The quality has declined during each of my dozen visits. But such is life.

Great taco place. Four of us went, four of us were happy. A nice variety of food, including a nice variety of tortas, which I usually get. They also have horchata. There’s is a touch sweeter than most, but very good and no grit. Most of the menu is in Spanish, but everyone spoke English and were happy to help. They didn’t mind a special order one of us had either. Nice place with tasty food.

I stopped in late after having some Wine on Main and ordered up for a great meal to take home. It is authentic, mainly Hispanic folks as customers and employees, which of course is great, except maybe when it comes time to order! But I took a chance on «Jamalalla» which is described as Pollo, Asada Y Arroz, which I’m guessing means Chicken, Steak and Rice! And it was awesome, I came home and filled the 6 soft corn tortillas with the meat with onions and peppers, and loved every bite. The rice was warm and wonderful too. There was even enough to make some lunch with my own tortillas the next day. Good Stuff!

The food was very good, authentic Mexican and some neat décor. But it was very dirty inside when we went in for the first time. I mean good food is great but in a dirty filthy environment its unappetizing.

The food was very fresh and authentic. They have a bar that has side dishes as well as sauces. The tacos were made on freshly made tortillas and were excellent. They have the best rice that we’ve had in a long time. This is a new favorite for us!

If you want authentic Mexican food, then this is the place for you! The food is amazing. The salsa bar is great — lots of choices, and I especially love the pickled carrots and the slaw. Great prices! They also have food choices for my picky eaters who don’t know what they’re missing. I eat hear as often as I can. It gets better every time! Tastes just like you’re in Los Angeles. Yep, it’s that good.

Amazing food! Very pleasant ambiance for the price. Very authentic real Mexican(no Tex Mex). I am not a fan of Tex Mex. wonderful salsa bar. They have good Mexican beer. My fave is Negra Modelo. Best Mexican rice I have eaten. Excellent beans and tortillas. Enjoyed everything I ate, and prices were great. Under $ 12 with a beer.

My girlfriend and I went to see Lights on the Neuse in Clayton so we decided to have dinner here. She is obsessed with tacos, so we decided to hit up the local taco joint. It is super authentic, like all menus in Spanish authentic. We ordered chips and salsa, pescado tacos(fish), and burrito mojado with carne asada. The tacos had fried fish that was awesome, lettuce, tomato, and cojita cheese. There were 3 tacos plus rice and beans. The burrito mojado came with lettuce, avocado, and rice. It was really big. They also have a topping/condiment bar that was pretty impressive. They had some sort of light green cream sauce. Watch out its delicious but it has a kick!

Very fresh, authentic Mexican food. I had the pork verde burrito, which was fabulous and the tacos, which were also very good. The salsa/condiment bar is wonderful. Finally, a hot salsa that lives up to its name! The pickled onions are great and the verde has a very fresh flavor. The prices are good and I will be going back on a regular basis.

Fish tacos are the best I’ve ever had. The fish is perfectly seasoned and fried. The portion is large with 3 tacos, rice and beans.

Absolutely terrific Mexican food. I won’t go into all the words previous reviewers said… other than«yeah! What they said!!!». We’ve been several times in the last few weeks and every visit is better than the last! Absolutely delicious, fresh, and wonderful food. It’s our favorite place to eat Mexican cuisine! Go and try them out, you can thank me later!!!

It is like having one of those cool authentic food trucks in a brick and mortar building. The flavors are excellent and the prices affordable. If you have a craving for legitimate Mexican food, this is the the only option(and luckily a great one at that) in Clayton.

This amazing little place deserves more than five stars. It is the best food I have eaten in Clayton(Johnston County), NC. If you are not Latino, you might be the only«Gringo» in the restaurant. The food is fresh, portions extremely large, prices reasonable, with a «condiment» bar to die for. This restaurant will make you feel that you have stepped out of USA and into Mexico, with all the fresh food available there. If you think that American food is not so good, visit this restaurant and you can ‘escape’ for at least one meal.

My brother has been singing the praises of this place since he discovered it last spring. With all of his hyping of the food, the rest of my family couldn’t resist trying it while visiting over the holidays. The 6 of us went on a Friday at lunch and it was pretty busy. I ordered the fried fish tacos and a mexican coke and my husband ordered the california burrito. Food is made to order so it does take a few minutes which I don’t mind. The condiment bar was pretty awesome. I wish I had more room in my tacos for all of the things! My tacos were great. Lots of fish and a great side sauce. My husband liked his cali burrito but said next time he would get the fish tacos. I’d never had a mexican coke but you can definitely tell the difference. I like it much better than the regular coke personally. The man expediting the food from the kitchen was very customer service oriented, asking all the customers how everything was. My sister had ordered shrimp empanadas and while they were a little overdone, they weren’t inedible(I actually really liked them). Once she had her fill of them, the gentlemen(manager?owner?) came over and apologized for them being overdone and provided her with a whole new order! We will absolutely be back.

I was fortunate enough to get back here on Dec. 26th, and it was better than my first visit. I went with my wife, sisters, and their husbands. I’ve done nothing but talk this place up to everyone in my family since my first visit. Don Betos proved me right. This time I started with just a couple tacos, remembering how filling they were the first time. I had asada al pastor. Awesome. Wife had a chicken tamale and a couple carnitas tacos. In-laws each had the California burrito, one of my sisters had the empenadas with shrimp, other sister had the fried fish tacos. I tried the tamale, and I’ve never really been blown away by tamales regardless of where I’ve had them. It was good, not great. My sister ate and enjoyed her large order of empenadas. They were a little over-done(not by much) and after she finished eating she was brought another perfectly made order on the house. The California burritos were enjoyed by the in-laws, and there were no leftovers. My sister really enjoyed her fried fish tacos as well. Before leaving I ordered another 4 tacos. Asada, al pastor, and chicharones. All were delicious. I love this place, they need to open up a spot in northern NJASAP.

