Shimmers

Thought I’d try something local. I was the only customers standing at the window. Waited a while for someone to take my order. I ordered a caramel mocha, told him I’d drive to the window to wait (it was a cold wind). Returned to my car, drove to the drive up window to wait for it. Waited at least 5 minutes before I got it. I was expecting it to taste great. I was expecting too much because it was horrible. I’d rather get a mocha from the convenient store even though I don’t get them from there. Dunkin’ Donuts will retain my business.

The coffee was absolutely the best coffee I’ve ever had. It did have subtle blueberry notes and was so smooth. I never thought I could find coffee that would make me swoon — but Demitasse provided just such an experience. Fantastic coffee.

Love love love Shimmers! Not only are the sno cones delicious, the smoothies are not to be missed. In the winter, try a gourmet hot chocolate. You won’t regret it!

I love that this location is open year round. The staff is always friendly and the flavors are always delicious. I wasn’t sure about a couple flavors, so they gave me free samples to try it out first, which I appreciated. I wound up choosing my go-to…the margarita. With flavor add ins on the menu, I decided to get sea salt with it, which was a fantastic combination. The only downside, and the only reason this is getting four stars, is because in spite of it being open year round with a store front as opposed to a little shack, there is no indoor seating. There is a drive thru, a table, and a couple benches. I’m hoping that changes in the future.

This Shimmers is open year ’round! I feel like that this is the only dream in my 23 years of life that has actually come true. While I feel the ‘magic’ of summer is somewhat tarnished now that I can get a snocone any time of the year… wait, no. Actually, there is no magic in summer. I hate it. Snocones are the only thing that makes summer tolerable. So now summer can –completely– EAT IT.
This location is only two miles away from my home and while the one on NW Expressway is closer, this particular building is in a perfect spot since I travel that way often (did I mention the year ’round part?). For the time being, they only have a drive-​thru, but they are working on opening the inside (this is the building where Cherry’s used to be. In fact, at the time of this review the Cherry’s sign is still there). When my boyfriend and I went today, the owner of Shimmers, Amy McSwane, was there. She is SO nice! It was obvious that she greatly enjoys what she does and it’s a treat to interact with her. Great service+Great product, yo.
I could go on about what all they have, but the website listed has everything on there. They also have a Facebook page and a Twitter (I follow them on Facebook, because I made a conscious decision not to Twitterz) that posts updates about their hours (due to weather or otherwise) and even little deals from time to time. Such as, today was $ 0.50 off snocones (individually) if you follow them.
I’ve only been to 2 of the 4 locations, but I’m willing to bet the other two are just as great.
