I’ve eaten here several times for lunch. I have a friend that works nearby, so this is a great choice if your time is limited… Although, I like lingering over a long lunch, because this place feels homey and reminds me of eating at my relatives homes. Also, the food is beyond delicious. Nothing I’ve eaten was less than stellar. You also get a lot of food for the money, portion sizes are large here! Mvto(thank you!) MamaE’s family for such good eats!

I had to drop it down a star I went back a couple weeks later and again a couple days ago, and the sides just weren’t like it was the first time we went. The Mac N Cheese again was cool, almost«cold» not hot at all… The made to order food, is always on point! Fresh…

Fried chicken is extremely well seasoned and tastes even better! This place has gotten rave reviews from my fellow co-workers and as far as the chicken is concerned, rightfully so. We dined in for lunch today(1÷14÷16). The staff was a little disorganized at opening and took about 25 minutes to get our food after ordering. The positive to this, the chicken was piping hot and it was assistant it was freshly battered and fried upon ordering. I ordered the wing basket, which came with 4 large fried wings, two sides, and a piece of cornbread. I got the collard greens and Mac n cheese. The greens were some of the best I’ve had at a soul food restaraunt. The Mac and cheese, today, left more to be desired. It was borderline cold and really runny. This issue can be fixed easily, though. I might have just been the victim of a bad batch. The corn bread muffin wasnt very flavorful either and really dry. You can tell it was a cheap and quick batter. Overall, it was slightly above average, but mainly because the chicken was superb. For this place to have been featured on multiple TV shows, I guess I expected slightly better.

My mom and I had the pleasure of enjoying some true soul food of OKC. We will most definitely stop back in for some more catfish next time we drive through OKC! Great service and friendly staff!

Good home cookin! Soul food at its best. If you are expecting fancy, you are in the wrong place. Here they pour all they have into amazing baked chicken, collard greens, mac n cheese, complete with kool aid to drink. Save room for a piece of pie too! The staff are friendly and willing to help those who may not be familiar with soul food.

Lived up to the hype!!! I’m from Connecticut and boy do I wish we had someplace as good as this back home. The fried chicken was delicious. The smothered chicken fell off the bone. Mmmm. The macaroni and cheese was on point. Everything was good. I even ate my wife’s piece of peach cobbler and I don’t usually like peach cobbler lol Don’t go here if you’re on a diet. LoL

We love us some Mama’s chicken & waffles. Super nice folks. They have been busy since we were here last. Lots of paint and remodeling. They been featured on Diners, Drive in’s & Drives. Now the tv show on tbe Food channel«Transformed«came thru. Same good food, and for a good cause. Come on by and ask them.

I absolutely loved the chicken and waffles! Three decent sized chicken wings and a delicious waffle. You have a choice of a side, which i decided to get mac n cheese and it did not disappoint. We’re from Dallas and decided to take a trip to OKC. While looking for a place to eat a friend who formerly lived in OKC highly recommended Mama E’s. I have to admit the exterior of the restaurant made me think twice about stepping foot inside but we still went for it and we are glad we did. It is a great place to eat with great service. We will definitely make the trip down to OKC just to eat here again!

I wish I could give it more stars! The food was amazing– we stopped during our road trip on the way there and had to stop on the way back! Big servings and everything is delicious. Chicken and waffles– and catfish were our favorites. The batter on each was perfect.

Mama E’s…Signature Special Chicken and Waffles to me is the BEST in OKC!!! The seasoning on this chicken is so good, it’s ridiculous. I must say, the service was extraordinary. They not only served us through then line but kept checking with us at the table to see if we needed anything. Very friendly staff. This was my first visit since it had been remodeled and I totally love the updates, it seems more spacious and it definitely has a fresh look, yet because it is small, it gives you that feeling of home like family dinner type environment.

The food was fantastic, décor was great and the people working were happy, helpful and very customer-centric. I had the baked chicken, Mac n cheese, collard greens and mashed potatoes. Everything was fresh and deliciously homemade. I’m here on business and will definitely come back on my next trip out.

I popped in and had some cake. I can tell you that it smells terrific in here. It’s clean and green thanks the the chef Irvine conversion. I just ate across town but I wanted to add another TV Joint to my list. People are really enjoying their food. I’m digging the lemon cake and I got a price of strawberry too it’s good but I like the lemon better. Been here had something and I wish I had more time in Town to try the wings and waffles.

Menu says four wings but these are huge turkey sized chicken wings. The waffle is huge, heavy, doughy(buckwheat?), hot, freshly made, and satisfying. I could not muster more than three or four bites. The sides: the greens smoky and well done, the mac and cheese, yum. The banana pie cake, I could only taste, I was so full from the meal, and was just junky enough in the right way. The best part are the people working here who are really nice and will make effort to be welcoming to newcomers(we are Asian American from the East Coast). Sure, looks a little scary from the outside, but inside, it’s homey and nice. Service is slow but that’s how it is in OKC.

