I stumbled upon Nhu Lan when looking for a bahn mi. I was not expecting to find the glory that they offer sitting next to the register just waiting to be devoured. Oh boy oh boy oh boy. The store front on the west part of a small business strip with some painting on the glass. There is not much seating, but there is usually a spot open the times I have come. They have a tv, and the parking lot is adequate. They also offer roasted duck and chicken. The roasted food here is far better than other places in the surrounding area who offer the same options. The bahn mi was great, but is not the reason for any future visits here. They also have great sweet rice cakes surrounding the checkout counter as well as other types of sweets. They have a vertical cooler with common and uncommon drinks and sweets as well.

I’ve had this place on my «try to» bookmark for awhile and I was finally able to give it a try. The place is very small and does not look like it can accommodate many customers if they do decide to dine in. I ordered the Banh Cuon to go and it was listed as $ 6/lbs. I told the guy I wanted just 1 pound and he said that wouldn’t be enough food for me to eat. I thought that was a bit silly so I just went ahead and got 2 lbs totaling the cost to $ 12. In Joy’s review below she mentioned the minimum purchase for CC is $ 10, I did not know this and I didn’t see it listed anywhere. Thinking back about it, I think the reason why the guy said 1 lbs isn’t enough food is maybe because he wanted me to spend more money(past $ 10 for CC). Overall, I thought the banh cuon was pretty good. I thought their fish sauce was a bit salty so I didn’t like it that much. Good thing I always have some fish sauce ready at home to use.

The famous banh cuon was not warm even though the cook took 15 minutes to prepared the takeout which she claimed was freshly made. Flavor wise it was nothing special compared to what we get in the Vietnamese stores. Portion was small for a large order and cost $ 9.75. By the way, make sure you get your receipt otherwise you will be charged twice!!! I would not reccomend this place. If you crave banh cuon, just go into the restaurant.

I love this place for rice cake(bánh uot) and rice rolled cake(bánh cuon). They make it fresh. This is also a good place to order food for parties like fried rice, roasted pork(which I think I like the flavor and texture of the pork here the most among Asian restaurants in Okc), shrimp and pork salad, rice cake and rice roll cake, etc. Large trays are about $ 40. Small trays are about $ 20. So convenient! If I have some company over, I just call them and pick up. Done deal! One more thing I love about this place is yogurt and rice wine. Yes! Rice wine. They come with 2 types: black one and brown one. Personally, I like the black one because it is stronger and the texture of the rice is a little bit crunchier. So, if you want to get a little bit tipsy in the office, take a rice wine to go. Who knows it has wine? Eating there was actually a nice experience. It was like a return of time in Vietnam with nice and friendly service. Their hot tea was pretty good with real loose leaves, not the nasty tea bags. Quiet place!

Great banh mi and banh uot! This shop is like stepping into a shop you’d find in Vietnam. The people are so friendly. They make specialty vietnamese meats, which is hard to find. They have great BBQ duck and pork belly. Worth trying. It’s mostly a take out place, although they do offer seating. Nice people.

I was determined to try Nhu Lan after reading that they were known for banh cuon, one of my favorite Vietnamese dishes. They were near closing when I arrived, so I ordered the banh cuon dac biet to go. In short, I was very pleased. The food was flavorful and well worth the price.

Nhu Lan is a family owned and run food store(I wouldn’t call it a restaurant per se because they only offer a few things). Everything here is home made, which is nice! They are indeed known for their banh cuon and banh uoc(banh uoc is the same thing as banh cuon but minus the filling). Their biggest sellers are probably their roasted duck and roasted pig. Yum! They’re always cooked perfectly with the skin nice and crispy. Vietnamese sandwiches are priced starting at $ 2.50, up to $ 3.50 for the ones with their roasted duck /pig. They also make their own cha lua(Vietnamese ham) of various varieties, pig ear, and meat balls. There are also some snack items you can purchase as well. For those money savers, there are a lot of items where you can buy 5 and get 1 free. Don’t forget your nuoc mam(fish sauce)! The interior could use a little sprucing up — minus one star.

I suggest you bring cash here unless you’re ready to order about $ 10.00 worth of food. That’s the minimum for CC purchases. Small little place that is very sparse. Sandwiches are cheap as stated by Vivian. Looks like they are known for their banh cuon(Wikipedia describes it as: Bánh cuon is a rice noodle roll made from a thin, wide sheet of steamed fermented [2] rice batter filled with seasoned ground pork, minced wood ear mushroom, and minced shallots. Sides for this dish usually consist of ch la(Vietnamese pork sausage), sliced cucumber, and bean sprouts, with the dipping sauce called nuoc mam(fish sauce).
