This place is decent, but a bit stingy. I really enjoyed the Butternut wine that I tried, but the food wasn’t that great. The atmosphere, however, is classy and very rustic. This is a fun place to come with girlfriends for just a night out for wine. Might come back if they get some other dishes on the menu.

I really wanted to like this place. They did a great job remodeling/redecorating what used to be a Blockbuster Video. There’s a very limited menu, which usually means they’ve chosen a few things to do really well. I ordered the quinoa salad and the rice paper rolls. The quinoa salad was ok, but a really small portion for the price. The rice paper rolls were so flavorless. They consisted of rice noodles and cabbage wrapped in rice paper. There was a thin, rice vinegar-based sauce on one side of the plate. These desperately need something in there to give them flavor. Avocado? Shrimp? Literally anything. Positives: The wine flights are a great idea, and fairly priced. I might go again to try the entrees, but I’m not super optimistic.

Sat outside, not bad. I had one of the pizza’s. It was pretty darn tasty, however, it was very small for the price. Come on guys would it kill ya to make them a bit bigger? I went there because my wife likes a fancy place. There is not much on the menu that I wanted to order; the pizza was a good out but when it came to the table… tiny. Sad face.

Food was middle ground for me although great presentation. Prices are a bit over the top for the portions. The best thing about the produce is its mostly local, ahi was super fresh, and the wine selection is outstanding. Wines in flight looks fun although we didn’t try it.

Had great hopes for this place but was very disappointed. Server was very friendly but not very attentive. Our soup was room temperature, which we were able to finally send back and the second time it was warmer but not hot. And it was lobster bisque, so I know there is going to be some shell but there was ground shell throughout. The flavor was good, though. The server did a nice job describing what’s on the menu. She explained what flatbread was, and said it was a different shape but otherwise a lot like pizza. Ok. It was delivered by another server – great policy, by the way, get it to the table before it gets cold – the server delivering the flatbread said«who has the pizza?» And in fact, it was round. I don’t really care, but don’t go out of your way to tell me it’s rectangular and called flatbread. Inconsistent training issue. The flatbread was delicious, by any name or shape. I had the charcuterie plate. The prosciutto was fantastic. The pickled onions were great. The olives were really good. Otherwise it was uninspired and some of the bread was burned. Not just heavy grill marks, but inedible. Also, there needed to be some fresh element, some small bit of fruit or something. Also no spread of any kind. Aioli maybe? Mustard? Not mandatory but would have been nice. And ideally, I’d like the server to tell me what’s on the plate. The décor is beautiful, the wood tables are stunning. I also loved that there was outdoor seating, although we chose to sit inside.

Diego & the Bar Sloth Nice atmosphere, good food, but the service was crap. First the bartender showed zero interest in serving us. When asked about a particular wine his response was«I don’t know, I’ve sold eight glasses of it tonight» really? Know your product! Later, when I asked to pay my bill he had added it to someone else’s puchase assuming that we were together. While the food delicious, the waiter service was poor. And there seemed to be some confusion as to who was serving us. Our waiter, Diego, failed to separate our bill as requested and asked us to split it up ourselves and let him know. Overall the staff was very uninterested in resolving their mistakes. There’s nothing I like more than getting out my calculator and splitting up the bill for separate parties.

Disappointed at best. Bubbly greeting followed by poor service and poor food. We ordered lobster bisque. First bowl was delivered cool to lukewarm. The second was warmer but the bisque was full of shell pieces that were gritty. The server asked if I needed a second bottle of Diet Coke. I did because NOBODY actually serves overpriced tiny bottles of soda really. Except here. No harm done, the server forgot to bring it. The charcuterie plate was served with burned bread. Not great. The flatbread was good but overall, it was a poor meal, with poor service. I am sad about this because I have tremendous respect for the owners. But this restaurant, at this point, is unremarkable to poor.

This place has AMAZING food! My wife and I got the Flat Iron Steak and it was INSANELY delicious! Pros: Food is as good as it gets. I was going to get the pot pie but decided to get the steak instead. After I saw them walk by with the pot pie, I decided that I will try it next time… it looked amazing! The Deserts were insanely good too! If you decide to order a desert, do not go by the prices on the shelf. Their Oatmeal cake is off the hook good and is worth the $ 5.50 per slice. However, if they serve it at your table they then charge you $ 8.50 for the same slice. They do not have a desert menu on hand, it is memorized by the wait staff but they do not know the prices. Cons: The waitress(Cassy) was very energetic. This part wasn’t the con though… the thing that I was put off by was that she paid more attention to the table behind us and never offered to refill our water, that is not a huge deal though but it was off putting. We will definitely be returning here! Keep up the breath of fresh air that Chico has been needing!

