With Halloween right around the corner, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to step back in time and meet the«funny lady» at The Grove Shop. My friend had told me about how he needed a costume for a 60s/70s party and stumbled into a store where the quirky owner had given him incense for free because«she knew she would receive it back 10 fold if she didn’t take his money.» He said he felt so guilty for the free incense that he gave her $ 10 for a $ 1 bracelet — apparently she could predict the future. Still unsure with what to be for Halloween, I HAD to check the place out for myself… From the moment you park and walk into the store, you realize there’s something very different about it compared to most shops in Miami that goes way beyond just smelling like incense: there are soft tee shirts with 60’s print all over, water pipes fill the glass case and the hippie with a woven cap steps out from the sunlit hallway tells you to go down the hall for vintage clothes. With slight trepidation, you follow his instructions and head down the nicely decorated hallway to the mecca for vintage clothes in Miami! While it didn’t seem like they could have a bigger selection, they were in the process of adding clothes and a woman(I assume the one my friend had told me about) said they would be getting more clothes in the coming weeks. She went on to explain that she had come from New York, where she had a vintage clothing store for over 5 years, and had just opened her new location in Miami. Even if you have already picked out your costume for Halloween 2009, I would recommend stepping back in time and visiting The Grove Shop.
