I am so happy I’ve discovered this place! We bought barbacoa and carnitas already prepared for our get together over Memorial Day weekend. I couldn’t even come close to making it for the price they charge and most likely not nearly as tasty. The employees are friendly and helpful and prices can’t be beat.

I just discovered Plaza Sol today and was delighted to find out that I have a Mexican grocery nearby. Couldn’t help but load up on goods that I can’t find in local grocery stores, including tortillas the diameter of beach umbrellas, so I’ll be eating my favorite cuisine all week. Very helpful and friendly folks running this place, which was icing on the cake since my Spanish is not nearly as good as their English. Even more exciting is they’ve knocked down the wall to the space next door and are building out a taqueria. As of today they’re serving, but not everything is quite in place, so the grand opening will be within a couple of weeks. The excellent Taqueria Maya is nearby so when I do eat out it’s usually there, but now I’ll have another favorite stomping ground. I talked to the ladies in charge of the taqueria for quite a while and having done so, it’s sure to be top notch. If you call ahead they’ll whip you up a pound or two of your favorite taco or burrito filling, then you can grab a pack of tortillas on the way out for a great meal at home or lunches for the week.

Small for Mexican market, shelves are sometimes bare. For Mason it is one of two in the area.

Plaza Sol is an easy to miss Latino market right off the Fields Ertel exit of i71 that looks small from the outside but inside is jam packed with all sorts of goods. The store is mostly packaged goods but they do have a couple refrigerators for vegetables and a meat counter in back. Many things don’t have prices but everything is really cheap so there’s not much of a concern there. My favorite things to get here are spices, hard-to-find ingredients and Mexican Coke. I generally don’t like most sodas, but Mexican Coke is great and so much better than American Coke. It’s cheaper, comes in a glass bottle and the flavor is much cleaner and, well, better. If you get it I also suggest getting the Japanese roasted peanuts to go with it(they’re a tasty pair.)

There aren’t many Latino markets near Mason, so this one is super convenient. It’s really small, but they had a good selection of products given the space constraints. Prices were good, and they have a great selection of hard to find herbs and spices as well as Mexican Coke which — if you’ve never had it — is substantially better than what they make here. The owners are really nice and it looked like they were adding on a tacqueria, though it didn’t seem to be open yet last time we were there. We’ll definitely be buying a lot of spices from here.
