I first came to Patrick J’s after moving to the area. I really liked the place! It’s comfortable and low key, perfect place to kick back with a few friends to talk. I’m only giving three stars because one thing I initially loved about Patrick J’s changed. I started coming once a week to get a Reuben — my favorite sandwich. Recently the food quality has lowered and become sub par. I’m hoping things will look up though, it’s truly a laid back neighborhood hangout.

Bar for the common man. If you’re looking for The Crest, go to The Crest. This is a Zenos/O’reily’s style bar with a better patio and a better beer selection. Food is on par with O’reily’s, good. The food is slightly high in price but the wings are awesome and the rest of the menu is much better than normal bar fare. I don’t really get the hateful reviews, nothing to hate at this bar.

Ugh. I live so close to Patrick J’s and I was hoping this could become a neighborhood hang out. We came on a Sunday afternoon to watch football and eat bar food. The back patio is great. Two TV’s outside and lots of tables. I would consider coming back here for a drink, but I’ll never order food here again. My BF and I ordered wings, sliders w/sweet potato fries, and nachos to split. The nachos were literally chips with microwaved cheddar cheese and a sprinkling of tomato and lettuce. Salsa and sour cream came on the side. They were terrible. Our waitress comes back 10 minutes later and says they are out of chicken wings. What? Okay. My boyfriend orders a sub. Another 10 minutes goes by and the waitress comes back to say they are out of sweet potato fries. Alright. I settled on regular fries. My sliders were awful. The meat tasted… off. My fries were unseasoned. Ugh. My BF didn’t love his sub, but he said it was okay. I spent a portion of that night with a horrible stomach ache from the food. I guess regulars keep this place in business. I really wish they had better food because the location and patio are great. I’m not sure if I’ll ever be back.

Met up with the Short North Running Club yesterday before and after a 4 mi. run. Perfect weather and figured it would be a perfect time for a pint of beer and an appetizer. Unfortunately, I should have known better as I smelled the smoking odor from the inside. As many previous reviewers mention, it is definitely a throwback neighbourhood Irish-American pub with early 90s sports memorabilia. Locals and folks that don’t want the gastro pub pretentiousness would consider would consider Patrick J’s a half decent spot. Patio seating is plentiful, the wait staff was friendly, and I took a look at the menu initially. Had some vegetarian options along w/decent happy hr. pricing, yet nothing you couldn’t easily make at home. Before I had the chance to order, the foul smell of the smoke was getting worse. I know Patrick J’s likes to support local events; I could have sworn this was a smoker’s rights convention the way every white woman in her early 40s was chain smoking. At that point, I knew the second-hand smoke was something I didn’t have to tolerate if I was going to spend any money there. Would be more than open to trying Patrick J’s out again if the smokiness wasn’t such a huge factor. To fellow asthmatics and Unilocalers, keep driving along High St. to find other quality Clintonville drinking establishments.

Has a great patio but service and food are terrible. Have been there twice and they only have one waitress managing the patio and bar. Takes forever to get a menu and then place an order. Food is subpar bar food. Curly fries are good but everything else is blah. Beer selection is mediocre. They’ll bring a draft list and then tell you all the beers that they’re out of. Try someplace else.

I loved Patrick J’s! I have been going for years as it has good food at a decent price, however, the last time, and it will be the last time, I wanted onion rings instead of fries as a complement to my reuben that comes with fries and I was charged the full amount for the ‘rings but didn’t receive any fries! They have lost my business forever and probably more than one of my friends. Terrible, just awful.

Giving Patrick J’s four stars due to the patio; service is hit-or-miss; food is not O’Reilly’s, but edible for an almost-dive-bar. I do love their french onion soup.

Fabulous Happy Hour specials and great food. Yes, this feels like your neighborhood bar, but it has the best Happy Hour in Town! They have their Happy Hour special going till 8pm, so no need to rush there right after work. Their menu is huge! We were so surprised to see such a large menu for a small bar. The food is very good — not your typical bar food. I recommend the pretzel bun turkey sandwich and the turkey Ruben. Service was fast and our waitress was very friendly. We’ll be back for sure! The only reason I’m not giving 5 stars is because there was still a distinct smell of cigarette smoke and I would have preferred less shading on the windows for more light to come in. Also, somebody told me this was an Irish Bar, which surprised me, because there is little to no hint of Irish décor.

The worst dining experience I have had in Columbus to date. Food’s bad – even for bar food, patrons smoke inside – a huge no-no for my dining experience, and the service was bad. There was nothing about my experience here I would ever like to have again. Went here for a late night dinner burger and beer after a day of moving. I was tired and just wanted a a cold frosty adult beverage, a burger and fries. Every expectation that this place could deliver. Have you ever been to that old, tired looking bar on the corner? You know – it’s dark on the inside a nice wood bar, well worn bar stools, 1980s and 90s baseball memorabilia and old school beer ads. On occasion it can be endearing. You can pop in every so often and know exactly what you are gonna get: nice unpretentious folks serving decent food – nothing special, but not bad, Bud Light or Miller Lite on draft, and there is the one thing on the menu that is inevitably better than everything else – usually it’s the fries or homemade chips. That’s exactly what I expected from this neighborhood bar. It’s definitely not what I got when I visited this place for the first and last time. We sat down, seated ourselves, no problem. The waitress who is also the bartender is obviously into a conversation with the regulars seated at the bar. Again, no worries. But it took her a while and me turning around waiving after about 10 minutes of being seated for her to come over empty handed telling us she would be back with our waters. At this point I was irritated. We may not be the regulars, but don’t make us feel like outcasts. Everything that could go wrong did. Just after we got our waters a patron at the bar lit a cigarette and was puffing away. Shortly after that I was given the wrong beer. Man – really? I ordered a burger with a few custom options and my partner ordered a chicken sandwich. She got my toppings and bread and I got hers. My burger wasn’t anything special. A Sodexo frozen food special, no doubt. By this point all we wanted to do was get out of there as fast as possible. The cigarette smoke was giving me a headache and everything about this place was getting on my nerves. Long story short – I should have gone somewhere else and I will from here on out. If you are considering a burger and beer in Clintonville you have two better options that come to mind – The Crest or O’Reilly’s. The Crest is a hipster haven, but there’s no smoke inside, the food is not amazing, but not bad and there’s usually a long wait. That said, if you are really craving the dive bar experience and don’t mind smokers, head over to O’Reilly’s a few blocks north on High Street. It’s everything you expect from your neighborhood dive bar and that one exceptional thing on the menu – it’s their peppercorn burger.

