Mitchener & Farrand Fine Jewelry

My first visit into this store was earlier this year. By now, I feel like one of the gang. There is a sweet woman who is ALWAYS there and recognizes me. I trust her expertise. AJ is one of the masterminds behind those amazing pieces of art. He has built a beautiful ring for myself (after many appointments designing it) resized an antique opal ring that was handed down to my grandmother, then me. He is so patient and has great ideas. He really enjoys getting to know the customers before building their jewelry. I don’t think I’ll ever go to another jewelry store!

My engagement ring was designed and purchased here without my knowledge. It was a beautiful, emotion filled surprise! My center stone was carefully sourced and a lot of thought was put into making my ring very special. I have Dave to thank for that :)
Normally I come to get my jewelry cleaned, but recently I purchased a rose gold band for my soon to be husband. In terms of locally owned jewelry stores, I’ve only visited BC Clark and Mitchener & Farrand. It’s not fair to compare the two because they’re different in many ways.
I feel like M&F is more boutique like with some exclusive pieces (Thunder jewelry for instance) and the ForeverAfter diamond (8 pointed star in the center, 81 facets instead of the 57). When purchasing jewelry on a budget, do your homework. This place isn’t cheap but I feel you pay for what you get in terms of customer service and a quality product.
I’m in love with my ring and cannot wait to add some dazzling bands to the mix.

Saw their ad in the Gazette and stopped in. They have a great selection and were easy to deal with.

I have never had a bad experience there. Whether it is just needing a battery for a watch or buying a gift for myself or a friend. They also did a great job helping my husband decide on a watch he wanted. Very friendly non pressure place to shop.

My fiancée and I went here yesterday to have my engagement and wedding ring custom made with diamonds my mother wore from my father for twenty years.
The place was very clean, sparkling and beautiful. Dave the jeweler was there and I told him exactly what I wanted. He weighed my diamonds, weighed my gold, valued my jewelry and was able to tell me to the penny how much the entire thing would cost, what it would entail and how long it would take. Not only that but he was extremely personable and friendly.
However, after doing our research, we found out that they were going to try and charge us exactly 49% more for the cost of the gold than the gold is actually worth. Very disappointing and dishonest. Gold is worth its weight. I can understand charging an extra 5−10% so they can make a profit but 49% is out of this world. We felt that this was very shady, underhanded and dishonest of them so we will not use them for anything. At this point, I don’t trust them to not switch out my perfect quality diamonds for something crappier and hope I don’t notice.

My husband designed and bought my engagement ring from Mitchener & Farrand and we both could not be happier. The diamonds & setting are perfect. We went in a couple of months before our wedding to order my matching wedding band and they were so helpful and accomodating. Since we live in Chicago they fedexed the ring to us in time for our wedding.
Now if only I could convince my husband that I need more diamonds…