I have driven past Mama E’s for years but have never given them a try, despite having seen them on Food Network’s Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives. Maybe it is the location, maybe the run down outside of the building, but I have never been brave enough to pay them a visit. A few weeks ago I saw that Restaurant Impossible would be in town giving them a remodel and I thought«now is my chance!». Three days after their big reveal I, with three of my friends, decided to grab lunch. First off, the new décor is fabulous! It is clean and modern. I especially liked the giant drawn chicken and recipes on the walls in the back room. Their use of beans and mason jars to decorate was also a nice touch. There was someone outside painting the porch when we arrived, so it seems they are trying to go the extra mile. However, there wasn’t a trash can in the men’s restroom and when my friend brought it to their attention they handed him a trashcan and asked him to put it in the bathroom. Fail. I was also grossed out but the amount of flies that were dead, or in the process of dying, on their window sills. It seemed like maybe they had just sprayed but there was at least, no exaggeration, 15 flys on one window sill. That doesn’t include the ones that were still flying around. I hope they keep the place clean and keep Robert’s improvements. As for the food, it was delicious! Three of us got the house special, which is the fried chicken and waffles. I was served 3 large wings that were piping hot, crispy, and well seasoned, though I added quite a bit of salt. The waffle wasn’t anything special and was very dense and soft, but it was decent. I also got a side of mac and cheese and it was the bomb! Very cheesy and creamy. One of my friends got sweet potatoes and the other got greens and both raved about their choices. The entire meal only set me back about $ 10, which I thought was reasonable. I look forward to going back and trying other items. They have a cafeteria style line buffet at the counter with several hot items of the day. I am honestly surprised that Irvin kept the buffet, but the food on it seemed hot and frequently refreshed. The service at Mama E’s left a bit to be desired. The owner was charismatic and friendly but the rest of the employees, who seemed to be family, lacked zeal and were curt. Orders are placed and paid for at the counter and then the food is brought to tables when ready, so there isn’t much employee/customer interaction. The older woman who took my payment wasn’t very focused on me and was more so worried about what was going on in the kitchen. And our server who brought our drinks kept forgetting to bring napkins and refills when we asked her. The owner came to our table though and chatted with us. When I asked her about the filming experience she said«just wait until you see the show. It was tough and Robert is just mean!» I can only imagine the kinds of things he found in there and I look forward to seeing the episode air. All in all my experience was decent and better than expected. A solid 3 star rating. I look forward to trying them a few more times and will update my review accordingly. The show airs on Food Network November 24th at 9pm.

I recently moved out of state and I made Mama E’s my last meal in Oklahoma… nothing else really needs to be said. However I will go ahead and tell you a little bit about this place… Get the waffles and wings. That’s what they are famous for and that’s why the Food Network came out and showcased them on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. They also have delicious soul food… collard greens, roasted chicken, pork chops, pigs feet, corn bread, etc. The service here is SO friendly… just tell them it’s your first time and they will give you a rundown of the entire menu. Once you’ve ordered just grab a kool-aid, find a seat, and they will bring your food out to you. It can be a little tricky to find the street but once you’re on it Mama E’s a bright yellow building and you can’t miss it. It’s a little hole-in-the-wall gem just down the street from Leo’s BBQ(also a great OKC staple). Don’t forget to sign your name on the wall on your way out!

All the reviews of this place mention the neighborhood, which I think is fairly ridiculous. I don’t give a shit where a place in located as long as the food is good, and the food is very good here. Also, the neighborhood isn’t that bad. Don’t make assumptions. But I digress. I got the two meat deal with gumbo and chicken. The chicken was fucking fantastic. It fell off the bone and was very juicy. The gumbo was also very good. I got greens and candied yams and also cheese and grits. All were good, although I realize now that I like grits with only butter in them. I also don’t give a shit about the décor of a restaurant for the most part. Cheever’s in the only place that I think has really impressed me with it’s layout. The décor here is pretty bare bones, but the food is really good. I did not try the neckbone though, because I am not ready for that just yet. One day I hope to be. Anyway, it was a little expensive and I thought it was all you can eat, and maybe it is. We got there a little after 4. But all in all, it was good and I would go back.

Mama E’s is my second shot at Chicken and Waffles. I have to say, the dish is rather delish. Sadly, I don’t think Mama E’s quite measures up to my first experience. A couple of friends and I came here one morning after. Morning after partying that is. The food hit just the right spot that needs a little attention after a night of abusing the liver. The place was on the East side of town which should give you a little idea of the place and people. Everything reminded me of those days of yore. That’d be the 90s that I’m referring to. The atmosphere was laid back and not much attention was spent on aesthetics or presentation. The customer service was friendly enough. They didn’t rush us when we had no idea what we wanted to order and they got our food out to us rather quickly. The menu was written in chalk — some erased due to wandering, curious, or maybe just mischievous, fingers. We all finally decided to just go with their infamous Wings and Waffles and kool-aide. The salad bar was entirely on ice, with put me off a little. I like my food to not give me food poisoning(don’t worry, I didn’t experience that disaster). The kool-aid was… kool-aid. I don’t really see the rationalization in charging as much for it since it is a pretty cheap drink from the grocery store. I thought that the wall writing was pretty interesting, and added my name like many before me in one of the few white spaces left. Though, the pillows adhered to the wall was a little weird. The place is pretty small, but it doesn’t seem to be a problem. There were only 3 groups including mine there. A friend had told me that Mama E’s was featured on the Food Network, and at first glance, I couldn’t really tell why. After eating there, I, personally, wouldn’t pass it on to Nation wide attention, but to each his own.

I like yellow and the color was welcoming me as we made a right turn towards the lone yellow house… We arrived at 11:00 am. There was a man standing outside the door and he said they were closed. Wha?! He laughed. He was joking: «I saw you had California plates and decided to mess with ya!» He walked us in and began to chit chat with my better half. I felt like we were old friends! A+ for customer service :) Wings and waffles, fried pork chop = Tasty town, crispy and fresh out of the fryer! I liked the flavor of the pork chop over the fried wings because it reminds me of the spicy/garlicy chicken wings you can get at a Hong Kong style café. The waffle is your average waffle. Not mindbottling, not terrible! Corn bread was hard and too dry for my liking. Collard greens were a little off putting and tasted kinda funny. They were confusing me– are they too salty or don’t have enough salt? *sigh* The food in the salad bar was sitting on top of a bunch of ice. All in all, this was a good experience. We spent about $ 23 for a meal for two.
