was very tasty. They load up the tacos with beans and rice, and I chose the barbacoa and carnitas which both were savory and tender. Their sauces were great, I especially recommend the cilantro and avocado cream sauce. And you can load up your tacos with cilantro, limes, and veggies at the toppings/hot sauce bar. Overall a great lunch spot in downtown. My only star off is because I would have liked black beans instead of refried, and the authentic mexican tortillas instead of the run of the mill variety they have.

I made my first trip to Phatt Taco today for lunch. All in all, it was really tasty! I had the Barbacoa Tostadas with everything on them. The Barbacoa was cooked really well and had excellent flavor. The bar with a selection of fresh sliced jalapenos, onions, hot sauces, and fresh cilantro to top your food is fantastic. The only thing I wish is that there had been a little bit of pico de gallo at the hot sauce/pepper bar because I love tomatoes on my tacos. Other than that, this was a really good and a big portion for only $ 7.50. I’ll definitely be back.
