After two pitchers of mimosas and an order of mussels, Le Café Pop might become one of my favorite Coconut Grove spots to spend the day outside. Indeed, one of my favorite french places to actually dine at is across the street, but they only have 2 tables for outdoor seating. I just knew we wanted to have a liquid brunch with vitamin C, so we tried somewhere new that had plenty of bistro tables outside. The mussels were smaller than ones I’ve had at other restaurants, but tasty. I just wish they would have come with more white wine sauce. As for the mimosas, 25 dollars a pitcher is not bad, but it’s not great. The service was great and we had the place all to ourselves after a couple of hours. Le Café Pop might be my next weekend stop.

I’ll say that coming into this place I didn’t have very high hopes for the food. But turned out to be pretty good. A bottle of wine, some muscles for an appetizer and an entertaining server will do the trick for me. Oh plus they are on which is always a plus!

After a bike ride through the grove, we were in search of a casual place for a snack. We were thirsty and hungry and we didn’t want to deal with the throngs at Green Street and Lulus. Le Café Pop provided the perfect place for a quick seat and some open space to keep our bikes nearby. The menu had more than few appetizing choices for breakfast and lunch, but I settled for a baguette and some jam. It was perfectly crisp and hit the spot. The day was perfect and the outdoor seating allowed for people watching and relaxation. However, the service was a little too relaxed. The staff neglected to refill our glasses of water and cups of coffee but they didn’t hurry us by providing us with the check. Perhaps it was the fact that my meager baguette didn’t warrant better service? I would still come back to try other menu items, but not if I am short on time.

My mom and I were looking for a yummy French brunch. The waiter was so friendly and accommodated my super bulky stroller and my mother and I inside. The menu was alright not too much variety. Everything had a w/nutella option. Which, of course, I took full advantage of when ordering the waffles. My Mom had the croissant eggs Benedict and although she said the sauce was amazing the eggs were a little under done for her liking. The food was alright. The location is perfect and the atmosphere is comfy and inviting. This is definitely a place I’d like to visit for dinner and review again!

Three of us enjoyed dinner inside at this surprisingly cozy and wonderful restaurant before catching a 7:30 movie. Arriving at about 6:30, we were seated on comfy cushions, but for the one who preferred a chair, and our server was a lovely and knowledgeable young woman who provided intelligent suggestions and answered all our questions appropriately. There was no communication problem, her English was as good as ours. At her recommendation, I selected the special and am so glad I did! The roasted tilapia was delicious and flavorful as were the accompanying veggies. My friends’ tuna steak and chicken salad were also well-received and we had a wonderful dinner and walked across to the movie theater arriving in our seats at 7:29 p.m. The server assured us all is homemade, including the bread and the french fries and all the desserts(we decided to try desserts at our next visit.). The ONLY reason this is not receiving 5 stars is it is a little pricey for our budgets. We look forward to dining there again, when we have saved up a little money.

I was headed for Le Bouchon du Grove. I was stoked. I was by myself and not a single of the half dozen servers that walked past me as I was waiting at the host stand even looked at me. After about five minutes of being ignored, I walked across the street. The place was empty. The staff was happy to see me. The wine was good. The manager spoke to me at length about his passion for wine. My waitress was friendly and helpful. I ordered escargot and the duck confit with french fries and ratatouille. The escargot was OK. The ratatouille was good as were the fries but neither blew me away. The duck was very nice with a little bit of crispy skin. I’m sticking with 3 stars for A-OK but it’s a heartfelt 3 stars, just like the restaurant is. The food at Le Bouchon would have to be screaming orgasm good to compete favorably with Le Café Pop.

Came here for an early dinner on a Sunday. Our waiter Mike seated us at a comfy large table with lots of pillows on the bench even though we were only two. My BF had a tough time understanding Mike’s French accent and at times Mike had a hard time explaining some of the menu items, such as «en papillote». He made up for it in personality and wittyness. The restaurant was slow so we felt that we received lots of personal attention, including a run down on the wine list. We started with the escargots. Nothing to brag about but good. The best part is dipping the fresh sourdough bread into the warm oil with the fresh herbs after the escargots are gone. As entrée, I chose the duck breast in a honey balsamic vinegar sauce, haricots verts and of course the home made frites. I loved it, however my BF did not care for the sweet and sour sauce. He went for the filet instead, which was very tender and juicy. Also, the price of the 8 oz filet served with fries and your choice of sauce for $ 24 is great. For dessert, we ordered the profiteroles and the tarte tatin. The profiteroles were OK, basically puff pastries with lots of whipped cream and chocolate syrup. Clearly the chef is not a pastry chef. The tarte tatin was quite good. Don’t expect your traditional apple pie topped with streusel and a big scoop of vanilla ice cream. This is the traditional thin crust tarte topped with caramelized apples. Very light, wonderful texture and flavor. As far as ambiance, the place is romantic and great for dates. If I can get the BF to get into French food a little more we will come here again.

