This isn’t the greatest place to grab a drink on campus. In fact, it’s far from it, but I’ll start off with some of the good. Lucky’s is a pretty big space and bar as far as bars around this area go. The inside is very open, so it’s easy to move around, and they have one of the largest patios on campus. They have plenty of TVs, so I don’t really mind watching a game here, or at least part of the game, because it’s easy to see and pretty easy to get a drink. They have TVs facing out onto the patio as well, so you can watch the games outside, but plan on standing. They have a pool table as well, but if it gets crowded, you probably won’t be able to use it. They don’t serve food here, which is fine, but don’t plan on coming for a meal. However, they do usually have Dan’s Deli just outside of the building on Saturdays, and they server up some pretty great food out of their truck. As for the bad, Lucky’s doesn’t seem to take much care of the bar. Stick to drinking bottles here, because the drafts I’ve had are hard to stomach. I’m not sure if the lines are dirty, but the beers definitely don’t taste like they should, and they’re clearly flat. Also, there’s better drink specials on campus, and I wouldn’t say Lucky’s is better than any other bars. The bathrooms here are just nasty as hell, even by campus standards. I doubt anyone even checks them on the weekends once the bar opens, because they’re just gross. I’ve heard the women’s is even worse. Honestly, if you’re looking to check out campus bars on a game day, I wouldn’t make Lucky’s your first choice. The only reason I’m there usually is because there’s not too many people in the bar during the afternoon games, and it’s easy to get a drink. That’s pretty much the main upside to me. If you’re looking for the excitement of being on campus during a game, however, this probably isn’t where you’ll find it.

Luckys is cool. Good bar choice if your plan for the night is to get pretty inebriated. Pretty solid deals all around, and power hour from 7 – 9 on Saturdays is a must. Everything is between 1 – 3 $!!

«I’m never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down. Never gonna run around, and desert you…» Yes, Lucky’s, you just got rick’rolld. I had the best time drunkenly singing karaōke all night long. From Rick Astley, to Tom Petty, to a little«Killing Me Softly,» I basically owned the place– with the help of my friends and drunken crowd. I agree with Lisa S. that the bartenders seemed like they didn’t want to be there, even over a year later. However, they were quick to serve, and generous with the $ 1 bombs. Also, on Saturday’s they feature live Celtic music, winning! The patio at Lucky’s is huge! And includes a TV outside in case you are still wanting to catch the end of the ball game, while playing a game of corn-hole. The crowd on this Wednesday night was a mix of laid back college kids and older regulars. It was a nice hodgepodge and made for a great time. Or it could be my shamelessness that kept me singing and laughing all night long. But I’m guessing it was my pool shark skills. I showed those boys«wassupppp.» Whatever it is, Lucky’s… you are my new staple.

They didn’t have Murphy’s stout on tap. I was heartbroken. I cannot find it anywhere in Columbus, and it is sooooo much better than Guinness. Their tap selection is pretty good, with a handful of Irish/UK beers and local favorites like Bell’s. I didn’t see anyone actually Irish working, which might explain the lack of Murphys. Maybe. They charged a $ 2 cover, which I thought was totally reasonable, since there was a completely amazing Irish folk band playing. I genuinely enjoyed everything they played all night, and it wasn’t obtrusive or annoying, just nice. Their outdoor area is simple — just wooden picnic tables and cornholing, but nice. They also have darts inside. I have faith that someday they will get Murphy’s on tap since they had Murphy’s Red ale. So I will return.

My first visit here was with an Irishman, who happened to be from a small village not far from the owner’s. It was dead except for the owner and a few of his friends, myself and a couple friends, and a few ladies — it was cold, and I think school was on break. The beer selection? Great. The owner? Cool guy. Even coming back when the place was jam-packed on a campus night, the bartenders were quick, the beer was in stock, the music was decent, and the crowd was mellow — it was loud, but the crowd was still in the«friendly drunk» mode.

Came back here last night with a group of friends– maybe it was the company, or the fact that there was dance music, and no cover — but I had a better time. Your pop is still flat though Lucky’s…

Whoa, Lucky’s has changed. Or perhaps my tastes have changed. Probably a bit of both. I recently visited my old watering hole and left with a bad taste in my mouth(not bile). My memory of a warm and friendly bar has been replaced by cold hard reality. This bar just isn’t friendly anymore. The bartenders obviously don’t want to be there and the inside was completely vacant due to shitty DJ music inside and no shitty DJ music outside. In fact, the only thing Lucky’s still has going for it is the patio.

