I just wanted to give a shout out to our wonderful waiter, Adam. He was sweet, engaging and attentive. I was dining with my aging dad who doesn’t hear or speak well, and he was very respectful and patient. Plus I had a delicious steak burger and my dad loved the French Dip. I haven’t seen him eat so heartily or happily in a long time. Thank you!

I love J Alexander’s vegetable plates and was exited to see the Baby Kale Salad on the fresh selections. I ordered this, but they served up a kale salad that was anything but baby! It was huge, tough, grown-up kale. I love kale but this salad was not worth the fight. Disappointed.

J Alexander’s has always been one of our favorite restaurants! We love the service, food and and ambiance. The service has always been great! Our wait staff is always attentive and kind. They don’t bother you too much but we’ve never had to wait to find them. The food is my favorite! I’ve never had anything I didn’t enjoy! My favorites are the crab cakes or steak Maui. The crab cakes have so much crab meat! It’s fresh and hearty. The steak Maui is so flavorful! The seasoning and marinade they use is the best and you don’t need any sauce for it. The ambiance is nice and classy. The dining room is dimly lit and you don’t feel like you’re on top of other guests. It’s not too loud either. I’d recommend making a reservation to decrease your wait time. As well, Wednesday’s they have $ 6 martinis which is a great deal because it comes with a side car! So it’s like getting two martinis for the price of one. Come check this out for date night or just because. You won’t be disappointed!

I used to love this place and planned many group lunch and dinner outings here. But since it has become«the redlands grill» things have really changed. The food is more expensive and the quality is not what it used to be. The portions are much smaller and presented in a less attractive manner. I asked for a club soda(they have a full bar) and it used to be served it in a nice tall glass. Instead my waiter brought me a tiny one serving bottle for $ 3.00. Ridiculous!!! I also noticed how many tables were empty. I’m not surprised. They ruined the good thing they had going… I won’t choose this place again.

Oh boy! Less than a year later with a name change, this is a different place. Prime rib was awful! Tough and fatty. I think they are using cheaper meat. They insisted I get another one so I did and we brought it home and threw it away! Scotty(best bartender ever) wasn’t there… But even baked potato was barely warm…

Did you ever have a not so good meal, but then the restaurant bends over backwards to make it right? I ordered the steak tacos(used to be on the regular menu but now are just a special) and was soooo disappointed. I’ve ordered these many times previously and they were fantastic. When I said something to the server, she offered to take them off the bill and bring me something else, as well as a free dessert. The manager came over, apologized and offered to have the chef remake them. By then I had eaten enough off of my husband’s plate(rotisserie chicken – delicious) and was pretty full. But we did take advantage of the free dessert – chocolate cake, which was very good. I’ve eaten here multiple times and will definitely be returning, as I appreciate people who work to fix a mistake! Kudos to the team :)

I dined there for the first time on Wed, Dec 23rd. I won a $ 50 gift certificate from my work(Seasons 52), for knowing my menu at a pre shift test. I decided to take my mom there for her birthday. I made a reservation online with OpenTable and included the birthday info in the reservation. First of all, this place is NICE! The décor of the restaurant feels upscale, the servers wear long aprons with dress shirts and tie, and they present themselves as a five star type of dining. My experience there was pretty friggin good! They acknowledged my moms birthday as soon as we got to the host stand to check in. We were seated and you can tell on the way to the table they present an upscale type of dining with their execution. We were greeted by, what I assumed, as a server assistant. She took our drink order and then we were approached by our server. He explained the daily special deal, really quickly I might add, and then vanished. My mom was like… what did he just say? Being a server, I know he deal, and caught what he was doing, but it was confusing if I wasn’t on par with the industry. We got our drinks and we put an app order in. The smoked salmon dip app was amazing! Good flavor and my mom, who doesn’t like salmon really like it. We then split a Caesar salad and my mom ordered the steak tacos and I got the seafood pasta special. Her tacos were awesome! The steak had a lot of flavor and there were 3 nice size tacos. My seafood special was good, with scallops, crab, and shrimp and an Alfredo style sauce with angel hair pasta. We didn’t finish it all and everything was boxed behind the scenes. We were offered dessert, but declined since we were stuffed. We cashed out pretty quickly and went on our way. One thing I was disappointed with was that our server never acknowledged my moms birthday. I don’t know it they don’t do anything special, like free piece of cake or whatever, but he never said anything about it. I work across the street and if it’s someone’s birthday we buy their dessert and take a picture with our camera them print out a souvenir copy for them to take home. It’s a really nice touch, and I don’t expect every place to do that, but I would expect something. All in all I really like this place. Their food is outstanding, their service is super attentive, and their ambience is upscale. I think dining here for dinner, whether it be a date or special occasion, would be ideal. I just don’t think I would come here all the time. Lunch prices aren’t a big difference from dinner, and I’m paying that kind of money, I expect my server to acknowledge something like a birthday. They don’t need to give me anything free, but a little special attention would be nice. All in all, a great experience! I will def be back for special occasions if I’m not wanting to spend money for the Precinct or a place like Nicola’s. I guess we at Seasons 52 can be said the same things though. Good job J. Alexanders!

