I’m not sure if you should think of Red Rooster as a good ol boy bar, or a hipster dive bar — if you consider those to be different things. Regardless, the people watching alone make it worth going once! This is pretty off the beaten path for the area. It is technically in the paseo, but outside of what most people would consider the«paseo district» The bar itself is pretty small, and laid back. It’s a nice place to go just have a few beers with a couple friends, when you don’t want to have to shout over a bunch of people. The only reason I probably wont return is that it’s a smoking bar with very little ventilation.

Red Rooster is a neat little dive bar in the Paseo that I was not aware of, simply because it’s on Walker and not in «Paseo proper»(I made that up – I don’t think anyone else other than me would call it Paseo Proper). According to their website, it’s one of the oldest bars in Oklahoma City. How neat! I really enjoyed the ambiance here on a Thursday night. Not too crowded, not too loud — just some people kicking back drinks, playing pool, and having a good time. The music selection wasn’t bad either. The atmosphere was low-key and laidback, which I quite enjoyed. The downside for me is that it’s a smoking bar, so you’ll come home reeking of eau de cigarette, hence the slightly lower rating that I would’ve given normally; however, it was still a fun place to hang out with friends.
