Cool art supply shop in downtown Colorado Springs. I’m not a full on artist, so I can’t tell you what everything is in their store, but it is definitely well outfitted. The staff is very accommodating, and will even give you advice on products if you aren’t quite sure what to pick. Prices seem very reasonable, none of that Hobby Lobby 50% off all the time marketing.

As I was checking out with my credit card the clerk said, «it might be linked to someone’s bank account, but not yours!» As if somehow alluding to the fact I don’t pay my own bills. I do. Don’t judge me because I’m a young adult. Wonderful selection. Unfortunately they don’t sell sets of tube watercolors which was a bummer since I’m just beginning to work with watercolors, but it’s fine. Just wish they were nicer and not so judgmental just because I’m a twenty-something.

I went in looking for a simple sketchbook to take hiking, and found the best little watercolor kit ever… And more supplies for some other«back of my mind» projects. It turned into a visit of inspiration! The staff was helpful, friendly, and this store is now My favorite stop when I go downtown!!!

I had a fine experience on my first trip to Meininger. I found some items I needed and could use. Their paint selection is unmatched(Golden acrylics FTW). I was disappointed with their woodcarving tools. Poor selection at best. I did find an overkill of dry-etch tools. Go figure. The entire print section is shoddily kept and needs some major attention. «Boo, Wendy Testaberger, booo…» They have every canvass and paint you could ever need. If you love Golden paints, look no further than their massive on-hand selection. It was overwhelming. I just had to walk away because the selection was beyond reason. Great selection of papers. Fantastic. Superlative. I will shop here again merely to buy copious print papers. Score. Check this place out.

I had heard of this art store ever since I moved here and I finally made the trip downtown to check it out. I stood behind 1 person in line so I could ask if they carry butane torches. I waited and waited, trying to catch the eye of the checkout lady who ignored me. Then the checkout lady told the person ahead of me to move to another register. They walked off without a word to me, leaving me standing there. Since I had entered thru the front door and walked directly to the checkout area, they really should have noticed me and assumed I needed to ask a question. Finally, 1 of 2 ladies sitting at desks behind the checkout lane came up and asked me if I was trying to checkout. I asked her if they sell butane torches and she seemed surprised, like she had never heard of someone wanting that(used in jewelry making and encaustics). She said no. Since I had driven all the way out there for this 1 item, thinking it was some great art store that would definitely stock it, I was really bummed. I don’t know how this place stays in business… you can buy art supplies much cheaper and easier online, which is what I had to do to, and you can get friendlier service at any Michaels or Hobby Lobby.

The reviews on this place are up and down. I think it is highly dependent on the person that you get/meet. Overall, I would like to see more consistent service. On my last visit, I had a very good experience with a young man(curly haired guy(sorry, bad with names)) that was very passionate about art and was very helpful. Steered me toward basic, good-value products vs. the top of the line stuff. I was getting starter pencil drawing supplies for my daughter. I have been in here before where it was a bit of a challenge to find someone to help. Meinenger, if you are listening, please get more consistent customer service. We have few art supplies places in the springs and I would prefer to go local vs. online. Ultimately, people will walk with their pocketbooks if they don’t value coming in your store.

It was a breath of fresh air to find an art store such as this. They had a wide selection of art materials that could be catered to almost any style. Wish they would sell drawing/drafting tables :) been looking for a good one lately. Huge selection of portfolios, sketchbooks, paint and brushes. Even had a decent section in tutorial books and what not. Prices were fair for the most part and staff seemed very eager to help; some people like that… I felt almost rushed though… I can’t help it, I love taking my time looking at everything they had so I couldn’t really blame them. They were probably worried that I was lost :))