Came here after being indecisive where I should eat for dinner on my day off. Best decision I’ve made around the Hyde Park area. I sat at the gigantic bar they have to the left when you walk in. The service was flawless. The waitress/bartender recommended the Scottish salmon so I went with it. Absolutely phenomenal. The wine selection(my choice of drink) was also great. I didn’t catch the name of the woman who took care of me, but she definitely has convinced me to come back thanks to her recommendations.

Zero stars for this place for being a jerk. I had too much to drink and left my car at their parking lot instead of driving home. Called them the following morning letting them know, and asking if it would be OK to leave it there till I could get a ride there until later in the day. The manager I spoke to stated giving me griff about how he wasn’t going to have it towed BUT I am taking up one of their prime parking spots. As many ppl get in car wrecks for drinking and driving he should have been thanking me for not driving. His attitude was so bad, I didn’t wait for a ride, took a über car there and picked up my car. Thanks for being a supporter of ppl not drinking and driving!

I haven’t been here in years! I was excited to return to it because I’ve always loved their club. I walked in and asked to place a carry out. I was directed to the bar. I sat at the bar and was never greeted. After seeing the two bartenders wait on others and even pass me one of them by passingly said hi to me. I asked if I could place a to go order. I think she was shocked I hadn’t been waited on when I asked for a to go order. She gave me a menu and I reviewed it briefly and was ready to order. I sat and waited for one of the two bartenders to come back and take my order… which never happened. I left without placing an order. Guess it will be another 4 years before I come back :/

J. Alexander’s is calling this place Redlands Grill now. Menu is 95% unchanged. When we go out as a family, we eat here often-for one reason: the kids and adults can find something they like. Servers are good. Your drink will almost always stay refreshed. Salads and entrees are good. And they do usually have a specials card for a few alternate entrees, apps, and listing for the seasonal vegetable. Three things I think they could improve. 1– offer to serve some bread. 2-vary the menu more. It’s getting old. Even the specials are recycled too often. I have my favorites but it doesn’t inspire me. 3– consider a loyalty rewards program.

Went Saturday late afternoon on the weekend of a holiday. I don’t think our waitress wanted to be there. She ignored us she didn’t bring us the correct requests. We asked about a dessert from the other table and she didn’t even tell us the correct dessert. She ignored us and didn’t bring our check I had to go to the manager to get my check terrible service probably will not go back there even though the food wasn’t too bad

There is one spot under the cold air flow you don’t want to sit. You’ll get cold if you’re in the middle area even on a hot summer day. Wonderful salads, great presentation, good flavor and texture. Gourmet done right. I always have a good time here.

Came here for drinks and appetizers with a few friends, we had great service had no problem getting in for a table we went around 5PM. Everything we had was absolutely delicious! I would highly recommend the chicken pasta soup as well as the macaroni and cheese.

Got the steak w/fries. Mistake! Don’t know what I was thinking. Shoulda went for the fillet. Hate ‘shoe string’ style fries. Steak was average quality. Price was high. Oh well. Sure I’ll go there again & will try something else

Everything was excellent; from the cilantro shrimp to the fried fish sandwich(which was red fish the day we went). The mac and cheese was also very decadent and tasty.(For the record, I am very judgmental about mac and cheese!) Let me not forget how amazing balls the carrot cake was. Seriously. Extraordinarily moist and tingly warm. A must have. Otherwise, the service was excellent and the ambiance was perfect. Can’t wait to go back.

Went here with high expectations and really was not impressed. The appetizer Chips and spinach con queso was ok at best. I ordered the Steak Maui with the Not your ordinary Mac & cheese. Steak was very fatty and nothing to brag about and Mac & cheese wasn’t that great either. My guest ordered the prime rib which she said she enjoyed. Now the dessert on the other hand was something I have never wanted to try but did because of all the praise. Carrot Cake was definitely a must try! Very good indeed.

