Ate here for the first time recently, carrying out a ham & beef double-decker with fries. The sandwich was really good, but the fries seem to be cooked in old grease. Overall, they were OK. The reason for 3 stars is because the portions were ridiculously large. Prices were pretty high too. Now, I can eat with the best of them, but I would have been happier with a sandwich sized comparably with other restaurants that serve this kind of sandwich. The fries were also easily double what they needed to be. Leftovers are nice to have, but I would rather have a smaller serving size & price to match.

If you subscribe to the East side/West side drama Cincinnati has –be warned! This place is stereotypically west side. I walked in and it was like everyone was an extra on a movie set. I mean this was too surreal to be real… so I thought. Aside from this fact the place is cash only with an ATM in the front that charges $ 2.95. As I said-stereotypically west side. Not that that’s an issue because there are some great things about the west side of town. Now about the food! Have you seen the pictures? Absolutely scrumptious! Huge sandwiches with more than enough meat for one person. Reminds me of J and W sandwich shop in Norwood except this place is about $ 3 more expensive. If you live out west I guess its the cost of convenience. I personally won’t be going back. As much as I enjoyed the food, I just didn’t feel very welcomed. There was this«cold» vibe and I just wanted to get my sandwich and onion rings and bounce! That happens occasionally but I really didn’t feel like I belonged here. If I wasn’t starving when I walked in I probably would’ve eaten at the Thai place next door. Not so humbly submitted, King Michael C.

Awesome little diner. The menu is filled with American classics and the prices are great. The portions are very big so either bring a heavy appetite or look forward to leftovers. The waitress was very friendly and gave prompt service. I never saw the bottom of my coffee cup which is a huge plus. The only downsides are the establishment is cash only which can be inconvenient for some but they have more money for ingredients instead of credit taxes. My omelette was also very thick with cheese but the ham was fresh and thinly sliced. I definitely will be returning to try another entrée.

In short: exceeded my expectation! Its in the middle of the strip mall and not big. But the prices were awesome and the food was good. I had the fish and chips. For less than $ 5 it was good. The waitresses were friendly and fairly attentive, not chatty but I’m not a regular. Its cash only. They have an ATM there too. Pepsi Products. Additionally they had a Christmas tree with not a star but an American Flag on top.

So I’ve heard a ton of amazing things about J&J’s, always been tempted to try them when I go by the west side but it’s always one of those things where I think — do I really want to hassle with a place that just offers giant double deckers? Well, I happened to be craving a giant double decker, and was meeting a friend that felt the same. So we ordered carry out for me to pick up and bring to his place. Here was my order: BLT with extra bacon Fries Double decker of turkey and roast beef with tomato According to their menu that should be right around $ 17(They don’t have the Turkey & roast beef or the cost of extra bacon listed, but double meat sandwiches are $ 7 so I figure 2 $ 7 sandwiches, a $.50 upcharge for tomato, and a $ 2.25 order of fries). The woman who ansewered didn’t give me a price when I ordered, but said it’d be ready in around 15 minutes. I showed up in 12 and it was ready, great! Except 1. the price was $ 21 and some change. Uh what? How do you figure? They told me it was $ 9 for each sandwich, how the hell is a roast beef and ham is $ 7, a turkey and ham is $ 7, but a turkey and roast beef is $ 9? Anyways, the other problem? The fries were cold and soggy with old grease. Oh well, had somewhere to be, let me get out of here. Get to my friend’s spot and guess what, none of those 50 cent tomatoes to be found! They did load up the extra bacon on the BLT, and they gave me a giant portion of roast beef, so that’s all well and good, but really… the sandwich was nothing special. The roast beef tasted like chip beef, just shaved off in pieces, the turkey was same old lunch meat you’d get anywhere else, and the cost(which the serving for the $ 7 would be great) left a lot to be desired. All in all, it wasn’t the worst meal, but I won’t be going back any time soon.

Nothing I write would be due justice for J&J’s. Best double-decker sandwiches in Cincinnati. Such a hidden gem. I always get the same thing when I go– a bacon & cheese double decker with lettuce. Has been around since I can remember, which says more than I can say about how charming this place is. The severs are so sweet and attentive. I can’t go to Cincinnati and not stop at J&J’s.

This place should be called J &NAP restaurant because after you leave here, you will need a good long sleep to recover from what you just did to your body. A no frills diner, located in a chain filled shopping center, that has a line out the door? You know it’s good! I’ve had this bookmarked on Unilocal for a while now and finally made it over here to check this place out. We came for breakfast and this place was a mad house. Filled with locals and old timers talking politics it was great for people watching! We ordered a Ham & Cheese Omelet and a BLT with a fried egg on it. The omelet was so big it needed two plates to be carried out. This thing is MONSTER status and the biggest I have ever seen. But you know what? It was cooked to perfection! FINALLY someone knows how to make a decent omelet. And it was stuffed to the brim with cheese that you almost choked on every bite(that’s a good thing — look at the pictures, it’s insane.) The BLT was the smallest double decker they had according to the server, and it was still gigantic. The bacon had nice flavor, but there was very little balance to the sammie. I love me some bacon, but I need a good balance, just like a burg, of lettuce, tomato, bread. In my opinion that is what makes a good BLT. Still a decent sammie at a price where you feel like you are robbing them blind. Some things I noticed — — The egg salad looked LEGIT and all of the locals were ordering it. — The double deckers are the size of a pumpkin. — It’s cash only so come prepared, or use the ATM inside. This place is definitely on my list of best diners, and I can’t wait to come back and order one of those double decker monsters for lunch!

