I’ve noticed a change recently while eating dinner at home. My wife made tacos. I went to grab the bag of cheese. The label called it «Authentic Hispanic Blend». It use to be called«Mexican Cheese» and before that — going back several years — it was simply called«Taco Cheese». It’s the cheese non-Hispanics buy when they brown beef, put in that little space packet you buy at Krogers, add water and toss the results into a floor tortilla and call it a taco. There’s nothing«authentic» about it the particular Hispanic blend I was eating. Why’d they call it that? Anyway, that’s what I was thinking about as I entered this particular«Mexican Grill». But that’s fine. We all know it’s not authentic but we know we’ll get something flavorful. And this place delivered. For about $ 6.50 I got a nice lunch that didn’t load me down with grease or potatoes. I had the fajita Ranchera Burrito. I had it at about two. When I walk into a place like this at 2:00 I expect I’ll be served the left over dregs from the lunch rush. Nope. The flavors were bright and vibrant and not overwhelming to my sensitive gringo tastes. I thought ti was a bad copy of a Chipotle with a higher mark up. Nope again. Actually larger portions(as if that’s needed) but a fresher taste. I’ll be going again in lieu of that other place. The restaurant was very clean and the burrito makes were nice and friendly. But this is a new location so we’ll see what happens to those nice attitudes. They won me over.
