Tried to go here, but it had a sign posted saying it was closed due to a fire. Wondering if it will reopen? Anybody know?

I ate here a while ago and the food was good. this place lacks the younger crowd so be prepared for lots of older locals eating here. The food was up tot par we ordered a steak and some ribs and both were good. The service was good and efficient and the Unilocal deal helped efficiently.

As suspected, no response from management. Not surprising after the comment received regarding my broken wine glass. Needless to say, I will not return to this establishment.

What a treasure! I’ve lived here in Chula Vista for sixteen years. I’ve been going to the breakfast joint next door since I’ve lived here. I always meant to try this place but just never seemed to make it. Well, I went the other night and I’m so disappointed with myself. I should have been going here for sixteen years! This place is amazing. The decorum is what I expected. A very Godfather-ish feel which I love. Dark woods and furniture. I was expecting to see Marlon Brando in the back. The food was top notch! I had the New York strip and my girl had the prime rib. Both perfectly cooked and rested. The baked potato was loaded with heart attack inducing goodness. Our waitress was one of the best. Friendly and very attentive. Not once did I have to flag her down for more water or iced tea. She was readily on hand. Planning on coming here more and more. Go, just go and chow!

Amazing service :) I went in for my birthday and the staff were great! I ordered the ribeye 20 oz wowza and it was awesome, bacon wrapped! The manager gave my party a round of shots on the house, so sweet! I went on a Wednesday and they have live music. At the end of the night the whole restaurant sang happy birthday to me. A perfect ending. I would definitely recommend this place for parties or even am intimate dinner. Ask for Catalina awesome server

I have been coming here regularly for years. I am amazed at the selection of good food for lunch for $ 10, the quality of the food sometimes falters but 9⁄10 times it is very good. Try the zucchini and the skirt steak both great choices. Drinks are made well too. The bartender is good. I have read some bad reviews on here and anytime I have ever had a problem I ask the servers. They are all real good at correcting mistakes, just ask them. This is definitely a place you must try. Next time you want a steak dinner or a nice lunch stop here. Let others know here on Unilocal

Pros — server was nice, good size portions, group on deal($ 20 for $ 40 worth of food), easy parking, steakhouse platter(appetizer) had a good variety of zucchini, cut up steak pieces, calamari, chicken wings, and baked potatoes Cons — our entrees took awhile to come out, we had to ask for a refill of water twice which is a pet peeve of mines, the bowl of French onion soup came out cold, my steak didn’t wow me. Food prices without the group on deal Overall — I wouldn’t go back or recommend it

Nice atmosphere but been here for over 10 minutes waiting in the bar and NOONE has approached us asking what we want to drink! The manager finally came up to us gave us waters(I guess we don’t look 21) then ran off. I will commend him for giving us much more attention than the cocktail waitress and letting us know our table would be ready. I was almost ready to walk out the door and go across to Red Lobster when our table was ready. Our waitress was extremely friendly so I decided to suck it up and enjoy it, afterall I had a groupon and was going to have to use it eventually. The boyfriend and I ordered potato skins for an appetizer and the skirt steak for two. To me the potato skins were very bland(I like my potato skins to be covered in cheese and bacon) but they skimped on the toppings. The skirt steak was huge and delicious with the chimchurri sauce. We both got separate sides, I got mashed potatoes with veggies while he got a baked potato. I thought it was just okay, great for the groupon deal however they hiked up the prices because the price of the skirt steak for two and appetizer were under the price of the groupon yet I was charged over. I didn’t say anything because afterall its a groupon so what do you expect? My boyfriend thinks it was great, he loved the live music and steak so I guess we’ll be back.

I pass this steakhouse on a regular basis and have always been curious about the place so when a groupon popped up I jumped on it! The ambience is amazing! I felt like I was taken back to the days of the rat pack! I sat at the bar and had a wonderful bartender named Alex give me suggestions! I have to say her choices in food and cocktails where right on point! The ribeye was AMAZING and my first time having a Russian mule which was on point! Service was extremely fast and to top it off they had an awesome Cubano band playing! What’s not to love about this place! I definitely found my new favorite spot in Chula Vista! Weather for an outstanding meal or great cocktail you can’t go wrong with this hidden little gem! I’ll be visiting again very soon!