I really wanted to like this place. I went for lunch with my best friend who was in town from Philly around the new year. The ambience is nice, the location is great, and the waitress was lovely and friendly. I ordered the Croque Monsieur and my friend asked for the a salad(I’ve forgotten which one exactly). My sandwich arrived and was quite greasy and salty, but the espresso was wonderful. My friend’s salad was delicious, however, when the bill came, it was quite a bit more than she’d expected. As it turns out, the fish option she chose was a few dollars more, although that wasn’t mentioned by the waitress or written on the menu. That wouldn’t have been a big deal, however, the credit card machine happened to be acting up that day. So in addition to paying more than we’d expected, we got to wait for twenty minutes while the owner dealt with the broken credit card machine. Again, it wouldn’t have turned me off to the place completely, but the way they handled it was less than ideal. We kept asking for our bill, and the owner and waitress kept saying, «just a minute.» Instead of doing anything to make up for the fact that they were taking up an extra 20 minutes of our time, they left us sitting there. Not cool. My hope is that I just caught the place on an off day, but I would not recommend it based on my experience, especially when there are so many great places in the Grove to eat.

Came here a few times with friends. Once to have a one on one conversation with a friend on sensitive subjects, and another time to hang out with friends before heading out on a big trip. Le Café Pop was able to successfully accommodate to the needs of both dining experiences and provide good food and drink at reasonable(by Grove standard) prices. Tuesday night Mussels is a great deal, and the mussels just keep coming! They serve them up with fries, which normally I would think are just filler to keep you from eating more Mussels, but the fries are really good and freshly made too! My only«bad’ experience was ordering of the daily specials menu once, and being told they were«out’ of the daily special when it was still relatively early in the evening! Still it didn’t detract me from ordering another equally delicious item from the regular menu. The dessert choices seem uninspired when you look at the menu, but when the dessert actually comes out it is actually very, very good. For example, I ordered the Tarte Tatin«apple pie» dessert, which actually turned out to be an honest to goodness Tarte Tatin, not just a regular apple pie! Try this place out. I like it much better than all the other french options in the grove.

So happy the Grove has a yummy little restaurant. We went on the all you can eat fries and mussels night. It was really good! The service was great! The mussels were marinated in a clear garlic broth. The fries were crisp and fresh. I went with three other people who all ordered the same thing so I’m not sure about the other menu items.

It is a dark time for the Grove. For Rent signs are spreading like cancer, shingles are disappearing and, honestly, some parts have a post-katrina New Orleans feel. All the more reason help get this little café off to a good start! Located on Main Highway right in the middle of the Grove, just around the corner from Coco Walk, is this new french café. The name fits this place perfectly, from the simple décor to the upbeat french music. This place isn’t stuffy or pretentious, just relaxed and fun. You can choose to eat inside or out, and outside is far enough removed from the road so you don’t feel like you’re sucking in car fumes. We all ordered the same thing for dinner, the all you can mussel special which came with fries. I admit I ordered it because I don’t really care for french food. Ok, I’ll be really honest, french food scares me and I don’t know how to order/pronounce/eat it, so the mussels were a no-brainer. We did ask another group that was dining outside(we were inside) who had also ordered the mussels what they thought of them before we ordered…(they recommended them)! They came in a large bowl and were covered in a buttery garlic sauce that was good, but not overpowering. The fries were fresh and hot and also were all you can eat, which ment I left with a belly full of mussels and fries. Service was quick and pleasant, and bread was served while you wait. Thankfully the bread was not of the use-as-a-baseball-bat variety, just plain, good and soft bread. For dessert we ordered the apple pie(tarte tatin) and the puff pastry with vanilla ice cream served with hot chocolate sauce and whipped cream(profiteroles) and while both were really good, don’t waste your time with getting any other dessert — the profiteroles were amazing! Dark, rich chocolate and perfectly crisp pastry, it’s a must. This place would have been a five star for sure but it is a little pricey(though our special was only 18 bucks). Other than that, it’s a great new spot that deserves a little love.
