Loved their chicken… went to church’s chicken first… then saw the sign across the street for $ 1.29 at Buckeye Express for the 2pc. Leg n thigh… I tell ya, they put churches to shame

The catfish, seemed decent. Wondering if it was Swai. Hoping it was at least farm raised and not Chinese… Who the f** am I kidding, this place was at the corner of Cleveland Avenue and Fifth Avenue. Ain’t no way they are serving anything high end. Does that matter? Hells no. The Catfish was great, almost a lemon pepper taste to it. Also had some ‘hot’ chicken, but it wasn’t hot at all. Y’all need to learn about some hot chicken son! Just because I am white don’t mean I need to be culinarily profiled! It’s cool, the service was friendly, quick and polite. They even had a cute sign for employees that said«No Sagging Pants». Mac and Cheese was crap, but that’s what happens when you order such sides at 10pm.

It had been a very long time since I’d been to this area. There use to be a Popeye’s Fried Chicken in the location now housing BUCKEYEEXPRESS. FOOD = 4 Stars LOCATION = I live in the inner city and it doesn’t bother me at all. Tuesday = leg and thigh, &1.29 They have gizzards and livers. We ordered food to go… prices were way less than they would be in another neighborhood for FINEQUALITYFRESHFOOD! Chicken(large cuts) comes mild and spicy… spicy needs to have the heart amped up to be called spicy. Mashed potatoes… folks they used real potatoes and whipped them… I liked my lumps… homemade gravy. They allowed med samples… the Collard Greens were true country flavor. Definitely worth the drive to the Cleveland Avenue/5th Avenue intersection. Crew working were attentive and pleasant. Not sure I’d eat in but I’d sure drive back amd load up for Picnic situations… Great find! Fresh, flavorful and portioned food!

I’m 6 months pregnant and perhaps slightly anemic. My food cravings are out of control right now. I’ve been looking for a place that sold liver and onions, British style. This place does fried livers which is good enough. A small(which was more than substantial for me) runs $ 3.99. It was very salty(raised my blood pressure and gave me a headache) but it curbed the craving.

The chicken district is alive with the buzz of a new locally owned shack opening up. It’s true, rejoice! For Buckeye Chicken and Fish has staked claim to the southeast corner of Cleveland &5th! I stopped in here as I attended a homebrew club meeting across the street at north high brewing company’s new production warehouse. Was in the mood for fish, so I got the two piece perch dinner, which included two sides & cornbread. Cornbread was good, not grainy or dry. Mac & cheese was creamy and made with spiral mac(my favorite). Yams were decent, sweet and mashed. The perch was fantastic, nice crunchy breading with a hot soft center. What made it five stars? friggin hawaiin punch in the soda machine. Solid contender for top place of the chicken district, and locally owned to boot. Loosen your belt buckle and stop by!
