Portions were pretty big, food was as expected. They’re not a gourmet shop but I expected tasty, cheap Chinese food and that’s what I got!

I would give it a 0 star if I could. This place has the worse customer service ever. I went to this restaurant during my lunch break and I was so happy when I got there because the was literally nobody there just me. So I thought«perfect food won’t take long and it will be a pleasant experience.» I was wrong I sat and they gavebme a menu and the guy and lady that were there sat at a table and were chit chatting it up and I had to let them know when I was ready to order because let me tell you they did not care to check if I was ready. My food took a while and nobody checked if I needed a re-fill I had to let them know I needed more soda. When I was ready to leave I kept making eye contact with the lady by the cashier«my waiter» and she look at me and looked away. So in order to get it I had to get up from the table and get all my stuff ready and walked up to her to tell her I wanted the check and she gave me the check and gave me attitude after I was the one that had to get up and ask for it. Will never return and will never recommend it to anybody!

This is my go to Chinese place for lunch. Super fast, reasonably priced, and the good has been about what I’m looking for when I crave it. Is it super amazing? Nah. Could the service be a bit better? Sure. But I’ve always been happy enough to go here and haven’t found a similar sized Chinese place that tastes as good. Their lunch specials are often a good deal and they will sometimes make something vegetarian if you ask(like the fried rice and egg fu young). Overall, I wish Yu Choy was near where I lived and not just where I worked. Chinese food might be prevalent in the city, but a lot of it isn’t good, let alone average. These guys do a decent job and I’ll be going back often for lunch.

I got delivery, so I have no idea what the restaurant looks like. It’s nice to have an option in the River North/Downtown area that isn’t Panda Express or a pricey upscale Chinese restaurant. I got delivery by calling the restaurant directly, and it arrived fresh and hot at the time promised. I got egg rolls, hot and sour soup, shrimp egg foo yung and shrimp fried rice. The egg rolls were meh. The hot and sour soup was a good, basic old school Chinese take away hot and sour soup, which is just what I wanted. The egg foo yung patties were plump and loaded with veggies and shrimp with a smooth gravy, the best egg foo yung I had in a long time. The fried rice was nicely cooked. Prices seemed fairly reasonable for the area. I would order from them again and maybe try something else on the menu, I would also get the egg foo yung and the hot and sour soup again for sure.

I had high hopes for Yu Choy because it was the only Chinese take out place near me, but it was a colossal disappointment. First of all, it’s expensive for food that should be cheap(I paid $ 30 for two dishes). Next, it just didn’t taste very good. I was immediately suspicious when I didn’t see any Asian workers inside the restaurant. I hate leaving negative Unilocal reviews but this experience was just too bad to overlook.

Terrible. The sesame chicken and beef with broccoli tasted exactly the same! Very bland!

Been here a few times, hoping it would change. Still has not. Go in and I get ignored. People are in front of me at the counter and never help or ask anything. I would not recommend this place.

Ordered through Groupon! Should have checked these reviews. The worst Asian food I have ever eaten and will not purchase again. Pot stickers — all dough threw them away! Sweet sour soup revolting — poor taste. Chicken ginger — oily! Bad experience. Had to throw everything away — even the rice was old…

My company ordered food from them today and everyone who ate from there had a stomachache and threw up. Their food has a very strong flavor, possibly to mask the lack of freshness of the food. Buyer beware. You’ve been warned!

After a long day at work, I want to be able to pick up a quick meal and head home. If you are looking for a hassle free experience, do not step food in this establishment. I went in and ordered a vegetable fried rice. When she said the total out loud it sounded like she said $ 17 instead of the $ 7 that I was expecting. I corrected her and she nodded in agreement. The noise of the exposed kitchen and music was probably making us both hear different things. When I went to sign for my order, I told her that the total was wrong. She then told me that was the price for two orders of fried rice. I told her that I only ordered one. She quickly became defensive and said, «we both heard you say two.» She pointed to a man who was standing next to her and had nothing to do with the order that I placed with HER. I’m in customer service too and no matter what you think you might’ve heard, you correct the mistake without argument. If that is how all customers are treated, it is no wonder that they didn’t have a single person dining in.