I want to like Lucky’s a lot, but I just can’t get all that excited about it. It looks and seems like a great place to have a lot of fun, but the truth is is that I’ve never really had that good of a time here. Lucky’s is right next to Bier Stube, and it is a world of improvement compared to that place. But it’s on High St. near 8th, and to be honest, I don’t like this area a whole lot. I’ve never felt like it was very safe because it’s just far enough south of campus to start getting into that questionable area where homeless people roam that leads down to the Kroghetto on High and King. So if I end up at Lucky’s I don’t exactly plan on bar hopping. This isn’t a good area for(ladies especially) to be doing that in. But once you’re inside, you’ll find pool tables, lots of tables and chairs, dart boards, TVs and a huge bar. The bar offers a great selection of beer, and while this should excite me, I’d rather go to Bodega for a good selection. I also don’t think the specials and drink prices are anything to get excited about. For being a campus bar, I think it is a little pricey. It seems like the best deals that people go with are the buckets of beers, but that’s only fun if you’re here with a group. I’ve also never been impressed with the service. The bartenders take so long to notice you and take your order it’s ridiculous. They’re always busy chatting it up with friends that come in and sit at the door. A few times I’ve been here, there’s been a bouncer at the door checking IDs. For some reason they’ve always been tough, scary looking guys that look at you as if you are using a fake ID and he wants to bust you or something. The staff here just seems like a bunch of jerks. Lucky’s does have a great patio, though. I’ve spent some nights out here with friends and had a good time chatting it up with some people we didn’t know. I usually do like the crowd that comes here. It’s still a lot of the campus crowd, but not the obnoxious people you’ll find at places like McFadden’s or Brother’s. This is kind of like a sports bar and it feels like it. There’s no dance floor, but sometimes they will have bands playing out on the patio in the summer. Although, I’ve never been too crazy about the bands here because most of them are cover bands that play top 40 «hits» from the late 90’s and early 00’s. The bathrooms are also pretty nice. They really aren’t that big, but every time I’ve been here they have been clean and stocked. The bar is overall pretty clean, and it’s a pleasant enough place. I guess it’s just not my first choice because of the location, so minus one star for that. Minus another for the rudeness of the staff. I also wish they had better prices and specials on other things besides buckets of beer. But if I have friends that want a night out at Lucky’s, I don’t mind coming along.

It’s not often I want to go to a bar around campus. I usually have to go at least as far as Ruby Tuesday’s if I want to drink and listen to music somewhere other than home. But Lucky’s Stout House is a jewel of a campus bar, and on the rare nights where the crowd is smaller and more intimate, it can be a jewel of a bar, period. With an on-demand jukebox that has tons of music to download and play, a pool table, a long bar and plenty of seating, Lucky’s is roomy without the feeling of some other cavernous campus bars that are designed to pack ‘em in. Lucky’s is charming, clean and well-laid out. The crowd can’t be beat, either: one night I watched as the majority of the patrons began mock step-dancing to an instrumental Irish tune someone put on the jukebox. It was jubilant, unplanned and beautiful, a feeling of camaraderie between strangers. The beer selection is hip-deep, with a full selection of liquor to punch it up a bit. If you get bored of the great tap selection, burrow into their insane bottle collection. I try to get something different every time, as I’ve never met a beer I can’t drink. And the service! I’ve never had a bad bartender at Lucky’s and I have the feeling I never will. Friendly, flirty(where appropriate) and knowledgeable, the crew works for their tips– and earns them. I will never say no to a stop at Lucky’s. Best bar on campus!

With the bastion of lowlife alcoholism that is the Bier Stube being just 10 feet away, it’s hard to imagine that a place precariously named Lucky’s would be much better. The patio is surrounded by a wrought iron fence to keep the bums out, and the neon sign in front looks like the owner bought if off eBay from an old Las Vegas casino that went bankrupt in 1975. Thankfully, Lucky’s is a downright awesome place to escape the manic scene that the Gateway area turns in to every night around 11. The import bottle selection is top of the line, with everything from Flying Dog to Grolsch to every kind of Arrogant Bastard Ale that’s available. Lucky’s frequently has domestic bucket specials as well, which is a welcome accompaniment for a night on the huge side patio the bar boasts. The scene here on a cool summer night is unbeatable by campus standards. With picnic tables, tiki torches, and a set of cornhole boards, you’ll feel like you’ve stumbled upon an outdoor cookout hosted by a close friend of the Brady Bunch. All Lucky’s is missing in this regard is the astroturf. For better or worse, there’s also free live music on stage outside on the busier nights of the week. If you’re looking for a place to get away from it all and revel in the energy of a hot summer night at OSU, Lucky’s is the place in the Gateway to do it.

I don’t want to knock this place TOO bad, because the bar scene just really isn’t my thing at all. If it was, though, I would be able to tolerate Lucky’s…I think. It’s okay because it seems like it would never get really packed, so you might be able to have a decent conversation(if you can hear yourself above the shitty cover band playing that Hootie song for the 9 millionth time). The staff was pretty lame. The asshole bouncer took away my half-empty beer, took the last one out from the bucket we had ordered, and put it in front of me. When I said, ‘What the hell are you doing?’ he replied, ‘You’ve got a whole other beer. Stop bitching.’ I was so surprised I didn’t really know what to say, and I thought maybe the Hootie distorted what he said. Still, what a dickhead! It also took the bartender about 20 minutes to stop flirting and taking shots with her boyfriend to get my drink. Basically…the bar has a dirty floor but there’s plenty of room to stand around. The owner gets smashed routinely and brings out a bottle of Jameson to pour down people’s throats while being egged on by the overly tipsy blond chick edging in on her mid 30’s. Cute, benign drunk girls sing along with the cover band to gain their 15 minutes of bar fame while ordinary joes stand by feening. But…it’s not that bad. I guess.
