As I walked from my car to my porch someone behind me bellowed my name. I turned as the uniformed woman handed me official papers. The divorce arrived. Angry and confused I jumped in the car searching for answers. I drove to College Park, stopped the car and ran to the door. As I began to pound, I noticed no lights on inside. No furniture. No forwarding address. No phone call good-bye. Chicken Rico closed for business. Very ungood!

It’s ok, nothing to rave about. Their chicken and sauces are good but they definitely need to get better sides. Price was $ 5.25 for a quarter meal with 2 sides IIRC. Plantains, the only one worth getting, will cost you extra.

A fine pollo a la brasa from a straightforward, no-frills chicken spot. The beans are fantastic; the fried rice is fatalicious and $ 6.04 w/tax for ¼ + 2 sides and drink is a value, which in these trying times is good to find. Maybe not as fancy, or quite as tasty, as that oo-la-la Sardi’s up the way, but if you are near UMD without a car, worth a stop in.

My boyfriend and I love this place! We found it about 3 months ago on a trip to College Park and will find any excuse to go there to eat at Chicken Rico. I am somewhat new to Peruvian food, but have tried Inti in Dupont Circle and El Chalan in Foggy Bottom and I would argue Chicken Rico is as good as these more pricey options. For $ 6 you get a quarter chicken, 2 sides and a soda. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a good meal for very good value.

Very good — their steak & chicken burritos are better than the chicken alone as a meal though. Subs are also really, really tasty. They have yuca fries, plantains, and french fries as well. Prices are also a boon. Less than $ 6 for a burrito as large as Chipotle’s and it comes with a hefty serving of fries. I’m glad this place opened and I hope they pick up some more regular clientele.

Yummy! Its pretty good considering there aren’t many peruvian places nearby. It tastes more authentic than other«peruvian» places up the road near Ikea.

FINALLY Peruvian Chicken close to home — where I feel safe going… I was very excited to see the new addition to Route 1 — and couldn’t wait to try it out. Ventured in last night at 9:00 — not sure what to expect at such a late dinner hour. I got the #1 Special — ¼ Chicken w/2 sides — French Fries and Plantains. MmmmMmmMmm! The chicken was nice and moist even at 9pm! The plantains were freshly fried so they were not mushy — and were very good! I had a few friends pick at my left overs and they were instantly fans! I will definitely be back!

The last time I checked Rico in Spanish translates to Delicious. All I have to say is the Chicken as well as everything else I tried was far from Rico. … IMO They need to change the name to Chicken No Bueno or Chicken No Sabroso. I was driving by UMD and noticed a new Peruvian Chicken place near SSS called Chicken Rico. At first I got real excited because I love Peruvian Chicken and with a name like Chicken Rico I was expecting the Chicken to taste like my old favorite El Pollo Rico. Parking sucks but I went in around 5 pm and I ordered 1 hole chicken 4 sides: Fried rice, rice and beans, mashed potatoes, coleslaw. The chicken was heavily seasoned mostly with black pepper and the skin was soft. The chicken was moist but the seasoning did not penetrate into the meat like El Pollo Rico or Sardi’s(down the road). The chicken was much better than the sides. 2 of my sides were just terrible. The fried rice was aw full didn’t taste good and the beans had a distinct cumin flavor to them. I’ve had better beans out of a can. The mashed potatoes were OK and the coleslaw was the same as most chicken places. The green sauce had good flavour and yellow sauce was excellent. The prices seem fare $ 4.99 for ¼ meal, $ 7.25 for ½ meal and $ 13.95 for 1 Chicken meal. They nickel and dime you if you ask for extra sauce and pass on fees if you pay by credit card.(they charge you extra .35 cents or something.) If your looking for Peruvian Chicken Sardi’s about a mile and a half up route 1 is a much better alternative, or if your just hungry you can’t go wrong with the Gyros at Marathon Deli or anything at China Café.