I was totally surprised when I walked in today for a late lunch. Did you know they offered a $ 10 Specials Lunch menu? And its served daily? What a total steal! The food was surreal with delicious flavors. I enjoyed the Chimichurri Skirt Steak– marinated skirt steak served with their signature chimichurri sauce served with fresh cut vegetables. Oh my gawd! The size and cut were just perfect, I cannot complain about a thing. This ISTHEPLACETODINE, I am definitely returning here, and on the regular. Can’t wait to come back!

I had a Groupon for this place so my brother and made a reservation for dinner. I emailed for the reservation and got a response right away. I came to this place once like 10 or so years ago when this place was under different management. I didn’t have any expectations since it was so long ago. There is plenty of parking in the back of the restaurant and the lot was pretty full for a Wednesday night. You have to walk around to the front of the building to get the entrance which is easy to miss. We were a bit early but we were greeted right away and and seated. This place is a classic old school steak house with dim lighting and lots of leather and wood. I love these old places. One of the immediate changes I noticed is that the new management changed the servers from old dudes to young hot female servers. Nice touch. Our server Andrea came and took or drink order and I told her about the Groupon which she said was no problem. We got a couple beers and ordered the Ribeye crackling as an appetizer. I was going to avoid the app, but this one seemed pretty unique. Their beer selection is decent but they have a full bar and specialty cocktails as well. The app arrived shortly and it was unique. It was deep fried chunks of ribeye served with an unusual lemon juice based sauce. Odd but it really worked. We decided on the Ancherra steak for two since. It comes with soup or salad and veggies for 2 as well as 2 sides. Since we had the app, this made more sense of my initial thought of a individual steak. We also ordered a creamed spinach as a side. I got the salad and it was a good caesar with plenty of cheese. My brother who is not a soup person got the Italian seafood soup and he really liked it. The steak arrived on a butcher board along with the sides in about 10 minutes. The steak was very flavorful for a skirt steak. It was well cooked and surprisingly tender. The chimmichurri sauce was good as well. The sides were plentiful and I was happy with everything. After our meal, Andrea processed our Groupon without any issues. I will definitely coming back to this place. The location, service and food were all great, I look forward to trying their bone in ribeye next and I defiently suggest sitting in Andrea’s section, she’s a great server! Stay sexy fellow Unilocalers!

Get the PORTERHOUSE, share it, get it medium, and you will have the best of both worlds. The bone in makes it worthy of it’s own star. Be careful of over loading on the hot bread… I could eat the whole basket in less than 10 seconds. This is the kind of place that your parents will love for a special occasion. If you want no muss, no fuss big red meat, this is the place in Chula Vista to get it. Traditional Steak & Potato place with the look over your shoulder mobster movie décor. However, when you look around, it’s all about Special Occasions here. There are big family groups and couples on their«splurge» dates which seems to be celebratory in nature. Spotting a couple where the women is dressed in her Sunday best next a booth where a guy is in a baseball cap with his beers in a bottle is the comfortable crowd here. Servers are rocking the short minis, red lips, and fishnets. It’s what it’s know for and it’s part of the ambiance along with the live crooner songs in the bar.

