Are you serious? Authentic? I grew up on these and they most certainly do not taste like grandma’s. It takes more than pressing your finger in dough and adding a jelly substance! No way will I be back. If you want the real stuff… head to Cleveland.

We love Kolache Republic, it is an absolute treat. Everything is delicious, the staff is always happy and eager to make our experience perfect, I love their baked beans cold and they always accommodate my odd request. The sloppy joe is probably my absolute favorite of the savories with the Bierock and the Reuben tying for next position but seriously you can’t go wrong! We always bring a potpourri of sweet Kolache home for a late night snack.

This unsuspecting little shop makes some of the best food in German Village. It’s not fancy, but it’s tasty as hell.

The only thing I don’t like about this place is the limited hours! You really have to plan in order to get a kolache! Other than that, this place is unique and delicious, with friendly staff. I had a sausage and cheese kolache as well as an apple one – both were amazing. A true Columbus gem, wish they had longer hours and a second location!

Have had most of the fruit flavors and the cheese. They are delicious. Service is quick and friendly. If you have never tried this place, you really should.

First stop in(finally!), and they were closed for the day. Second attempt? Score. Saturday afternoon, 1 pm. Obviously I had beat the morning rush(I was the only customer!), thus I was able to chat and order without rush. I love the inside, plain Jane, white and wood tones. It’s an open bakery, so patrons are welcome to see how the kolaches are made. It’s an order at the counter, take your plate, find a seat and gobble the sweet/savory Czech inspired pastries up kinda joint. I wanted one sweet and one savory, so I could engage as many tastebuds as possible. Their Sweet Cheese Kolache is the most popular, and traditional, sweet treat. I instead decided on one lemon poppyseed. Original Bierock for the savory. What the heck is in the Bierock? Ground meat, sauerkraut, onion, herbs and spices. You know, a whole lotta love! This puppy comes with their own made dipping sauce — a creamy dill/hints of horseradish concoction. Matches the meat and kraut, enhanced it well! It would be a huge bonus if this unique shop had the nutrition info for their offerings, but hey, I’m not gonna complain — these Czech gems are too good!

OMG. I just found my new favorite food. I would eat here every single day if I could! I’ve been a couple of times so far, and already have it in my head I’m getting it again this weekend smile emoticon This is hands down the tastiest breakfast food. It’s like a puffier version of a kings Hawaiian roll stuffed with whatever yumminess you want. I have tried the chorizo and egg, bacon and egg, and the Kielbasa. The chorizo and egg and bacon and egg are a little more filling than the kielbasa because they are stuffed with food. The kielbasa only has the sausage and cheese — you can add jalapenos to it if you want to spice it up. I think the kielbasa is my favorite though. It’s so spicy, and who doesn’t love kielbasa? Also, their coffee is great! So on top of everything tasting amazing, this place is so fast. They make the Kolache(Kolache’s? Idk. whatever, apparently there’s no «s» for the plural, but it sounds weird) ahead of time and heat them up real quick on the spot so all you have to do is pick which one you want and you’re done! They also have sweet ones, but since I don’t like sweets that’s not what brings me in. My boyfriend loved the chocolate one though and said they were amazing. If you haven’t been here or ever had Kolache before I highly recommend trying this. you will get addicted!

I’m insanely jealous of anyone that lives in close proximity to Kolache Republic. I’ve been meaning to come for awhile, and it completely lived up to all expectations I had for such a simple and to the point dish. There’s a few things on the menu here, but you’re obviously here for the kolache. The place is cheap, quick, and will easily fill you up with one or two of the European specialty. The girl taking the orders was pleasant, and I loved the open kitchen that allowed us to scope out how the pastries were made. The kolache are pre-made and heated up to order, so it takes all of a minute to be down at a table and eating. I honestly can’t speak to the authenticity or compare it to any past experiences, since I’m a first time kolach eater, but they were absolutely delicious. You can choose from a few savory and a few sweet kolache, and they usually have a different special each day. When I went, it was Jambalaya, which sounds amazing, but I went with a chorizo, egg, and jalapeño as well as kielbasa and cheese. Both were delicious, but the chorizo was my favorite. The pastry is so light and buttery, and they pack a ton of egg and chorizo into that bad boy, so you will get your money’s worth. So I lied, and I had a third kolach. A chocolate filled treat. It was amazing! If I’m swinging by randomly, I’d stop into to get one of the sweet kolache, because the chocolate filling was so delicious. The sweet ones are a bit smaller than the savory kolache. The space is small and cozy and has a great view right onto High St. If I lived anywhere near here, I’d be eating this every weekend. That’s probably a good thing considering the density of the dish, and I can only imagine how many calories each one is. They’re cheap and tasty though which is a deadly combination. If you can’t make it during the week, they are open on Saturdays from 8 — 2 pm, so you’re in luck. I encourage anyone who hasn’t been down here, or who has never had a kolach, to come check them out.

Many others have noted the excellent breakfast options, so I won’t take up space being redundant, as it is indeed terriffic. I find that where Kolache Republic really shines is their daily lunch specials. You never know what you’re going to get, from bourban bbq chicken kolaches, to jalapeño cheeseburger kolaches, to the jambalaya kolache with their special hot sauce, but I am continually impressed with every one! When you order the lunch special, you know that what you are getting was made in house that day, and it is accompanied by a special sauce also made in house. I’ve loved every single one, and the anticipation of a suprise savory lunch keeps me coming back for more!

