We had six in our group. The duck appetizer and the spam rolls we ordered both had rotten meat. Literally rotten. A few of the rolls were okay, but overall the meal was terrible. A couple of the rolls only had 5 pieces to them so a terrible deal. The most surprising part was that the waitress only took one roll off of the bill when we pointed out the meat was rotten, even after telling us that they won’t be serving that any more that evening. So, we spent $ 150 and then had to hit a drive thru to get some edible food. We will never eat there again, ever.

We were excited to try the new sushi place in CDa, but it was AWFUL. The sushi was soggy and super fishy tasting. The wasabi is horse radish with green food coloring and the soy sauce tasted like watered down worcheschire sauce plus gross ginger. On top of all of that the service was terrible. We waited 45 minutes for an appetizer and then 30 more for our food. Then our waitress forgot half of our rolls. We left and are extremely disappointed. I wouldn’t recommend to my worst enemy.

Ordered sushi to go, the woman said it wold be ready in 20 minutes. I arrived 20 minutes later and proceeded to wait another 30 minutes for my food. I felt like an idiot, just standing around watching other people eat. Finally a very nice waitress offered me a glass of water and helped me pay my bill, but then she got in trouble because apparently the bar tender needs to ring up to go orders? They went through a crazy procedure to cancel my bill and then recharge my card through the bar. The poor girl was just trying to help me and she got berated. Finally took my sushi home and it was just ok, not a whole lot of flavor. Gonna skip this place in the future.

This was our first visit here. The place is nice looking, modern and clean. We got there around lunchtime and sat at the sushi bar(we were the only ones at the bar) and probably 10 – 12 people sitting at tables. The menu has a great selection of rolls. I’ll say that they are thinking outside of the sushi box. They had different rolls(ingredients) than your typical sushi bar. I thought that was really creative and they were really tasty. All of the rolls and nigiri we had were the right size, more on the larger side. I mention that because of past reviews mentioned the rolls were on the tiny side. They did not take any off the menu requests though such as a salmon skin hand roll. I think this was the first sushi bar I’ve been to that refused to make an off menu item. Strange. The wait staff were friendly and attentive. We never had to flag a waitress for a refill of water. I think the Resturant does however have room for improvement. They had 1 chef making all the sushi and he seemed really hurried and over worked. An assistant would go a long way in helping out and allowing the chef to really shine and show what they can do. This place has all the makings to be a seriously great sushi place. I just hope they don’t fall into that typical trap of being set in their ways and unwilling to change to make it truly awesome, which it could be. If not it will end up in the local pile of so-so sushi places. We will definitely go back and try it again!

Quite possibly the worst sushi I’ve ever had. But I chose to eat sushi in Idaho, so I guess that’s on me.

I love the environment and many of the waitresses are super great! The sushi is usually really good as well. However I will be sitting in the dining room next time I go in and Dominic the su chef is working. or perhaps even leave. A friend and I came to dine there one night and sat at the sushi bar only to be shown very uncouth rude comments from the chef as he intervened between a joke my friend and I were sharing. Put a damper on our evening. I do love the place other than that experience though!

I eat sushi in Coeur d Alene or vicinity weekly or more. As others have said, this place is insanely slow. We were the only ones in the place when we ate. And it was just after 1pm. I don’t see why it should take so long. The rolls were overpriced very weirdly in my opinion. And they were pretty skimpy for the price. Good things I have to say: fun atmosphere, Godzilla thing going on. It was cute. Waitress was friendly. The food wasn’t bad tasting. It was yummy. But only go here for the atmosphere and because you want to kill some time chatting with friends and drinking fun drinks. This isn’t a place to get a real sushi meal.

Went here for my birthday a few days ago. The whole experience was enjoyable but the service was a little slow. The employees did seem busy so I gave them a break. After looking around the restaurant it was less busy then I originally guessed and so I was a little shocked with how long it took us to get our drinks. The server was friendly but didn’t visit the table a whole lot. The vibe was awesome! I love all the paintings they have, made for a good atmosphere. The sushi was good as well but the amount of fish they actually put in there is very small for a sushi place. All in all I had a great time and they even gave me a free shot for my birthday! I will be back.

Well seemed like was gonna be a great exsperience but since arriving there are what seemed to be 2 overserved gentleman at the end of the bar using vulgar language enough where 2 couples had to leave bar and go sit at a table. The one roll we ordered took over 30 mins to get. Really guys for a newer establishment you think you would be more on top of things. What are you going to do when summer is here and you are lined out the door? Try not squizing craft mayo over the top of your rolls cause thats what it tasted like. That was no garlic aioli and where was the ponzu? We where here when first opened and was wounderfull but last couple time have been horrible. Our bartender was very apologetic and had was only reason we stayed so long to receive roll. Think his name was cody w. Great job Cody but horrible job to Kaiju on this visit. Will return to see if it continues.