My mom has been coming here since she was a little girl and once I was born she began to take me. I absolutely love this restaurant and it’s so underrated! You get huge portions of food for a great price. Excellent service and delicious food! Double deckers are my favorite.

I love this place. I have taken many friends here and made them fans of it too. The chips and cheese are amazing. The Double Decker’s are huge and very well priced. The hamburgers are great as well! I am not as big of their chili, seems to be lacking something for me but I am a die hardcore fan of Skyline chili. I feel like I have had the same two waitress for years of going to the restaurant. They have always been very friendly. The only major downside is they are cash only. Kind of stinks on that but they do have an ATM in the building now. Also there is PNC is across the street. If you are a westsider, I would recommend checking them out!

I went to J & J pretty excited because of the good reviews. WHAT A LETDOWN!!! To say the least, the waitresses were rude and unfriendly. When it comes to the food, well… I pointed to the $ 4.80 turkey sandwich and asked for tomatoes on it. The waitress didn’t even bother to tell me that ordering a tomato on my sandwich automatically uncharged me to the $ 8 sandwich. Would have been nice to know that getting a stupid tomato on your sandwich costed an extra $ 3!!! Also they forgot to put the pickles on my sandwich and the chips that were supposed to come with it(chips are supposed to come with the $ 8 option which I supposedly ordered when I asked for a tomato…) NEVERGOINGTHEREAGAIN! RIPOFF!!!

This is a family owned restaurant that I have gone to for over 20 years. I live a half hour away now and make it a point to stop by anytime I am on that side of town. This is a cash only place(use old antique cash register, its neat). They do have an ATM in the place however. The double deckers are what I get every time I go. The sandwich is hard to eat for some without taking some of the meat. Portion size is NEVER an issue here and leftovers are always nice to have from this place. I love it. Its a simple place where you can get any type of American style food but the rave is without a doubt in their sandwiches.

Huge portions, cheap food, and pretty good service. It’s all you need to know about this place. The sandwiches are monsters. You can share pretty much any of them unless you have a huge appetite. The breakfast options are good for the price. If you get the potatoes with the breakfast you will have an entire plate of them. Again enough to share. I actually find their Cincinnati style chili 4 ways to be very good. It’s actually my go to order at this place. I find I like it as an alternative to Skyline every once in a while. They are closed on Sunday’s and you need to have cash on you or at least be prepared to hit the ATM.

Upon a quick glance, the West side doesn’t seem to offer any great culinary discoveries. This observation is often times from the out-of-towners and East-siders who have mistakenly trodded their way past I-75 into unknown territory. These people are sorely mistaken — mostly due to mom and pop restuarants like J & J’s. Hidden in a strip mall that’s shielded from the dense Glenway traffic by a bank and sunglasses hut, J & J’s is a little place that serves AMAZING double-decker sandwiches. It seems fairly simple, but their half turkey, half roast beef with all the fix-ins(tomato, lettuce and mayo) on rye bread just hits the spot sometime. What easily feels like a sandwich with a half pound of freshly, shaved lunch meat, a J & J’s double decker is quite satisfying. If you’re looking to lighten the load, ask for half turkey and half tomato — in which half of the double decker is filled with freshly sliced tomatoes. Delicious AND refreshing!

I have been going to this restaurant since I was a little girl before they re built the store. I have always lived this place it’s one if my favorite restaurants for sure! Very tasty food, very friendly staff, they know my mother and I very well. They have watched me grown up to a young woman I am. They are kind of like family to me and I’m sure would love to meet a lot of new people! Great service, great food, nice place! I would recommend it! They only take cash! :)

J & J is a one of the many mom and pop gems found in the Westside. If you are ever hungry for the biggest double decker your eyes can see this is the place to go. There is more meat on my sandwich than what I normally pack for lunch all week. I usually get the turkey and roast beef along with an order of chili cheese home fries. The sandwiches come with your choice of a variety of different breads. Just to give a hint of how old school the restaurant is, they just now recently started taking credit cards. There Cincinnati chili is delicious if it was not for the famous double deckers the chili would be their claim to fame.

A Westside food staple for many years. If this place isn’t in your weekly food rotation then you’re doing it wrong plain and simple. I get the Turkey&Turkey double decker with cheese lettuce and tomato. It’s friggin delicious and huge. Here I’ll even post a picture of how friggin huge it is… Hang on.

Went here last Thursday(1÷5÷12) for lunch with my dad. The place is always packed and when eating it looks like people are eye eating the food on table, at least it has seemed like that to me. Onto the food, I ordered a BLT Double Decker and cheese coney. The double decker was good as was the coney. The waitress must have had a bad day, as she only came over to drop off the check.

A few years back, my stepdad worked in Western Hills and he took me here for lunch. J&J Restaurant, an old Glenway Avenue favorite. It’s right across from Western Hills Plaza between Werk Rd and Glenway Ave. I have eaten here many times and every time it’s been amazing. Try the Mustang, named after Western Hills’ sports team, it is one of the most popular items on the menu. Grilled ham, tomato, lettuce, cheese, and mayonnaise on a sesame seed bun. It’s also very inexpensive too, nothing special, although I wish they never would have torn down the old location with the wood paneling with the old school charm. At least they kept the old fashioned cash register when the new location was built, and the servers all know you by name, I love that. I also forgot, during dinner, be prepared to wait 10+ minutes for a booth, that’s how small this place is, but the wait I guarantee is worth it. Try it, you won’t be disappointed. And, don’t forget cash– they don’t accept plastic. They have an ATM if needed, and they’re also closed on Sundays.
