This is our go-​to Mexican food place. I love their veggie specials — carrots, zucchini, and potato — so delicious.

Al pastor is amazing and so is the habanero sauce! I am an SF native and this burrito is better than anything you can get on Mission St.

Best Mexican food in Chico. Every time I’ve gone in, it’s been the same woman working– she’s friendly and helpful. The food is always DELICIOUS and decently priced. No complaints whatsoever. Highly recommend!

On a venture up to Butte County, I was craving some good authentic Mexican food that will not disappoint. And driving through the downtown part of Chico, I stumbled across a place that stood out with its bright yellow-​colored exterior building that just screamed attention. Which takes me none other to «Amigos De Acapulco».
Conveniently located on the corner of Oroville Ave. and Broadway St., this place is in the heart of downtown Chico. There is a small parking lot that can fill about 10 vehicles but will fill up quickly during the dinner rush as well as the lunchtime hours when hungry Chico State students want their Mexican fix. Inside, the restaurant is fairly spacious as orange and yellow walls are the focal point while giving it that authentic Mexican feel to it.
I had come here with my fiancée on a Sunday afternoon around 2:30pm. There wasn’t many customers inside since it was in between lunch and dinner time. Since we had ate breakfast a few hours prior to coming here, we aren’t hungry enough to go with a full-​on lunch entrée. Therefore, we both decided to try their tacos out. We had both ordered three of their «Carne Asada Tacos». And priced at a reasonable $ 2.00/each, this was a very good deal for a sit down restaurant.
Our tacos arrive in less than five minutes and are presented very nicely. They come fully loaded with two corn tortillas, sliced onions, cilantro, red salsa, and lime wedges on the side. And when we enjoyed was the abundance of carne asada meat that was packed inside. The overall flavor was spot-​on while I tasted many hints of spices that included cumin, salt, and pepper. And the salsa added a perfect spice without being too overbearingly hot to my taste buds.
My lady also ordered a «Horchata» which is a type of Mexican rice drink. I could definitely tell that this was made from scratch and had the perfect amount of creaminess while the cinnamon spice added some nice flavor to it. Now if tacos just isn’t your thing, «Amigos De Acapulco» offers a huge variety of menu options including nachos, taquitos, tortas, tamales, quesadillas, and burritos. Not to mention sopes, soups, salads, and ceviche. And finally they also have vegetarian options as well as seafood dishes and a small beer selection.
Overall, I highly recommend «Amigos De Acapulco» if you’re a Butte County local or just happen to be passing through town en route up north to Redding or down south to Sacramento. The service is decent, prices are very reasonable, and the quality of food is above average for what I found to be excellent tasting Mexican food.

My favorite Mexican spot in Chico these days. It took the #1 spot from La Cocina Economica/​Sol in my opinion. Check ‘em out!

This place is hands down some of the BEST Mexican food I have ever had! The green sauce is literally to die for! Didn’t love having to pay for the chips and salsa (1.50) but the chips really were worth it. Fresh and obviously house made. If your trying to decide between this spot and the 2 other Mexican places close by with good reviews pick this one! You will not be disappointed!

We found this place very mediocre. Chips and salsa were both uninspired. Sauce clearly based on canned tomatoes and under flavored. Plus you have to pay for them. Sope was average and short on meat, long on lettuce. Very little sauce. Husband’s taco salad was better – largely because of excellent carnitas. Problem is he asked for chicken.
We don’t understand the high reviews, but reviews have proven unreliable in Chico. Maybe because they are skewed by college students looking for quick and cheap.

Amigos De Acapulco catered our wedding on 8÷8÷2015. Words cannot describe how truly wonderful the food and service was.

Our guests raved about the food! Everything was so fresh and flavorful. The team set up a buffet table but they also had their taco truck in our backyard to add to the fun of it. The service was so quick and efficient, you could easily tell that the staff is a group of professionals.
The food was seriously so good. Our guests talked about it for the rest of the weekend. I knew the food would be amazing because we always eat at Amigos when we come to Chico.
Finally, beyond the taste of the food, Francisco and his team took all of our plates and cutlery and returned them to the rental company for us. Talk about professionalism and helping out.

Decided to do a pit stop here while on the way home, hoping that it would be a hole in a wall Mexican restaurant. However it was not and was quite basic. Ordered a carne asada taco, supreme el pastor burrito, and horchata. Nothing stood out about those items. Food did not come with any chips, lime, radishes and has no salsa bar. I’ve experienced better Mexican restaurants.

I moved here from San Diego two years ago, and I’ve been searching all of Chico for bomb carnitas. I was convinced that they didn’t exist here, or that I was too much of a Mex food snob to notice. But let me tell you: The carnitas here are the best in town. Period. Legit fried pork goodness just like home. And the habanero hot sauce adds a nice touch.
The only drawback at this place is that it’s kinda spendy, especially when you consider that they fatten their burritos with beans and rice (even their breakfast burritos – ew), leaving a little to be desired when it comes to the main event – the carnitas. I’ve had them hold the beans and rice before, but they don’t compensate with the other ingredients – so what you end up with is a limp, skinny burrito that costs nearly $ 7. Sadly, I’m a glutton for solid carnitas, so I will definitely continue to go back – but mostly to try other carnitas options on the menu.

Food was delicious! Had a veggie especial taco that was unlike any I’ve had before and was so good! Also had a deep fried fish taco, which was the best I’ve ever had! And their chips and salsa had great salsa!

Went here last night with the family. Great food, fast, friendly service and good prices. We used to come here years ago and hadn’t been back for one reason or another. We all really enjoyed our meal and will definitely be back. My in-​laws really seemed to like their food and said they would be returning soon, also.

Needed some pre-​show tacos. They were very good. The carnitas was legit.
The spicy salsa (habanero) is hot as fck. Took some time to get our order, but it was worth it.

Good, simple classic Mexican food. Nothing fancy or particularly special, but that’s not needed and I’ll keep coming back for sure. My second time here, today I had the carnitas and pollo asado tacos a la carte and they were on point. Looking forward to trying more of their menu. Staff was very friendly and service was good.

Amazing food! Just had the shrimp taco plate and my buddy 5 tacos. Everything was VERY delicious. I ate every last bite and want to eat till I burst. Do your stomach a favor and eat here. You’ll thank me.

Igual, es auténtico pero no la comida no tiene demasiado aceite como la mayoría de restaurantes parecidas. Este me gustó, que no me sentía gordo saliendo.