My boyfriend and I came here on a Saturday night, 7PM. Had around 3 – 4 other tables. Edit: I guess they serve complimentary bread with au jus for dipping? We NEVER got this… So I guess they were just completely awful with us in general… We have a Living Social deal and my boyfriend loves nice steak places so we gave this place a try for his birthday.(It had such great Unilocal reviews!) We called ahead for a reservation since we had the Living Social deal, they asked if we were celebrating anything and I told them it was my boyfriend’s birthday. Our waitress was friendly. All the waitresses dressed in relatively tight white blouses, short pencil skirts, and black stockings. My waitress’s skirt was up to her palms and her blouse was unbuttoned to *underneath* her tits(which were a decent size). I could see her bra! lol! She was the only waitress there with that much showing though. I guess it helps with the tips? I didn’t mind the free show: P Our appetizers came out, we had fried zucchini. They were delicious! Really, really good. Thin and crispy with Parmesan grated on top. Served with ranch dipping. Kind of expensive for what you get though. All the appetizers were $ 10-$ 15, and I didn’t think fried zucchini was worth that much but it’s a $$$ sign restaurant so I guess everything’s relatively expensive? Side salad with Italian dressing was okay. I had a strawberry lemonade, which was okay. I was charged for a refill, which I thought was weird because usually when the servers ask if you want a refill they’re bottomless drinks. Most places usually don’t give free refills for nicer drinks but I didn’t think this qualified as a «premium» drink: P That didn’t bother me too much but the thing that DID bother me was that when I got the check, I was charged for the lemonade and the strawberry separately. WTF? Now THAT’S something I’ve never seen before. So it was $ 3.50 for the lemonade and underneath that I was charged $ 4.00 for the strawberries. $ 7.50 for a non-alcaholic drink?(My boyfriend just had a water). Our entrée’s came, we ordered the 20 oz. prime rib, split. I saw the sign outside claiming to have america’s best prime rib so I had to try! :P We had it medium, and they cooked it right. Both of our steaks were –literally– 1⁄3 fat though :(It had WAY more fat than the pictures posted on Unilocal… Another annoyance we had though was that our steamed veggies were borderline raw and the mashed potatoes were cold.(The fries were hot though!) This was my first time ever, ever ever ever sending something back(I usually feel too rude to!) But I asked them to warm up my veggies a bit. Unfortunately im 90% sure they used the microwave… I’d prefer the oven… but that didn’t bother me TOO much. the thing that DID bother me was that they didn’t take the steak off T________T !! So my steak that was previously cooked to what I wanted it to be became super dry and no longer pink in the middle…(microwaves kill steaks!!) :(((((((((((((((We didn’t say anything else though didn’t wanna be rude… Our waitress stopped tending to us and went to the other table like 3 – 4 times before my boyfriend finally raised his hand for the check LOL. She probably forgot about us. It happens. She never brought the extra horse radish my bf asked for early on either :(but it was okay cause it turns out he didnt like it much(it apparently wasn’t very strong) Oh and though they asked if there was a special occasion they never said happy birthday to my bf :(I don’t mind that we didn’t get any free dessert but if you’re going to ask what the occasion is could at least say happy birthday o___O And I guess there was a 4 $ fee to split an entrée? Since the menu said the 20 oz. was just 30 $ but we were charged $ 34. Don’t think I’ve ever been charged to split an entrée either. So! To sum it up: The Good: –polite… but forgetful. No complimentary bread(didn’t even know they had that till read the other reviews) didn’t bring requested condiments, etc. –relatively fast, unless they forget about you –great zucchini! –my waitress’s boobies? :P The Bad: –my veggies were almost raw and mashed potatoes were cold :( –they microwaved to heat up, which made my juicy steak dry and no longer medium :/ –no acknowledgement of bf’s birthday –charged separately for lemonade and strawberries(even though there weren’t any real strawberries) =$ 7.50 for a non alcoholic drink?, charged for refill… –wouldn’t call it america’s best prime rib :/ –usually we expect better quality food at $$$ sign steak houses, but I’d say it’s the quality of a $$ with the price of a $$$. –4 $ fee to split an entrée ??? –No complimentary bread(didn’t even know they had that till read the other reviews) didn’t bring requested condiments, etc All in all, they were probably more off their game than usual(at least I hope? from what I read with other Unilocal reviews) but due to this we will not be returning…

