I’ve never written a poor restaurant review because I prefer to discuss any problems with the restaurant but after this experience I had to say something. If I could give 0 Stars, I would, just based on the attrocious service, which might have been the worst I have ever received in a restaurant. I had a reservation and yet more than an hour and a half passed and we still didn’t have our food. Not to mention, we were only checked on/brought water once by a server during that entire time. Before leaving, we asked 3 times if our food was ready, each time the response was 5 – 10 more minutes, yet the food never came. Don’t waste your time with this place like I did.

The food is absolutely amazing but its sloppy operation leaves something to be desired. The wait for the food was over an hour with no one coming to check on us.

Saw on triple d. The food was pretty good, a lot of flavor. Service was an absolute joke though. Probably the worst I’ve ever had and I’m not exaggerating. We were actually the only diners in the restaurant and it took an hour to be served our entrees. My wife actually had to yell across the dining room to get some water at one point. If you’re visiting I would def try something else. Decent food not worth the horrid service.

Island time in Colorado. What’s not to like? Everything was great. The Jerk chicken will bring us back within a week. A foodie pit stop in COS. Über nice people here!

We love Spice Island! The chicken curry is amazing and I could eat their plantains everyday. A lot of Americans think the service is slow… but if you have ever been to the Caribbean you’ll know thats how it is. They prefer you to have a long, relaxing meal. They are always so sweet and I love feeling like Im somewhere tropical– even if its just for an hour. So glad this place is here!

Yummy. I took a five year old there today and he loved the bbq chicken. I had the jerk chicken and it really was a good dish. The price was great for a dish and two sides. I think everyone should try this place. You will love it.

My friend and I came here for there Diners, Drive-ins and Dives viewing party and we were very disappointed. The food for the most part was bland and the service was terrible and everybody was very disorganized. Not once did a waitress come to our table and ask us if we wanted something to drink and the price for the buffet was $ 15 dollars. Unfortunately I will not be returning and I hope my fellow followers will not either. The only positive note I can add is that the chicken was good and had the right amount of spice.

Yummy yummy food! Great staff — -friends and I went there for lunch. The Jerk Chicken was delightful and the Tofu Stew was amazing. Go to this cute little hole in the wall before they get famous! They will be featured in Diners, Dives and Drive-Ins this coming Jan 1!

Walk through the doors of this restaurant & you’re immersed into the JA culture. There’s the soca & old time tunes playing, the Jamaican figurines and art, the seating style, the smell of the pots coming from the kitchen & the true Caribbean welcome. I was born & raised in JA so moving to CO after immigrating to NYC(hubby is originally from here) made me aware there really isn’t a plethora of Caribbean eateries or culture out here. We decided to check this place out as we are big foodies(& I surely wasn’t cooking dinner tonight). A great selection of JA sodas and imported product(hence why a ting is $ 3.50, the supply & demand of imported goods). We had plantains & beef patty for appetizers. The patties were fluffy and although I would’ve preferred mine spicier, it was tasty. Hubby got the curry goat & I had the oxtail lunch. Let me say we have had an odd experience with ordering curry goat in CO. Lol this was real goat meat, mutton to be exact. The oxtail was very tender and well seasoned. Tasted just as good as when I prepare it at home ;) meals come with a side and you may add more sides a la carte. For dessert we tried the black cake /rum cake. Very moist and not toooo much rum, if we weren’t driving this would be a bad thing lol. I also had the sorrel. I prefer my Sorrel to be a bit thicker & although it wasn’t bad here I think a little less ice & more drink would’ve done the trick. We got a chance to speak with the owner Ms. Claudette who gave me some recommendations for Caribbean grocers in Denver. The lunch menu is a good pricing for the portions received. The restaurant also offers a 15% military discount as the owner is retired Air Force(HOORAH). A good way to end our NYE afternoon after visiting Garden of The Gods. We don’t make it out to the Springs much, but the next time we’ll definitely be back!

I enjoyed my 1st Jerk Chicken in Jamaica — delicious blend of peppers, cinnamon, cloves and other spices. At Spice Island Grill, I’m able to relieve that experience. Their food is authentic, made with love & served with family friendliness. They have awesome live music too!

