I survived a «Killer Kim» Jazzercise class with not only my dignity but the good feeling that comes after a workout. The instructor, Kim Henry-Kuehn has been teaching Jazzercise for over 20 years, so she knows a thing or two about keeping people in shape. I came directly from work and changed in the bathroom. I would have enjoyed a coat hook or two so that I didn’t have to set my stuff on the floor. No big deal. The check in process involved little more than me signing a waiver in case I pulled a hamstring or something. This month(March) is bring a friend free Tuesday I believe. There are specials and deals that change frequently so check their site for more info. The 60 minute workout consisted of a warmup, 30 minute aerobic workout followed by a weights section and then cool down. Honestly, it was less of a challenge than I thought it would be, but I do have a bit of calf pain from some of the jumping movements. Good! The doors were left open which provided a nice breeze that kept everyone cool. Once you get the routine down, you can really make the workout harder, I was glad that I could keep up for the most part. The moves aren’t too feminine but occasionally I was glad I was in the back of the class. Guys, if you go, don’t try the heaviest weights(8 lbs) unless you are in decent shape. Jazzercise focuses more on reps than small sets with heavy weights. I wish the ab workout would have been a little more intense, it felt more like an afterthought in the routine. The music was great, as far as my exercise music tastes go. Lots of top 40 and the occasional slower song made the time go fast. Whatever you do to keep in shape, the key is to be consistent. I think Jazzercise makes it easy to find a convenient time and location, so kudos to them for keeping people in shape. I was glad to take a break from Unilocaling and have the opportunity to switch up my workout.

Most gyms have what I call«Man Land», an area where the testosterone-protein fueled guys grunt and strut around like peacocks. Jazzercise is a place where people of all body types and ages can workout without feeling self conscious. I have been doing Jazzercise since I was 14 years old and have never tired of it! Every class is different because the routines and music change so regularly. Its as close to going to a dance club as exercising can get. Many people worry about not being able to follow along with the routines, but they shouldn’t. It takes about a week to get the basic moves down and after that routines are easy to pick up with the guidance of the instructor. If you want to learn some of the basic moves before you come, check out these excellent videos: Depending on how hard you work, you can burn up to 600 calories in a one hour class! The class includes about 40 minutes of aerobics and 20 minutes of stretching and sculpting(arms, abs, and legs). No matter what your fitness level, you will feel the(good) burn at Jazzercise. Talking specifically about this location… It is located in a strip mall in Delhi across from Dueber’s Automotive. It is easy to find and there is always plenty of parking. Facilities are clean and well-maintained. There are three instructors that teach at different times. Kim, the owner of the location, teaches the 4:20 and 5:30 classes during the week and the Saturday and Sunday morning classes. She is high energy and knows how to push you to a great work out! The class times are really convenient for me. As a teacher, I can go straight from school to the 4:20pm class. It keeps me from going home and getting lazy and skipping class! I am a walking advertisement for Jazzercise. I have tried almost every fitness program out there and this is the only one that gives me a great workout but keeps me from getting bored. Try it for a week, you will find out you love it!