I came by here the other day for lunch, and you know those reviews when you are stuck between the two whole numbers, well this is one of those review were I am settling right down the middle to a 3.5 stars. The food was good, good enough for me to come again, but it was not great enough, where you will find me running around telling all my friends, that they have to try it, but I would certainly not object in them in trying it, nor I accompanying them. Although they had a variety of $ 10 lunch specials on the menu( ), I decided on trying their $ 1712oz New York steak with a side of grilled vegetables and mashed potatoes.( ) Before my meal came out, my sweet waitress, Maricruz, brought me out a nice slab of buttered toasty bread and au-jus for dipping.( ) The bread was descent and the au-jus was tasty. The New York steak arrived with a nice caramelized exterior seer and from the looks of it, it was given the proper amount of time to rest. The steak was not aggressively seasoned, so I added a little coarse black pepper, but it was perfectly prepared to a medium rare as I requested.( ) Kudos for that for sure. Given the steak was allowed to rest, it had sustained plenty of its natural juices inside which certainly helped the steak’s flavor profile and texture.( ) A good steak. I had no complaints regarding the vegetables. The squash, carrots, and broccoli were all well prepared with a favorable seasoning.( ) The mashed potatoes were okay. They had good flavor, but they were a little dry and need some cream or butter to smooth them out.( ) If with the need of a few improvements, I like my meal and would return to try some prime rib, and with a few twist here and there, I would be a big fan. Although I am settling with a 3.5 average, I am rolling a 4 stars because there were more pros than cons…

Not bad… Not bad at all. Came here after diverting all plans to have dinner across the street at the Red Lobster joint due to a packed house on a Friday evening. Heading to The Steak House was merely a random decision(mind you, the best decision) since it was the first thing we noticed and became curious about trying for the first time. After many years of living in Chula Vista and having drove past this joint, I was familiar with its previous name«The Butcher Shop». Now known as «The Steak House» with a huge sign plastered on the side of the wall marking it’s territory as the«Biggest and best Prime Rib in San Diego», I just had to try it out for myself! Upon entering, the first thing you walk into is the bar. Not just the bar, but you are greeted by a band of folks strumming away entertaining patrons. It was a little unsual to be up close and personal as you walk in and wait to be seated by a host/hostess, but it wasn’t so bad. My party and I were seated right away towards the back of the restaurant as it seemed that around 7PM is when they start picking up. I really liked the large chairs and the ambiance of the place. The theme colors of the restaurant are bold colors of red and black. The lighting is very dim, but bright enough so you’re not blindly eating your food. Our server was very cordial and explained the menu entrees clearly. We ordered one big huge slab of Prime Rib that was wheeled over to our table by the chef and sliced to perfection. The table next to us was a bit shocked that we ordered such a huge serving, but hey, we devoured that juicy thing like ravenous dinosaurs craving a mass amount of protein. When your metabolism is high, you can eat wonders! On top of putting that Prime Rib in my belly, I ordered the Filet Mignon wrapped in bacon with Twice Baked Potato, veggies along with Clam Chowder soup, YUMMMMM!!! That is all! You better believe I made my cheat day worth it! On top of that, I enjoyed a nice glass of a Mojito that I’m so glad did not have a gang of sugar in it. Come to think of it, I didn’t even taste any sugar in that bad boy. It was like drinking alcohol straight up with mint leaves, but hey, I don’t mind since I’m the kind of person that eats my salads with no dressing, YUP! We were all pretty satisfied with our meals despite skipping out on dessert, but I think we did enough damage. I think this place has been holding up its own and if you have yet to visit this place, I’d say give it a try. It wouldn’t hurt to.

Came here with clients while in the area and was surprised to see this establishment has a new name. I had known this place to be «The Butcher Shop». The interior hasn’t changed much — it’s an old 70’s steak house feel with red vinyl booth seats and dark dated furniture. It’s very«dark» inside and you go blind for a short minute until your pupils adjust to the darkness. The lunch menu had salads, sandwiches, and lunch portions and prices. Had the BLT Sandwich which was okay, not great. The bread was a standard sliced wheat bread as you would find from a grocery store and really didn’t feel very much better than what I could make at home. This was very average in my opinion, and until next time, I will give it a fair 3 stars. Perhaps I will try the Prime Rib which I remember this to be the Butcher Shop’s forte.