Was very excited to try this restaurant as I was in the mood for some Caribbean food flavor and atmosphere, walked in on a Sunday afternoon and there wasn’t a soul in the place, the sign and web site said open but no one even came out the greet us, even after I yelled hello and rang the bell again on the front door. Not a good first impression but I guess we need to try again on a Friday night, perhaps then, someone will be there, if not well that says it all–«out to lunch!»

Let me begin by saying I didn’t eat anything here. We were seated but ended up being turned off by the strange prices on the happy hour menu and the regular menu so we left. The server seemed very nice, so I have nothing against the service, but man get your pricing together. We decided to check this place out because of the decent reviews on line and the fact we were craving some jerk chicken, but realized real fast why this restaurant does not list their prices on their website. $ 20 for a Sampler Platter?! A regular sized appetizer runs from $ 6 – 8 on the menu. Why would the sampler of 3 cost $ 20? That makes no sense. A glass of their low end liquor store wine is $ 6.75 a glass. The only happy hour special is $ 2 off their house cocktails which range between $ 8 and $ 11. This restaurant charges as if they are a higher end place, but really it is just an average place by the looks of it. We left because we felt that if we ate here and spent what they were asking, we’d be taken advantage of. I won’t give this place one star because I haven’t had the whole experience and eaten their food, but I can’t imagine even the best Jamaican restaurant in a place like this to charge these prices and expect to get away with it.

Spice Island Grill is located in a quirky building with interior décor that followed suit. I ordered the curry chicken and thought it was delicious. The jerk chicken my boyfriend ordered was also really good. There were interesting sides to choose from and I enjoyed everything I tried. We would have ordered some dessert, but it seemed as though half of the dessert menu was unavailable. Service was slow and our waitress was really awkward. It was quite some time before our food was served to us. I would have liked to have seen cheaper prices for the portions served, but it was good, flavorful food, so I can’t complain too much. (Side note: Anyone else notice that the photo the owner of the restaurant is using to reply to customers here on Unilocal is a stock photo? Kinda’ odd.)

The restaurant was closed for an event. Understandable enough, but they were taking carry out orders. Fantastic! I’ll use my groupon. Cancel that. They took away the ability to done in and would not take the groupon because it was dine in only. Absolutely ridiculous. Used to love this place, thought they cared about the customers but apparently that isn’t the case.

If you want service, do not come here. We went Friday the 3rd of April at about 12:45 pm. Resteraunt was fairly empty with plenty of tables available. Waited over 10 minutes to even be acknowledged to be seated. Once seated we waited over 15 minutes and no one ever came to ask what we wanted or even gave water. We could see the two waitresses talking with others and avoiding coming to our table totally. Seemed they were not interested in us as customers. Will also share our experience with our fellow workers, as well. We were never served and finally walked out. I am giving one Star for this reason. Can’t rate the food since I was never offered any.

I was really disappointed. We got the Groupon for a night out, and read some mixed reviews. The food was so spicy it made my mouth hurt, which was made worse by our waitress forgetting to bring drinks until we had stopped her to remind her… twice. They dont serve water for some reason. The food took a long time to arrive, small portion sizes, and our waitress hovered us while we were giving her tip. Probably the only time she was attentive our entire stay! I really wanted to like this place because its local and the building is so cool but we wont go back.

There are hardly words other than ABSOLUTELYAMAZING. The food is authentic, so be prepared for a ‘kick’ when stuffing your face with the jerk(anything). The service is a little slow but you feel like family when you’re here… would you get angry with grandma for being too slow? No. Have grace with them, it is worth it. Awesome cocktails, awesome portions, awesome food, awesome staff, awesome music, awesome ambiance. Need I say more?

No Pineapple Upside Down Cake? Again? That stuff is like unicorns. It must be magical. It’s on the menu, but I’m beginning to think it may not actually exist. I like stopping in Spice Island Grill for lunch, especially on Fridays when the buffet features plantains AND festival bread AND tilapia. The jerk is nice and spicy with some heat and the curry chicken is tender and perfect with the rice and beans. We aren’t talking Super Chinese American MeccaBuffet here; there are maybe 4 total buffet pans and 8 dishes to pick from. Still, everything tastes homemade and the second time you hit the buffet line, you start feeling like you’re eating at a house party hosted by some really generous Jamaican neighbors.