Ordered delivery through GrubHub. Rating is primarily for the food quality, but delivery taking about 20 minutes longer than quoted didn’t help. Pot stickers were very large, but also very doughy. Pork filling was bland. Sauce was saltier than most. Mongolian beef was average at best. Unmemorable. Will not be reordering. Too many other great options.

Needed to grab dinner after a long day. Wanted to eat a great place downtown but it had a two hour wait and we were hungry. Several other places we stopped by had long waits so decided to head out a bit to another area but before getting to the car we saw this place and it looked a little inviting as its on the corner. The food was below average. The service was fine but either the cook or owner/chef appeared to be listening to out conversation. Rating is based on food primarily. The wonton soup was average/OK but the Hunan beef was below average and the Empress Tofu was bad. The Mongolian beef was ordered 6 out of 10 hot and had almost no heat and the Tofu dish was ordered 10 out of 10 hot and was slightly hotter but really quite mild. The two dishes were generally low flavor to almost no flavor. Not expensive but considering the plain interior and quality of food $ 12 is high. There are better choices.

Perfect quick and cheap lunch spot in the loop! Stumbled upon this place and was really happy that I did. The service was insanely fast – food was ordered and served within 10 minutes, making it a good lunch stop for those busy loop professionals. The egg drop soup was fresh and tasty. And the Orange chicken was made with fresh white meat chicken… yum. The staff was also really pleasant and appreciative of our complements. Will be coming back soon for more!

Skip this place. Ordered sesame and got sesame soup with 10x more vegetables then chicken. Not at all what I ordered. It’s my favorite dish. I have had it a 1000 times at a hundred different places. I asked for my credit card back after he swiped it. He said and I quote, «we hold it hostage». Like that’s an option. I won’t be back here.

Yu Choy offers tasty, simple Chinese fare at attractive prices. I’m glad that it’s in the neighborhood, having moved here just a week ago. I stopped in the first time to dine-in after hauling boxes all day and went with one of their specials(soup + egg roll + entrée for about 10 bucks). I thought this was a great value and it definitely filled me up. My only warning would be that their egg rolls are *very* deep fried. Deep frying is probably a plus to many, but I prefer a slightly less decadent egg roll. I’ve also picked up soup for take-out, which is a comically good deal. For about 4 bucks, you get a gigantic container of soup which can be a dinner in and into itself, especially if you are going for the hearty Won Ton soup(I think I ended up with 9 or 10 won tons for 4 bucks). I of course acknowledge that there are plenty of fancy Asian places offering more eclectic offerings in the downtown area, at higher prices. But Yu Choy offers reliable, friendly, and consistent Chinese food, which is something that can easily be missing in a downtown neighborhood. Given the low prices, I think it’s worth dropping in for a meal or grabbing takeout and judging for yourself.

I really like this place! You have to know what you’re getting going in. This isn’t a linen tablecloth dim lighting mood place. This is your gimme some food that will fill my face kind of place. Paper napkins and hot mustard packets in a basket on the table. It’s awesome when you want no frills dining. A couple of tips: Soups are BIG… almost a meal into themselves. Too much for one person to eat and have room for anything else, so take a friend or get some to go. Egg rolls are classic deep fried and not microwaved. If you ask for spicy you’ll get it! My as-requested spicy fried rice was wonderfully hot! Also the hot mustard at the table in the packets is pretty potent as well — just like I like it! All in all a good cheap chinese place.

Descriptive phrase: BYOB cheap Chinese. I’d never been to a BYOB place before, so I was excited to bring a few bottles of wine into this little Chinese joint. The ten of us filled up just about every seat in the place, which is kinda dingy looking and old but not dirty. They only had 4 wine glasses, but it tasted just as good out of a red plastic cup. The servers were extremely nice and seemed happy to accomodate our rambunctious group. I ordered a daily special of General Tso’s Beef($ 10) but they gave me chicken. No matter. The dish itself was your standard fare, with rice and veggies in a tangy and horrible-for-you sauce. What set Yu Choy apart from other places I’ve been were what came with the meal. Included in the price was a cup of soup and a vegetable roll. I ordered the Egg Drop soup, and it was hands down the best I’ve ever had. It was the perfect balance between salty broth and egg; I find most places overdo the egg and it comes out milky. Not the case here. The vegetable roll was crispy and tasty as well. Not a bad place to hang out with friends, eat on the cheap, and get ready for the night.