No but for reals. When people say this place takes forever, it really does take forever. Only about three tables in the place and I ordered one roll and four pieces of nigiri– took 45 mins! The food quality is good but soooo not worth the time. Go to one of the other quality but quicker places in town.

Will never come here again. Place wasn’t busy but yet it took a very long time to get our food. Non specialty rolls are overpriced I think. Food was good but the overall experience was not worth the price.

Step 1. Order a Cherry Blossom. Cherry Vodka, coconut rum, coconut milk, cranberry and lychee juices. Behind the bar is a Best Cocktails award from Bar Wars and it’s easy to taste why. The Cherry Blossom wasn’t overly sweet or overpowering. A perfect symphony of sweet, tarty, and creamy. The subtle and well-balanced qualities of the drink can also be said for the Lychee Lemonade and Green Tea Gimlet. Drinks: 5⁄5 Step 2. Order The Mogera Roll Smoked Salmon, fried feta, and Fuji apples. I liked a couple House Rolls but some I didn’t even want to finish. The Mogera was my favorite and continued pushing the trend of unusual combinations working well together. House rolls seem to run on the smaller side so I wouldn’t suggest coming hungry unless youre prepared to order a lot. On the contrary, desserts came in generous portions and was well worth their price. Food 4⁄5 Final Verdict: A must-try for anyone who is not afraid of trying something different. Every experiment comes with failure, but when they do it right – oh dear it hits the spot.

Had lunch here today. Maguro Tuna Nigiri and, off the daily specials menu, the Chicken Yakitori. Oh, and a cocktail, the ginger tini. Everything was delicious! The fish was fresh, the yakitori perfectly spiced and not too salty and the cocktail was divine! «Bogie» was my friendly chef. I’ll definitely be back. This is my new go-to for sushi.

Tuna tasted awful, rolls were sloppy. Not worth the money.): Atmosphere was cool! Vintage paintings and fun(overly priced) drink names!

Kaiju is a fairly new sushi place down on 5th and Sherman that has plenty of seating which is pretty rare for the sushi places here in coeur d’ alene. The fish is very high quality that is shipped in from various sources around the world. The chef is a local boy that has taken the knowledge from working at various other sushi places here in CDA to make sure you get a great dining experience that will keep you wanting to come back.

If you enjoy fish, this isn’t really the place. Cut rolls were 90% rice and fillers and very little fish. Fish was fresh but slim choices. When we arrived there were 4 other customers well into their meals at the sushi bar. We ordered a total of 2 cut rolls, 1 sashimi and a hand roll. We sat as the sushi preparer(hard to call her a chef) ponderously prepared a roll every 4 or 5 minutes and placed them on a platter… and left them sitting on the other side of the bar while she moved on to the next one. Never once did we have any communication from the preparer. She never made eye contact despite our sitting at the bar. We waited for about 25 minutes while our companion received, ate, and finished her non fish order. In fairness, the fish we could find in the rolls, and the sashimi were very fresh and tasty. I cannot imagine what the wait would be like if there were actually customers in the place.

We like eating here. I think it’s the second best sushi in town. The first time we came to Kaiju I had a Tempura Vegetable roll that was OUTOFTHISWORLD! It was crazy good. In fact the next day I came back to Kaiju because I was craving me some delicious deep fried tempura veggie rolls. Much to my dismay the roll was disappointing. I chalked it up to, «maybe it’s a new chef». So I went back a third time about a week later, ordered the same thing and it was better than the second attempt, but still not as amazing as the first time I had it. What’s the point of all this? Well, for me it adds up to inconsistency. I’ve had the same roll, 3 different times in-a-row, and I would rate the quality different every time. For me, it makes me nervous to try Kaiju again. I’m going to attempt one more visit and see if I can’t find the first chef… then I’ll ask his name and work schedule, and that’s when I’ll eat here. So, ya. Inconsistent sushi, but when it’s good it’s great. The Idaho panhandle is not renown for it’s fish quality, but I’d say it’s pretty good here. Great atmosphere which I always appreciate. Cool retro-pop art paintings of Godzilla and Mothra etc adorn the walls. The place is really clean and the service I’ve had there was always great. So, a solid four stars from me. If they can dial in the consistency, then it would be a five star joint in my mind.