Décor, dark leather, black & red from the Rat Pack era and the wait staff was dressed in sexy outfits absolutely cute! They were friendly & accommodating. Had the rib eye which was perfecto quality it melted with every bite. Had a ginger beer I’ve never seen before which was also very good and served with the option of a chilled glass. This place is old school classy and looking forward to coming back again to try more items.

So signing loan docs for this kid is a big deal. I decided as broke as I was to treat myself to a nice dinner since I hadn’t slept or ate for two days I decided to do so and do it right. I strolled into the steak house on a Friday around 8:30 pm before work. I was told to sit anywhere so I found a good booth in the front of the restaurant so I could people watch while enjoying my meal. Natasha was my waitress and was super sweet. I ordered a coke and water while I looked over the menu. They had a lot of meat up on there which made me happy that was what I was going in for. Ever since I cut a lot of meat out of my diet I have to sneak my steak in once in awhile. Shhh please don’t tell the girl about my secret steak escapade. I decided on the rib eye steak with blue cheese butter, mushrooms and twice baked potato, fresh veggies, salad and bread. OMG that cut of meat was not for the faint of heart. I ordered mine medium rare… dad taught me well. Cooked to bloody perfection I could only consume a bit because of my not feeling so hot. Oh you can believe I took that baby to work with me to snack on through the night while trying to stay awake. The blue cheese butter was blue cheese mixed in with butter, not bad but I probably could do without next time. Mushrooms tasty with my steak. I would have probably ordered a regular baked next time. I think I’m just partial to regular baked potatoes. The food was excellent but I was not a fan of the crème brûlée, it being my favorite desserts made me a little sad. It was a little too eggy. weird right. I didn’t make a fuss because they were so amazing they took very good care of me when I made a coupon error and made a fool of myself… Thanks to not sleeping. Ramon the manager came out was super sweet let me know the deal and didn’t make me feel like the fool I was. Thank you so much Ramon!!! Oh and Natasha was so sweet about it as well. I will definitely be returning for more secret steak escapades. PLEASEDON’T TELLTHEGIRL!

I ALWAYS look forward to restaurant week and it happens to land on one of the days that was my boyfriend and I’s 2 years anniversary and so narrowed down from all the other places we wanted to try and chose this place! We really liked the menu choices that they had for restaurant week so we gave this place a try. We made reservations but in reality we probably didn’t have to because when we arrived there were a lot of empty tables and the place is REALLY dimmed with lounge seats and it gave of the retro romantic atmosphere. So, we already knew what to order since we saw the menu online and so we did: –Appetizer: we both got the surf and turf appetizer which is a big shrimp on top of a small piece of filet mignon and a rosemary potato cake underneath. WOW it was divine with the juicy filet mingon piece, jumbo shrimp and a slight crunch from the potato cake. YUMO! We could just have eaten a big portion of this! –Entrée: I got the lobster risotto(I’ve never had a risotto before and always been wanting to try it) so I didn’t now how it was gonna be like texture and taste wise. But man oh man this risotto was full of lobster flavor! Beside the lobster tail on top the broth that was used to make the risotto I’m guessing was used to cook the lobster in. I’m in love with this risotto and I LOVE lobster! *My boyfriend got the prime rib dinner with the horseradish sauce and mashed potatoes and steamed veggies. WOW the prime rib was ever so SOFT, JUICY, and Melt in your mouth ! I really like the mashed potatoes(more smashed then mashed) and the horseradish sauce gave the prime rib a nice kick! –Dessert: I got the strawberry dipped in chocolate over some sort of pudding sauce, I forgot the name but both flavors melded nicely together! *My boyfriend got the bloode orange crème brûlée: the texture of it was silky and a bit more on the runny side but the blood orange really gave the traditional crème brûlée a nice twist! The crunch from the top when you break the burnt sugar is fun and gave a different texture to the crème brûlée. It’s not a crème brûlée without the burnt sugar on top! Overall the food was amazing, to me and my boyfriend at least! I really like restaurant week and how it gives us a chance to try other places without going overboard on spending!
