I don’t know what it is about the breweries in OKC, but they were all mostly meh experiences. I like the fact that they gave free samples of a couple beers, but their DIPA beer was not impressive at all, their stout/porter was mediocre and their Gold Ale was not good. Only their Apricot flavored beer was something I wouldn’t regret ordering in a restaurant, but even that wasn’t outstanding or anything. Oh they share their space with Elk Valley Brewing(?) and those beers were not good either.

I love beer. I love Mustang beer. I got the chance to go to the Mustang grand re-opening and was treated to an assortment of different beers… all of which I enjoyed. The crew over at Mustang are really chill and have a real passion for good, local beer. The event was better than I anticipated and was just a really fun experience. Whilst I was there, I was able to meet one of my new friends, Chris… who is a brewer for Mustang. He gave me a brief overview of each beer I tried and provided me with what I like to call, «beer knowledge.» If you ever meet him, give him a high five. He’s a cool cat and can teach you up on some beer. Overall, Mustang is kicking major ass in the beer world. I’m a big fan and always will be.

Mustang Brewery has a great tap room! I visited for the first time during their Grand Reopening last week. They had 9 exclusive beers on tap to sample, most of which aren’t available in stores yet. It was a bit crowded, but not uncomfortably so. Mustang also supports local events and is a great ambassador for OKC. They have several staple beers including wheat and lager but are also expanding to appeal to a more creative palette. I’m excited to have more of these new beers available!

These guys are AMAZING! I’m no beer aficionado, but I know what I like and the fine brewers at the Mustang Brewing Company know how to deliver on what I like. if you have a spare hour on a Friday after work you could do much worse than dropping $ 5 on four 3oz samples of the latest and greatest here. The two times I’ve been so far it turns into a full house of people enjoying some good beer and talking with people who truly seem to love their craft. The folks at Mustang seem to genuinely enjoy what they’re doing and want to share it with the world. They’re always up for answering questions and giving you info about what the flavor profiles in this brew or that one is. These are some fine gentleman who I’d enjoy nothing more than learning about the finer arts of brewing with while kicking back and enjoying a nice cold beer. Did I mention you get to keep the glass? Seriously, first and third Friday of every month. A pint of beer, some good company, and an awesome glass. What’s not to love?

I am really stoked that the brewery is only less than a 15 minute drive from my home. They do tasting and tours every 1st and 3rd Friday of the month, from 4pm-7pm on a first come first serve basis(they do it in rotation, not just one tour during the time frame, and it seemed like there will always be a spot for someone coming in). The small little informative tour they give is free, and the tasting is $ 5, which includes four samples of 3oz of whatever beers they have on tap or on hand(four different or whatever you like), and you keep the pint glass. The inside looks great and feels really inviting and relaxed. Upon entering is the little bar/sports room with barrels for tables and stools, and candles in a glass stacked with Mustang bottle caps. Just to the right of that is the Holy Grail where the greatness begins — the bar. For the tasting, you’re given 4 tickets to keep track of how many you get, and then have your choice of anything they have available. We were told that if you were to come at least once a month, there would be a new beer on rotation, and for $ 5 a tasting round with a pint glass, that sounds fine to me. Personally, the four I sampled are ones that you won’t find in any restaurant or liquor store: East Coast IPA, Baltic Porter, Smoky Amber, and Hoplahoma(coming out soon?). I really enjoyed all of them, and I can see myself wanting more East Coast IPA(even though I didn’t think I liked IPAs very much) and Smoky Amber… probably Hoplahoma, okay. I liked the porter, but dark beers in general are a little much for me, but if that’s your thing, there ya go! They also had their usuals to choose from like Washita Wheat, Winter Lager, Harvest Lager, ’66, and their saddlebag Brandy’s Imperial Sundae. Aside from great beer and atmosphere, the Mustang crew are awesome! Great bunch of guys(and gal) that know their stuff and really love to share it with their fans. Being as close and cheap as it is, I can see this is being a monthly or bimonthly thing for me and the guyman. I’m hoping that Oklahoma loosens up more and more on their liquor laws so that brewery can have a little more freedom of what they can serve and do.
