This is what you would expect for an on-campus sit down restaurant. I went here with a former professor for lunch and we were promptly seated right by the fireplace. It was very comfortable overall. I ordered a turkey pear and brie sandwich with sweet potato tots($ 10). The sandwich was grilled with a basil aioli, pears, and brie. I wished it did have a bit more brie but overall pretty tasty. The tots came with a brown sugar dip. The service was decent and overall a good experience. I think this is a good option if you are on campus and don’t have time to drive or walk somewhere else in the area. Great option for professors and staff for meetings!

The service was really great but the food could use some more work. I went with a group of faculty and administrators for lunch. Most of the others in the group had been multiple times if not frequently, but I hadn’t been in a while. The staff knew them by name and were very friendly, approachable and even foresaw their needs. I ordered the creamy avocado spaghetti. It liked very tasty. It was very creamy but I felt like it was just ok. If not for the cracked pepper on top, it would have been very bland. I contemplated asking for crushed red pepper just to give it some kind of taste. Most of the others got the fish chips which were highly recommended. They also have a large variety of vegetarian and vegan dishes, which was pleasantly surprising. Next time I go, I might stick with the fish and chips.

Mick & Mack’s started the school year with a new menu. While I’m [only slightly] disappointed that the artichoke sandwich is gone, there seems to be more options and a pretty substantial vegetarian portion of the menu. Working on UC’s campus, this a place I will bring guests to lunch, or occasionally, our office will grab lunch here. It’s a sit-down restaurant with all the amenities. On my most recent visit, I had the mushroom ravoli-it was really good-I was surprisingly impressed. My biggest issue is the speed of service. If you’re in a hurry, you’ll want to let your server know, and even then, if you truly only have an hour, get the buffet. Or check out Quick Mick’s in the hallway outside for soup, salad, and sandwich to go. Most recently, our server didn’t refill our drinks(but another did) and didn’t bring bread to the table either. Maybe he’s new, but still, it’s not a bargain café at a $ 10 lunch, so my expectations are a bit higher.

Mick and Mack’s is on the UC campus and accordingly, is often occupied by faculty, staff, visitors, and maybe even students with their parents. It has a true restaurant feel, billing itself as a ‘contemporary café’, as compared to the student filled fast food court a floor down in the TUC(Tangeman University Center). Avoid that if you’d like to remain optimistic about the future of our country, state, nation.(I kid. Mostly.) But avoid it either way, this food is WAY better and though you might pay more than $ 5, you’ll understand why! I find the menu reliably solid(it changes), interesting enough to satisfy multiple palates, and the atmosphere worth coming back to. They recently remodeled but it has a clean, modern vibe. There are outdoor seating options which come in handy on warner spring/summer days, as well. When it comes to on campus dining, I’ve experienced too many catering like options, and I think Mick and Mack’s really breaks the mold. They host wine nights and a gourmet monthly dinner that could certainly be worth checking out. I have had a handful of sandwiches prior to their current menu which were always satisfying. More recently I’ve had the grilled chicken club which was delicious with chicken, avocado, bacon, swiss, and aioli. With their sandwiches they offer homemade Saratoga Chips which are kettle chip more than potato bites, and quite delicious(if not all that healthy). You can customize the flavoring: ranch, cajun, salt– I believe). I’ve also had the cobb salad which at first looked a bit light on the lettuce in the large bowl, but proved to be the perfect size. It was a protein filled option(chicken, egg, crispy bacon), fresh olives, blue cheese, and avocado. There was nothing overdone/greasy/nasty to counteract my intentions in ordering salad. It was actually kind of a Goldie Locks moment where it was, ‘just right’. And delicious. Their pizza crust is awesome and the pepperoni variety satisfies the SO most times we go. I enjoy heading across campus from my office to have a low stress lunch at Mick and Macks. On our most recent visit we learned about their ‘frequent flyer’ card which makes this an even more appealing lunch destination. Buy 10 the next is free. If you’re part of the UC community you have to give this place a try, if you’re just in the community at large and wanting to spend a day on campus, this might be a good way to finish up your visit. This place is accessible, friendly, convenient, and fresh, quick enough to fit the bill for my lunch when I want to go out. Worth checking out, for sure.

The restaurant is located near the heart of the university in the TCU building, which make this place unique. If you don’t look hard enough you can walk right past the place. I myself have attended the university for three year now and for the first time just had lunch there last week. I would say this is due to the higher prices that most student are not willing to pay on a daily basis. I had the pep pizza which was top notch and would recommend it to anyone who is a pizza fan. The pizza cost around $ 11 and this is the average price of a meal. They do offer a food bar but I did not try it. If your on campus and looking for something better then the fast food offered on campus this is the place to go. There is no dress code and most people eating there are coming from work. If your visiting UC and want to impress a student or client I would also recommend this location. The service is great and most workers are students from campus.

If you are UC campus and tired of the same old fast food options, this place is a great spot to get away from all that commercial stuff. The only down side is they are only open for lunch(11AM-2PM). They have indoor and outdoor seating, and a great buffet option($ 11) thats pretty affordable(you can do soup and salad only for $ 8) so you can stuff your face till your heart is content. My personal fav is the avacado burger. They also have monthly wine tastings each first Thursday of the month from 5−7PM.
