This place is great! It is family owned and the family is super nice. Food is great and the prices are low. We go there every couple weeks now.

BESTPORKSTEAKAROUND! Locally owned and operated for as long as I can remember. Husband and wife run this place and they’re wonderful people.

STOP! If your planning to eat here, stop! Take my advice and go 1 mile up the road to bandanas bbq or any where else for that matter! This is not bbq! Just because you throw bbq sauce on something doesn’t make it bbq! I just ordered the full slab of ribs with potato salad and their green chile, I could barely cut the meat off the bone with a knife. When I say meat I use that term very lightly as they’re 90 percent fat and gristle! The green chili was absolutely disgusting, green was the right description for it just not the good kind of green. And the potato salad was so obviously store bought and disgusting too. I’ve eaten bbq all over this country and I have to say this was honestly one of the worst. I spent 25 dollars on my meal, I had to pull 2 bites of meat off the ribs with my hands, took 1 bite each of the potato salad and chili and that was all I could stand, the whole meal went straight in the garbage, so ridiculous!!! I would be ashamed to serve that! Honestly people please go somewhere else.

This is an authentic owner operator business with genuine St Louis-Kansas city style barbecue. The prices are right and the service is friendly. I highly recommend it.

Not good at all. Ordered the pulled chicken sandwich –hair on pickles — chicken was tough — only one type of bbq sauce? I’m pretty sure it was no where near fresh whole meal tasted stale and microwaved.

Just awful is the only way I can describe this place. First of all it is not a pit barbecue spot. There was a mechanical smoker as I was walking in the place that’s not a pit barbecue. But that would’ve been fine if they knew how to barbecue. However they do not know how to barbecue. I ordered the chicken sandwich. This chicken sandwich was the driest chicken meat I’ve ever gotten anywhere. Awful just awful is the only way to describe my experience here. The place is ran down and my entrée was so bad I don’t even remember what the sides were. So my advice is don’t go. And I would suggest the people that run this place cleaned it up and learn how to smoke meat. Then maybe you would have one more the customerin the middle of the day.

A hidden gem! The location and ambience leave something to be desired, and it is a little pricey, but the food is incredible. Probably the most underrated place in town.

Visited on the way out of St. Louis and was really craving BBQ! Food was a little pricey, but that’s how most BBQ is. I ordered a Brisket sandwhich with Mac N Cheese and Cole Slaw. The mac n cheese was to die for! It was great. The brisket was pretty dry but good nonetheless. Their rolls were really great too. Try their spicy sauce, it was the best thing there!

Excellent sides, all home made. Baked beans are the best. Home made yeast rolls too. Once in a while we get a rather dry pork steak but they have replaced it when we said something. Atmosphere is nothing fancy but it’s clean and the porch is nice in good weather. They have local Ski products for sodas. They have a frequent buyer program.

A friend suggested I check it out as there’s an abundance of chains nearby but I try to eat at local places whenever I can. It’s a hole in the wall type BBQ place with a focused menu and short on frills. I had a pulled pork sandwich with chips(had no sides so any comment on those) and it was very good. The woman working behind the counter that day asked if I wanted the sandwich sauced or unsauced(sauced) and also let me know about their hot sauce. It’s a good quick place I’ll go to again next time I’m through the area.

I’ve driven by here a lot, and I rarely see anyone eating here. But, I love BBQ, so I thought I’d give it a try. When I got in the door, my first impression was how outdated the décor was. It didn’t look dirty, but it didn’t look clean either. I got a pork steak plate with potato salad and homemade slaw. The potato salad was average. I’m still not sure if it was homemade as well, or if it is bought in. The slaw was a vinegar slaw, and was amazing! Some of the best vinegar slaw I’ve ever had. The pork steak was smothered in a homemade BBQ sauce. I’ve had pork steaks that were more tender, but it wasn’t dry by any means. It was really thick with not a lot of fat. Both the steak and the sauce that was on it had wonderful flavor. This isn’t the best BBQ I’ve ever had, but it is certainly a place I’d recommend and will be eating at again!

Pretty good pork steak. Not quite as tender as the one from bully’s(but theyre out of business now) and it was a few bucks cheaper than theirs. But it was still pretty doggone tender. You didn’t even need teeth much less a fork for the bully’s pork steak. This one wasn’t quite that good but still well worth the $ 9. Hate to keep mentioning another restaurant but I judge everything in relation to the best I’ve ever had. Five stars if it was a bit more tender. Oh, an the sauce pretty good. I’m just happy there’s a place that you can buy a pork steak smothered in BBQ sauce in this age of «we smoke it and you squirt said in it». That ain’t BBQ. Biggest downer was the mostly mud parking lot. Seriously. They’ve been there for some years now. How about some asphalt?

My fiancé and I stopped on our way back to Cincinnati. We wanted something quick for takeout but also something local. This place fit the bill. Great BBQ and slaw. They are very dog friendly. They smoke pig snouts and she gave each of our dogs one. If you are looking for a dive that has good BBQ and reasonable prices that is also not a chain this place is it :).

Their food was horrible. Pulled pork sandwich was disgusting. I tried this place twice to give it another chance, but it was the same story. I will never go back.

Wow, where do I start… ambience is a plus along with the smoke wafting through. Well if you don’t know by now, ordered the pulled pork(sorry I can’t help myself) with beans and slaw. The meat comes doused in a house sauce that’s hard to describe. However, my young nephew hit the nail on the head with«sloppy joe». The slaw looked to be vinegar base, but had a sweet aftertaste, didn’t mind it and the beans were okay. Don’t know, if it warrant a return trip.

Great BBQ and great people. The owners are very friendly and accommodating every time you go there. The pork steak is great but you had better be hungry. It is HUGE.

I agree with Keith B’ review. The Smoke Pit is a dive… but the BBQ was outstanding. Two good combinations in my book. I had the pulled pork and potato salad. It tasted great and was reasonably priced. Soda refills are free so that was a plus. I would go back.

This place was delicious. It’s a hole in the wall place and if you blink, you’ll miss it. But when it comes to BBQ I always look for the«Hole in the wall» kinda places. Everything was very good. You gotta try the slaw! It was great. Also the pulled pork sandwich was nice and saucy, juicy, and tender. The tri-fecta that I look for in my BBQ sandwich. Would highly recommend Smoke Pit. Nice people run the joint too which is great also.