I’ve now tried this place twice, first time a week after they opened. We sat at the bar, they were busy, meaning a full restaurant. There were 4 bartenders on that evening, interesting though it was hard to determine who was taking care of us. The menus were hard to read due to small print(no I don’t use reading glasses, lol) and the lighting under the bar counter. Though cool looking, it made it hard to read with the menu printed on both sides. When approached for drinks we inquired about champagne, surprised by the lack of choices, Korbell, Prosecco, some other I don’t remember. We mentioned we wanted a bottle, never did the bartender share with us another wine list by the bottle. We only noticed it later when the person next to us had one. Why wouldn’t he have mentioned it, odd? We end up with white wine. This is where I’ll share how disappointed we were in the wine list, in my opinion it’s very basic, nothing special, exciting or different about it. That night we ordered the House Salad and a Flatbread. Both were good but lacked little things, salad had very little dressing, not that I like a lot but this happened also on the 2nd visit in February. Both times I order a flatbread, both times black underneath. Loved the beet salad! The Poke Ahi was good but the sesame crackers/flatbread was burnt.(shocked that made it to the table) My husband the 2nd visit had the chicken, he enjoyed this dish, moist & flavorful. The 2nd visit, I sat in the dining room. It was busy, we waited about 30 minutes for a table. I want a Pinot Noir, I tried all 3 by the glass, Personally did not like any of them, Joel Gott, Mark West… again basic restaurant wines that a lot of other places carry. Also wonder why they never mention they have a wine list by the bottle? We didn’t have dessert both times but Cory is making their desserts and she’s an amazing baker. To end I’ll say, I do like this place, it has potential. I’ll try again down the road. Would love to see an upgrade with the wine list, maybe a few wines no one else is carrying., and more attention to detail on food going out to the guest, that it looks perfect in every way. PS Love the other side, Chef ToGo!

This place was terrible for the price you have to pay. Ordered a Margarita Pizza and the crust was completely black. The ½ chicken with potatoes and green beans and no flavor. The servers are dressed way too casual and some of their jeans were wrinkled and torn on the bottom. I would expect my employees to iron their clothes for the prices they are charging. Not«upsale» attire by any means.

Good service, nice atmosphere. The house salad was a bit skimpy for the price and while quite fresh, rather unexceptional. Hubby got the special(jambalaya) which he quite liked, but again felt it was a little overpriced for the portion. The fourth star comes in for my pizza which was delicious with perfectly portioned toppings. I chose the mushroom pizza because they were out of mac and cheese and I’m glad it worked out that way. They offer wine flights, which was a really fun way to wine taste with dinner.

Tonight was our first time eating here and we really enjoyed it. We had about a 15 to 20 minute wait as we were waiting for a 2-seater table but then decided we would like to sit at one of their communal tables which reminds me of one of our favorite restaurants in San Francisco, Suppenkuch. It’s a crazy busy German restaurant and you sit where they can fit you, sharing a table with strangers. We like that environment but not everybody does. If that’s not for you, then you may have to wait for your own table. My husband ordered the pot pie and I had the half chicken and they were so good… we loved them both. The chicken was so tender and flavorful. I love that their food is farm to table using local ingredients, natural and healthy food. One of the owners stopped by our table not once but twice checking on us and talking about the food. We really appreciated that. We also had the vegetable rolls and they are amazing! I loved the ginger dressing so much I bought some to take home. I had the pinot flight and really liked the first one, I think it’s called Hangtime. Again, we really enjoyed everything about this new restaurant and can’t wait to go back, not just for dinner but to take advantage of the prepared meals in their deli next door.