The food is great and is really moderately priced. Coffee is slightly above average. It is perfect for quick, 15 minute breakfast meetings but not a good place to camp our for a morning and get some work done. The staff was friendly enough but when I was I there shortly after opening half of the employees smelled like weed, which might have made them make better kolaches, this was not very of putting my me, though I do not smoke myself, but if it would be for you maybe the Albers next door would be a good option. It encompasses the grungy yet clean, neat and orderly attitude that is Columbus. Well done guys, I will be back.

Oh-em-gee, this place is fabulous! I visited here on a food tour and while I’ve never heard of kolaches, I’m officially a fan for life. These guys know what they’re doing. I tried the bacon, egg and cheese breakfast kolache and also the lemon curd kolache. Seriously folks, I wish I could do the flavors justice worth my description. The pastry dough itself is light, with a hint of sweetness; this, combined with fluffy egg and well-seasoned bacon, was the perfect balance of flavors. The lemon curd kolache was equally pleasing: the lightly sweet dough topped with a slightly tart lemon curd was sweet without being sickeningly sweet. The owners are really cool guys with a passion for what they do. I will definitely return when I’m in the Columbus area again. Check them out and support a great local business.

I haven’t stopped in for the lunch so I can’t comment as to that but the kolache is delicious. The space is small but very clean and quiet. The coffee is on point and they have a wide variety of kolache for you to try. The staff is a group of guys who seem like they would be fun to hang out with. They’re very happy and put in a lot of effort to making their patrons feel at home. I hope to stop in again soon for lunch.

If you’re going to Panera next door… why?!? This place has such fresh food at great prices! You could easily get out of here for $ 5-$ 6/person! I had their chorizo, egg and Jack special with a sweet cheese Kolache and coffee. They are pretty large portions and you can probably save some for later. The Kolache was so tasty and moist! They are super quick and friendly and if you haven’t been here, then you need to at least try it! It’s a small place. I’d say To Go is probably the best decision, but you have multiple places to walk to while you’re enjoying your goodies! I’ll be back with friends(:

I never had Kolaches before, but I had always wanted to try. I had long counted Columbus out on this, for I thought no one served it here, until one day I passed this place on High Street at the edge of the GV. I had it bookmarked for nearly a year. It is hard to judge the quality of thing you had never experienced before, especially a regional dish like this, when the more knowing and knee-jerk defenders of their regions taste may snarl at what may be a thin facsimile of the authentic formula, but for this virgin tongue it was fantastic. Kolache if you are unfamiliar, are stuffed buns filled with meat, eggs, potatoes, ect. Some are treats full of sweet filling. They are big in Texas where they function as a breakfast meal. I choose eggs, sausage, and cheese as it was brunch time and I hungered for such a combo. The buttery bun adds a unique taste to the hot filling. The eggs are scrambled of course, but are smooth and held the various flavors a well cooked scramble should have; the sausage was excellently done, powerful and moderately spicy as quality everyday sausage must be. The Kolache are pre-made and heated up before serving. I figured this would lack some taste, but I couldn’t tell if it did. It was just as good as freshly made eggs and sausage. The coffee is strong and actually beats other breakfast shop brews in my opinion. The shop is small but immaculate, the staff friendly. Outside eating is available. I give it five stars as a nice breakfast place and the delicious Kolache, but note my inexperience above.

PRETTY great food. The blueberry sweet cream was nice, not overly sweet. Kielbasa jalapeño cheese kolache was good but I’d like a little more jalapeño/cheese to it. Maybe more evenly spread rather than so lop sided. Tasty and cheap though. Would recommend to people through. Saw they had a sloop joe special. Sounded like the would be real tasty in their doughy piece.

Swung by this morning to pick up lunch. Uh, this a tactical error on my part, as the wonderful smell of that baked bread kept me hungry the entire morning! But, in case you need to know — I ad the Southwestern egg kolache and when lunch came around, both the filling and the bread were just as perfectly made as they’d been when I left the store. Not soggy or chewy(or worse), but simply room temperature. And that, my friends, is the mark of a great bakery. (In the interest of honesty: I did break down and eat half of my chocolate kolache before lunch. Because chocolate kolache.)

Rick and Justin are SUPER friendly, awesome owners. :) They gave us milk even though it isn’t on the menu and FREE kolaches for the road and chatted with us for awhile. Had an apple and sweet cheese kolache. It’s kind of like a dinner roll with a topping. The sweet cheese one was great — tasted like cheesecake! It’s so fun to try something new from a different part of the world!

We fell in love with kolaches after a recent visit to Texas where Kolache stores are everywhere. Karina Nova had visited the Kolache Republic during a segment on 10tv called«breakfast with Nick.» We made a special trip downtown to check this place out and we were not disappointed. We ordered 2 sausage egg and cheese Kolaches from the savory menu 1 Almond Kolache from the sweet menu 2 large coffees Total was $ 12.74 The coffee was Costa Rican blend from Café Brioso — which is a local coffee shop that we want to visit as well. The coffee was delicious and was brewed just right. We are picky about coffee and this was done just perfectly. Excellent job. The Kolaches were easily two times bigger than the ones we bought in Texas. Very fresh and tasty. Perfect blend of ingredients. Service The customer service was top notch and they cared about their customers. We felt welcomed. The store was clean and inviting. There is plenty of street parking and no meters. I highly recommend going here and hope that some day one will open up in Polaris so we don’t have to drive so far, but it’s worth the drive.