The food is nowhere near as good as the Don Bentos in selma. It is amazing there. In clayton the tacos resemble dog food. I ordered tacos de alpastor and it was 80% sour beans and 20% al pastor meat. Now the selma made me a quesadilla alpastor and it was stunning. The clayton one said they dont make those. I speak spanish my father does not. In clayton they shrugged there shoulders and ignored my dad. Selma took the time to talk and ex0lain the dishes to him in english, and double checked to make sure it was right. Clayton looked at me and said«this is whaT you ordered» then turned there back and ignored me. Moral of the story, go to selma. The food is amazing

I’ve gone here for many many years(since they opened at the end of the strip mall next to them)… under a different name. I think I’m the designated Gringo, as I’m there at least once a week. I grew up in New Mexico, and like my food hot and authentic. This is the place. They make everything fresh here… the salsas, the dressings for the tacos, even the tortillas. The meats are smoky and real meat(not some synthetic extrusion) and the salsas spicy(Their current chunky habanero/jalapeño salsa is to die for). You can get most anything carry out as well. I hope this place never closes. The only other place in the area that had good tacos and burritos was a small stand next to the now defunct Citco, which burned down many years ago. If you want TexMex(bleahhh), there’s a bunch of places to go. If you want working mans Mexican food, come here. Better come early tho, as by about 6:30PM they’re getting ready to shut down. «Tenemos el Sabor»(we have the flavor!) indeed !

I pretty much second everything Kurt said. My Hispanic friends and clients have recommended this place for ages. I don’t know why it took me so long to get here! It does help to know a little Español, but the staff is very kind whether you do or not, and will not make fun of you for poor grammar or pronunciation. In fact, if they know the English word for what you are attempting to order, they will do their best to clarify. The food is outstanding. The tacos come undressed, but there are no less than 10 condiments you can choose from the help yourself bar. Most of it is spicy, at least for our American palates. ;) The cabbage on top of the pastor taco… amazing. We tried pretty much every condiment we could, one way or another. It’s all delicious. You really can’t go wrong. We ordered the pescado(fish) which were a little bland but tender and flaky, pastor(spicy pork, my favorite, really not too spicy until you hit the condiment bar), asada(beef…tender) and my husband’s favorite, chorizo. My husband can be slightly uncomfortable in a place where he doesn’t speak the language, but by the end of the meal he was asking me how to tell them it was very good. That’s how much he liked it. I think we will be regulars.

This is the one I’ve been waiting for. The most authentic Mexican food in Johnston(and probably Southern Wake county). Eat here if you want to feel like you just skipped the border to Tijuana or Piedras Negras. Please keep that in mind, as it’s not always the N. American definition of «spotless». It used to be another restaurant(I think.) or they’ve just majorly upgraded the furnishings inside. Amazing, to say the least. The meats for your taco/burrito/anything else are encyclopaedic. I ordered a taco suadero(brisket), asada(beef) and al pastor(pork). The regular tacos are $ 1.79 each. It’s $.50 extra for authentic specialties like tripe or tongue. My apologies, but I’m not quite there yet. Because my wife is in love with fish tacos, I ordered a 3-pack of the tacos pescado. $ 9.99 for 3 fish-filled, incredible tacos, beans and rice. I’ll hit the food first, and then the atmosphere. The food is 5* delicious. My wife claims the fish(thinly sliced whitefish with corn breading) is the best she’s tasted. Not being a huge fish fan, I was still compelled to taste. Delicious. I mean really delicious. My food was even better. It seems they smoke or charcoal grill their meats here. My asada had the nicest hint of wood smoke. And tender. You ain’t seen nothin’ yet. The brisket was cubed and crunchy. The only thing that really surprised me in a «hmmm» way was the pork. A little more subtle on the seasoning than I am used to, with a hint of oregano. Good. Just not what I am used to. But my favorite part is the condiment bar. How I love escabache(carrots, jalapenos and onions cut thick and marinated with oregano, oil, vinegar and salt), and the pickled onions with dried hot peppers. Tons of white onion and cilantro are available along with lemon, salsa roja and verde. If you’re not Latino, you’re definitely an outsider here. The staff speaks some English, but I always find it helpful to speak a bit of Spanish. Clientele tends to be working class and mostly male. The interior is a slice of Mexico with murals, Corona buckets(with bottle openers) as overhead lighting, and afternoon futbol on Univision in the back corner. Every table has a pony bottle of Corona that doubles as a salt shaker, and a bottle of Valentina hot sauce to give the meal some kick. If you’re drinking(I was not), they keep beer on ice near the register, and a huge selection of Jarritos and Mexican Coke(cane sugar, $ 1.99 for a half-liter bottle) in a display case at checkout. It’s as real as it gets… and the menu is huge(pictures are posted). I can’t wait to go back. My new favorite Mexican restaurant, period. Notes: They do not believe in air conditioning here. If that is a requirement, you may want to place a takeout order. There is a very good possibility that you will be the only non-hispanic person here. If you’re uncomfortable with that, you’re going to have a bad time. People are nice here, and service is fairly quick. The place is a little hard to find, as it behind the Long Island Express. The entrance is around back, after you park.