The dangling hemorrhoid of bars. I have a hard time finding a neighborhood bar I don’t like but they should drive a fire engine through this place and be done with it. The average patron IQ is around 70 and the food is average WHENTHEYGETAROUNDTOBRINGINGIT.

Honestly I was a bit disappointed. It has a columbus theme to it which dishes named after different neighborhoods. But honestly between the wait to be given menus, finally be asked what we wanted and actually get our food some time later for average good it was just meh. Very was good and they have seasonal options, relaxed but not inclined to come again.

This place has a nice patio. They don’t have any good ciders, so GF homies beware, but you can get a Strongbow or one of those terrible macrobrewery ciders, I forget which one.

TWO happy hours one from 4 – 7 the other 12am– 2am that in and of it self is a reason to go to this popular local favorite bar. The food here I can not speak for, I’ve never had it, but it looked pretty tasty, and if you look on the menu, they are all named after local streets which is pretty awesome. The high point of Patrick J’s is the awesome patio which has tons of seating and two nice TV’s that are good to watch the game on at night. The beer prices are really reasonable. Why go some place else when you can get a pint for 2 bucks? The service here is hit or miss, I have been served quickly, and at other times, there has been almost a refusal. IT is however close to my house, and has pretty awesome name that tune trivia on Wed, which is popular, and draws a diverse crowd.

Depending on what you’re looking for, Patrick J’s isn’t terrible. However, it’s also not great in any way. The food is typical frozen-then-fried bar food. But I guess you can’t go wrong with a basket of curly fries. I’d say overall, you can get better bar food for a better price across the street at O’reillys. The beer: beer snobs need not enter. No real draft selection. Yuengling is probably the best you’ll get. Or Stella, if you like that. Blech. The atmosphere: inside is pretty blah. A few TVs around the bar. Honestly, if I head into PJs anymore, it’s for«name that tune» on Wednesdays(which is a great after-work decompression time), so that’s what i’m paying attention to. The patio isn’t bad, and I hear they are expanding?

I wouldn’t say Pj’s is «Hole In The Wall» bar as you cannot miss it, but it does have that feel. Staff are all friendly and attentive. and if you go as much as I do they normally know what your drinking by the time you sit down. Beer selection is pretty standard but they do always have Guinness and local beers from around Columbus. Food is your standard bar type food but I recommend the Chicken Nachos or Pizza for a first go as you won’t be disappointed. Also as a side note, when it gets warm the patio is where you’ll find me.

My buddy moved down the street, and despite having driven past this place for years, I’ve now finally started popping in with him. It’s a bar of regulars, and the crowd always seems to be different, but the staff is usually pretty damn good(I’ve experienced good, my friends tell me it’s hit and miss, but they also go more often than I). The food isn’t bad, and the beer selection isn’t the best, but it’s better than other places.

Patrick J’s is not really a place near where my regular stomping grounds are. Headed out here one evening to celebrate a milestone birthday for a family member. The patio out back was the perfect spot for a good time. Had their turkey sandwhich which was great. Typical bar food available on the menu. Impressed with the wait staff who were always running back to check on us, remembered everyone’s orders and keeping the drinks flowing. Very reasonably priced. Definitely would go back when I’m in the neighborhood.

I’ve been going to Patrick J’s the last few Sundays for our weekly ‘Ladies’ happy hour’ and I have to say I’m a fan. Laid back atmosphere, cold beer, pub food, and attentive service. No matter where we decide to sit a waitress is right there realy to bring us a beer. They have blue moon on tap, which make me happy, and the food is always so tempting. I usually resist, but am always jealous of neighboring tables. I notice some families even coming in for dinner. Anyway, we’re fans and will continue our Sunday tradition there.

Recently My drinking club with a running problem spent an afternoon taking over Patrick J’s patio and I was able to experience this local hangout. The servers were all eager to help our large group and continually supplied us with beverages. No one seemed to mind our rowdy bunch(we sing some interesting tunes) and the bartender even brought out a free pitcher at the end of the evening. I can’t say anything about the beverage selection, we were drinking Miller or Bud light all night long. However, I’ll say this much for the food, their cheese and bacon fries were fantastic. Maybe it was the spirit of the evening or that I hadn’t eaten in several hours, but I can’t complain about the food I sampled. On another note, there is only one restroom for each gender, which wasn’t as enjoyable later into the evening when the bar filled up. It was tough to walk to the entrance as the seating area was packed and there were large groups standing everywhere possible.