I’m sure when the staff settles in to a true knowledge of the intricacies of their menus, both food and wine, that I will be able to rate this wonderful new Chico wine bar and restaurant at 5 stars. But, before we sat down at our table in the restaurant, we toured the Chef to Go portion of the establishment. Wow! Great salads, stocks, sandwiches, side dishes, as well as a unique salad bar adorn this delightful deli. But it was the restaurant that we enjoyed most. A variety of cheese plates, flights of 3 wine varietals for $ 9 — $ 12(I had the Zinfandel flight. Others at the table had Chardonnay, fruity whites, and New World reds, respectively). But the lamb shank and beet carpaccio were nothing short of amazing. And if you get a chance to try any of their bread puddings, you must. We had a chocolate bread pudding amongst the table, and it was texturally perfect! Crisp edges, soft«innards» flavorfully soaked in luscious chocolate. All of us left happy. Great food, excellent wine, pleasant service, and wonderful atmosphere. Hopefully the staff’s knowledge of their offerings will improve with age, like the good wines they serve.

I went for dinner with my parents who aren’t normally impressed with this style of eatery. However, they were stoked to find out Corey makes a lot of their desserts.(Oatmeal cake was amazing!) I ordered the half chicken. It was way chewy and had a strange flavor. The green beans and potatoes they served with it were very tasty and done the way I like my vegetables, slightly crunchy. My father ordered one of the flat bread pizzas & brussel sprouts. Both were fantastic. I don’t even like brussel sprouts and I couldn’t stop eating them. My Mom got the chicken pot pie/cobbler thing. It was a good portion. It did need seasoning or salt or something. The flavor could have been a little better. All in all it was good. I am excited to try the flights & cheese plates when I get a chance to go with my sister. Also happy to try the other grab-and-go/salad bar side for lunch sometime. Everything over there looked pretty good too.

Ok, here’s my review. This is the second time I’ve been in. The first time, I just grabbed a menu to peruse and checked out the take out portion of the place. It seemed a bit not totally together. Sloppily hand written tags in the cold case, stuff that seemed a bit out of place for a grab and go(like flavored butters, but no bread), and the salad bar wasn’t up an running. I was excited to see that the salad bar was up and it did look delicious. The deli side still looks not quite done yet. Maybe it’s the vast open spaces, or funky not the right height tables and stools… something is still off here. And maybe I’m picky, but I can’t stand the cash register area that is on a metal table with what looks like a bunch of crap on the bottom shelf. Someone slap a skirt on that, quick! We had a 35 – 40 min wait and were lucky to snag two seats at the bar. I liked the fact that there are affordable flights of 3 wines for $ 10 – 11. Once seated, my friend and I ended up ordering the brussel sprouts, the spicy quinoa salad, and a flatbread. The food was good, but after the raves I heard(and the newspaper article comparing it to feeling like you are in Seattle(!?!)) I expected more. The food was delicious, but I just wanted something that I haven’t had before… something that would make me want to come back because I had to have it again(you know, like the cauliflower app at Grana). I just didn’t get that spark. Now here’s where I have my issues. We were brought food that wasn’t ours five times. FIVE! I just wanted to tell the servers to get their shit together and figure out a way to determine who needed to get the food that obviously wasn’t ours. Another thing I was very disappointed about was the bathroom. If you are going to bill yourself as a more upscale locale, your toilet paper shouldn’t be sheer. You should have Charmin up in that place, or at least something 2-ply. Also, the gluten-free options should be expanded upon… there are many of us that are living the gluten-free life. All in all a good place. It may be more for the wine than for the food for me.

It doesn’t resemble an old blockbuster at all! It’s a wine bar that also has take-out deli options. When we first arrived we were told it was a 40 minute wait(maybe the could add some more seating to the deli portion on the building?), but there was seating at the bar. We ordered a flight of the sauv blanc which were all good but when our table was ready they couldn’t transfer our tab which is a little inconvenient. The menu is small but still looked great, I ordered the butternut squash Mac-n-cheese and my husband got the lamb shank. Both were delicious! Our service was extremely fast and I was really impressed since they are a new restaurant and it was a Saturday night. The place was packed and I suspect they’ll do very well here! Yum!

Very nice! Very happy with our first experience. Fun selection of wine fights and options. Limited menu however everything was excellent. Great service. Turkey sliders were nice. Flat bread(pizza) was quality Fortunately only 1 tv and it was at the bar and so didn’t detract from the nice ambiance and feel of the place. We were told that all desserts are made by Cory(from former Cory’s on 3rd st which made the best desserts anywhere) and today’s apple pie was amazing. I’m thrilled to see Cory involved and it only added to our overall great experience. I had 5 sampler wines and the Meiomi pinot noir wine from the central coast was especially good. Thrilled to have this new place in Chico.
