I plan on giving this place another chance, but for now, it’s just sort of okay for me. There’s a ton of mom and pop pizza joints surrounding my work, so that means there’s plenty of places to grab an Italian sub. My search for the best sandwiches around here brought me to Joe’s Pizza, which I hadn’t even noticed was there even though I’ve passed it several times. It’s in a small strip mall on Broad that’s really hard to see from the street. I called ahead to place a take out order, since it didn’t look like there’s anywhere to sit in the place(there’s two small tables but not really for eating), and it was only going to take about 10 minutes. I had ordered extra meat and cheese, and it was only going to cost me about $ 7.25. First issue when I get there is the girl at the front forgot she was baking my sub. Whoops, does it smell like burning in here? Oh well, they threw together another one for me that only took about 5 minutes to make and didn’t charge me for the extra meat and cheese. I appreciate that. I think my biggest mistake was getting extra meat, because it was almost too much. I wasn’t sure how big the sandwich would be, but I should have known, since they use Auddino’s bread. Points for quality bread. Unfortunately, there wasn’t much flavor in the dressing to break up the massive amount of meat I had on there. Also, in the 5 minutes it took me to get back to work, the dressing had managed to cut through the bread, making it super soggy. As I said, I’m going to give them another chance, since maybe I just put too much meat on the thing. In a pinch, this is a quick place to get a sandwich that’s better than your chain joints, but it’s not my first pick. I hear the pizza’s pretty good too, so I’ll have to give that a shot some time.

So I got to try Joe’s Pizza last weekend because I was in an 8 hour class so one of the instructor’s got us this for lunch. For pizza it was alright. Although I do have to admit I felt so bad for the other instructor who was a gluten-free/dairy free person. She was so hungry and this is all they had so she had to take off all the cheese and just eat the toppings. I do feel her pain though because I once was a gluten free person and it was very hard to find food like this before it became so popular. I do wish the crust was not thin crust because I grew up loving thick crust pizza. I just feel the thin crust makes it more messy. Although if this is all you have an option of eating when you are in an 8 hour class you can’t complain. I’ve never had an instructor in my entire college career buy me food because they felt bad for us. So kuddos to him and thanks for letting me try it.

Took the pick-up route for dinner last night. A couple of pizzas and a chicken parm sub to share. The sub was pretty good. A little sloppy but I’ll blame that bring it home. The pizza was good for thin crust style. I prefer thicker crust so this isn’t Joe’s fault just the style they use.

Joe’s pizza is Tommy’s no more no less. One of the best Italian subs out there by the way.

This obviously isn’t artisan pizza, but it’s actually one of my area favorites! Here I was, dying of hunger late one recent Sunday night in Bexley, and all of my regular go-to joints were closed.(It wasn’t 2am or anything, but rather, after 9pm.) While everyone was cozy in their homes on a Sunday night — it is Bexley after all — the folks at Joe’s were still hard at work preparing pies! I can’t attest to the delivery process(*note: delivery is only available after 4:00 pm), but within 10 minutes of my drive-up visit, I left with a piping hot pizza in hand. So hot in fact I couldn’t keep it on my lap. For a large with multiple toppings(we had 3) it was $ 14.50. Not bad at all! Once home, it took all of my will power to not consume more than half the pizza alone.(Don’t worry though, I wasn’t alone so ordering an entire large pizza isn’t as bad as it sounds.) The pepperoni was crispy, as was the crust, and while I prefer slices, not squares, every inch of the pizza tasted as good as the last. If you’re curious — here’s a little history for ya: Joe’s used to be known as Tommy’s Pizza(the owner’s godfather) and the address was 2768 E 5th Ave. Then in ’95 the location moved to this location. The owner(Joe) wanted to distinguish himself as the sole owner so he changed the name to Joe’s Pizza in 2010 but kept the recipe the same. … and now you know.

I think this was a pretty darn good pizza, but it’s just not up there with Bexley Pizza Plus. It’s hard to grade, because the pizzas are very different. I’d eat here again if the hubby wanted to have it, but I prefer BPP. We got a sausage mushroom and pepperoni pizza. Good amounts of all meats(Really??? How can you have TOOMUCH pepperoni? I couldn’t believe it when I read that review.) as well as mushrooms. The crust is a thin crust, not quite cracker thin, but thin. Almost cracker thin. Sauce was tasty and not too sweet. Service was quick and efficient, if not exactly cordial.

A large pepperoni pizza was $ 13.50 and they put waaaaaay too much pepperoni on it. It was literally piled on in clumps and I had to pick off half of it. The staff was very nice in the store when I picked it up. I MIGHT give it a second chance, but next time I’ll have to give them very explicit instructions on what NOT to do.

One of the best pizza joints in the city! Whenever I’m in town from ATL Joe’s pizza is always one of my first stops for food.

Been going to Tommy’s for years; 5th Avenue, Hamilton Road, Broad Street. Tommy’s on Broad is now Joe’s. Same owner same everything, new name. Something about a conflict when some of the restaurants were sold and recipes were cheapened up. Joe didn’t want to do that, so he changed the name. The subs are really tops. They have been toasting the bread and meat forever, and then they add the toppings. These have to be one of the best subs in town. Especially the vegetarian. The pies are equally good. They have a very pronounced garlic flavor, cheese is plentiful,; crust is on the medium thin side. Not like Rubinos but thin. You won’t be disappointed, They could put more toppings on like Massey’s does, but no real complaint. Italian salad is great as well. They have one table I believe, so this is take out only. This review is for this location only, as I’m not sure the ownership of the others.