Waited 10 minutes to get silverware(after being served our salad), and then had to ask again for linens. I ordered the crab cakes– $ 38 and my partner ordered the prime rib $ 28. Seemed pricey to me, but I took the risk. When I got the meal, I was underwhelmed with the quality and size of the crab cakes for the price. The couscous was underwhelming as well. My partner loved her prime rib(she’s much less high maintenance than me). Side note– on my reservation I noted that my partner’s birthday was tonight(expecting a slice of cake or something) but my server was not communicated this information and we didn’t get a dessert. For the price point of our dishes I would usually expect bread to be served, or at least a higher level of service. In addition to being unsatisfied with the meal and walking away paying $ 110 for a substandard meal, I can definitely say I won’t be going back.

Positively surprised! Went in with absolutely no expectations and left quite impressed. For starters: excellent service. From the moment you enter, you are greeted, seated and treated with care and respect. The food was fresh and good. Pretty much classics, but nicely executed and served within very reasonable amount of time. Not a bad choice for a pretty elegant meal!

I think the chef is a smoker everything was so salty. I used to go here often but recently I had lunch there & it was really bad. They are slipping big time! The staff is amazing & the coffee machine is amazing. I have to give them that. Talk to your chef guys a little salt goes a long way. I love fries but could not eat more than a few… And their veggie burger tastes like cardboard. Wake up guys the vegan /vegetarian trend is growing big time in Cincinnati!

Where people in suits overpay for crummy food. I swear all the people with Audis, Beamers, and Lexi come directly here for lunch after selling off their collective taste buds. I’ve been reluctant to write this review because I’m here often, not at my choosing. I cannot figure out what keeps people coming back. The people I go with are picky eaters and routinely complain about the food not being done properly. That’s at least partly their own fault, but you’d think the kitchen would figure it out once in a while. The execution on the meals is inconsistent and when you’re paying a higher than average price, you have higher than average expectations. Aside from brunch I don’t care for most of the food and the few things I do enjoy I’ve had often enough that I don’t want them anymore. They could really stand to re-shuffle the menu and get rid of some of the bitter and the bland. Even the specials have gotten too repetitive with a daily offering of 6 kinds of fish and 1 kind of chicken, done with limited taste and often burnt until there’s no taste at all except for carcinogens. Additionally, this is not a great place for lunch as most of the menu items are large meals in the $ 20+ range. Service is friendly, and recently has figured out what food goes where at the bar. In the past this has been a big problem as J. Alexander’s thinks it’s fancy for servers not to ask who had what. I wouldn’t normally complain about this, but if they don’t get it right 99% of the time, I’d rather have them ask than have to shuffle plates four times over. Bottom line, you can do better for your money and there are a lot of non-chains out there.

Had a gift card so my family decided to try this place out. Service was good. We had reservations so we got seated quickly. I ended up getting the steak maui and did not like it. It was overcooked, dry, and I didn’t really like the sauce. The NYO mac and cheese and mashed potatoes were delicious. I tried the filet and NY Strip as well, and those steaks were better, and not overcooked. I think the issue with my steak was that it was thin. I also had the Alex salad which was decent(not as good as the Freddie at Precinct). Overall, it was almost $ 200 for 4 people(not even including drinks), but the quality of the food wasn’t worth that price. I would rather pay slightly more and go to other steakhouses in the area.

I only give four stars bc this is a chain. At the risk of sounding like a giant snob, I really prefer to support local business. That being said this is a delicious place! From the ambiance, location, professional wait staff and of course the food. Everything about it gets an A! It’s definitely on the nicer side, it’s not Carlo and Johnny, but it isn’t Long Horn either. Keep this in mind, you’ll drop some change here.

My SO and I came here one night just because we didn’t want to go too far but we wanted to make it a somewhat special outing for our date night. Based off of Unilocaler’s top reviews we went with the Salmon dip for appetizer then… Maui Steak and Steak n’ Fries… followed by the infamous carrot cake. The ambiance was great. I felt immediately comfortable and I thought to myself I’d like to come here again. Everything from reserving a seat to walking in to a friendly host was pretty much pleasant. The only hitch? The food was… mediocre at best… We came in hungry and usually it means it takes very little to impress me. I thought to myself I’ll go with the steak that comes with fries because what the hey I’m bound to like at least half the dish… But oh boy… I worked hard to get through the steak. My SO also had a hard time eating through the fat in his steak. For such great service and ambience the food really needs another bump up for it to be worth the second visit. Word to the wise: Salmon Dip with the crispy bread slices… was this only win on the menu.
