Archipelago At Home

If you are looking for some eclectic and artsy kind of stuff for the home this shop along Main Street is a must to visit if in the area.
So many unique offerings here. The inventory on hand when we were here was quite diverse. Easy to find something for your place, or a gift for discerning friend or family member with fun décor tastes.
The chandeliers and lighting hanging from the ceiling ranged from the exquisite to the funky out of this world. All handmade and very creative. They have walls and shelves full of things to peruse.
Looking around at price tags most items seemed to be fairly priced for these kinds of items. It’s nice to see a shop where not everything is machine made along an assembly line in China or Taiwan.

Of all the shops on Main Street this was my favorite. I didn’t buy anything but my friend was able to get a Beethoven D.L. & Co. candle for $ 70! That usually costs about $ 120. It was really nice of that guy to give us such a good deal.

Archipelago is really well curated and the prices are very fair (about the same as or even more affordable than many home décor stores here outside of DC, but more interesting selection). My husband and I stopped in on 4^th of July with my sister and her husband on their recommendation. I was especially interested in lighting as I’m looking for a unique chandelier for our dining room. Anyway, the store owner completely ignored us and then helped a customer that came in after us. We felt like he’d profiled us (tourists? «too young»?) and decided we weren’t going to buy something and weren’t worth his time. Left a bad impression on both my sister and I and we left without buying anything.

This extraordinarily ever-​changing gift shop once again saved me. Needing something for my wife’s birthday, I dash into Achipelago. Immediately, the owner points out an item my wife admired a couple of months ago. I get it and a few other things, and my marriage is on!

I do not know why it has taken me so long to write the praises of this Cold Spring classic. Archipelago is a must stop on any Main Street stroll with new finds at every turn.
I could only hope to win the lottery one day, the sooner the better, so I could hire Tim and his amazing eye to outfit my new home. ;))) And also my school for girls in India! (I can dream, can’t I?) From vintage buffets to lamps, clocks, switchplates, you name it, Archipelago is the ultimate destination for interior design options in Cold Spring!
The inventory is constantly changing so if you see something there you like, get it as it is likely to be gone the next time you go in. Speaking of which… There is that new collection of Buddhist art…

I can’t believe that no one has reviewed this place yet! This is a divine little home décor store that seems to do a brisk business.
From their creative, old-​fashioned yet spunky cards to their lovely home furnishings, some of which are traditional and others of which are more modern, there is sure to be something here that you can give that special person in your life. Archipelago’s offerings don’t come cheap, but I think that the quality of most of the items is very good and well worth the price charged. The customer service is also of solid caliber. I purchased a large, leather-​bound journal here for $ 39 — this item was cash-​only — and the owner held it for me until I came back the next day with the money. Don’t worry, though: this place accepts plastic.
In this era of commercialization, where big box stores are everywhere and the malls offer the same products ad naseum, it’s nice to have stores like Archipelago in the neighborhood, which offer unique décor and gift ideas. Yes, Virginia, it is possible to do all your holiday shopping without setting foot in a galleria. Archipelago awaits.
