Backyard Sports Grill

Our family stopped by for a quick bite to eat and the food was great! I had the shrimp & grits — should have ordered two because it was fantastic and wanted leftovers to take home but my plate was clean. We got our three year old the blackened chicken fettuccine — ate it all up. My husband ordered the fish tacos — another favorite! We now have a favorite spot to visit in College Park!

I had the misfortune of coming here during umd homecoming when all other bars were overcrowded. All was fine and well until I went to close my tab. I had seen one of the female bartenders drinking on a few occasions and thought that was odd. I asked a bartender to close my tab and he said he did not know how to do that and then my girlfriend asked him to do the same. 10 minutes had passed and nothing happened so I asked this bartender what was the issue. She preceded to yell at me saying the place was crowded after I had patiently waited and threatened to kick me for no good reason. She was clearly intoxicated and continued to yell at me. Finally she closed my tab and had to make sure did not over charge me. Safe to say I’ll will be never reentering this establishment again due to the unprofessional and childish staff

I’ve been wanting to try out this place since it opened, and I was terribly let down. I went at a time when I expected there to be a good crowd and music on a Saturday night at 10pm only to be the only group there (3 people). Because I frequently came to the previous establishment I had high hopes for the food. Everything that was ordered was nearly unbearable. The shrimp tacos tasted burnt and the shrimp were cold as if they never touched a stove. The Caribbean wings were so bad my friend couldn’t even keep them and immediately sent them back. And the bacon burger didn’t taste «right» as if the meat wasn’t good. Needless to say there was nothing good enough to bring me back.

The bar tenders were absolutely beautiful and gave great conversation even though our jack and cokes we ordered extra shots for because they were lacking jack!

The dj was almost an hour late and thought he was the best in the world! No sir! Update his status plz!
Me and my roommate smoked our first Newport with almost a $ 50 tab! They trusted us which was nice but they shouldn’t with no card for the tab! We’re from Georgia so honesty is just something like a law for us! We payed our tab when we sat down again!
It was lights off and party time when we came back in so we started with our jack and cokes which lacked my friend jack. Everything was cope and steady no problems everybody dancing we watching seats when we get up for bathroom breaks. I even bought a drink for the beautiful brown girl beside my roommate!
We had the same seats best seats at the bar all night! Well almost all night! Second and last Newport coming up. Great conversations! Where did it go sour you wonder. Well I’m wondering the same!
We go out for our second Newport and from there we were denied entry back into the bar. Had conversations with every bouncer/​security on our first cigarette run. This time nobody had any conversation! After we finished our shared cancer stick they said we could not go back in. They couldn’t tell us why and when we asked for the manager to tell us why they told us he did not want to talk to us. We spent almost $ 100 or more in tips and jack & cokes with no jack! I feel the least I deserved was an explanation why!
MY REASON/​OBSERVATION: everybody knew everybody! Many regulars! We had the best seats in the house and were not giving them up! HATERS! We were kicked out for not giving the regular girls any attention that the bouncers knew personally! If you know the bouncers we don’t want to know you! Bar favorites are cool but we now live here and are trying to find nice chill bars to pick up chicks! Seriously! This will not be on the list! People are people especially when they have money! Thursday’s we go out to avoid the drama that the weekend brings but this past Thursday’s drama/​soap opera at this establishment made no sense!
Is it just too hot? Is it just that black people are racist against other black people? Is it because nobody deserves a good summer? Is it because my life is better than most? Is it because you have a curfew and are stuck working as a bouncer or retail associate? Is it because you had a bad day?
I don’t regret going to this bar because I met beautiful people but I promise I will not return! There are many great things in life and I will not waste my life or time in a place with so many sour souls! I’M MAD!

I had been wanting to check this place out since it opened recently. We had an hour or so to kill before the Caps game so I stopped in with a buddy for a quick bite. We were immediately greeted warmly by the bartender and took our seats at the bar. It was happy hour so beer was in order. The bartender not only told us about the beer specials but displayed each bottle on the bar so that we could chose wisely. $ 3 bottled craft beers are g-​o-​o-​d. We took a look at the menu and noticed a southern soul food type vide. I had the fish tacos and a side of macaroni and cheese. The fish tacos were standard fare. The mac and cheese were just like homemade (read «tasty»). My buddy had the blackened catfish on cheesy grits. His eyes lit up when he took a bite. I said «what?». He said «TRY!». He broke me off a wee bit and… It was awesome! We also took home buffalo wings and some collards for the wifey. She said the sauce on the wings and greens were on point. We’ll be back to explore the menu a bit more!
