What a shame. This place is really changed – I had no idea they ownership had changed until this weekend when I ordered delivery and — WHOA. It’s NOTHING like it used to be, and the deliciousness I remember. First of all the portions are literally half the size – the take-out containers seem very small now. And the food(everything I ordered) is VERY salty and lacking in other flavors. I drank about a gallon of water after eating dinner. The flavor is not delicate, specific and fresh like it used to be – the dishes seem pre-made and the sauces jarred. Even the sesame noodles seemed canned. I feel like I could make better chinese in my wok, and I think from now on I will. What a disappointment.

Not the best and not the worst. Friend and I decided to dine in here since she loved getting take out here and we got to BYOB. Ordered egg roll, orange chicken, and walnut shrimp. I had brought a mason jar of my home infused pineapple vodka and I saw the waiters inquisitively watching, onto the food. Egg rolls — Flavourful, nice texture without being mouth cutting crispy, I liked that it wasn’t greasy at all. Served with sweet sauce and hot mustard. Orange Chicken — Huge chunks of chicken, it was more sweet to me but I would have liked some savory in there. When it first arrived, waiter told us it was sesame chicken and we told him we had ordered orange chicken, after long inspection he said it was orange as he saw the dried orange peel in there Walnut shrimp — the sauce was very runny and I feared the shrimp would be soggy but it remained a nice light crisp, tons of walnuts! Rice was a little soft for me, but fortune cookies were fresh! I don’t think I would go out of my way to come back though.

Yen’s is by far my favorite Chinese anywhere outside of Chinatown! I’d wait two hours for this food rather than settle for anything lesser. Highly recommend for any occasion, eat in, or carry out…

Love Yen’s! My friend invited me having dinner at Yen’s restaurant last Saturday night. I love this place! The food is so good, so delicious, that made us so stuffed! Basil chicken and Garlic beef are highly recommended. I will be back again for sure!

Was pleasantly surprised at our order. The sesame chicken was really unusual, with a heavy peanut butter taste and just enough spice. Delicious. Looked nothing like another reviewer’s photo who said it was dry and stringy. The potstickers were very good too with that slight burnt color/texture. Only thing I wasn’t thrilled with was the garlic beef, which is VERY different than prior version when restaurant had different owners. However, leftovers next day are much better COLD for some reason. Great date spot and service was decent too.

Yum, yum, yum! I’ve gotten delivery from here a few times and it’s always been hot, quick, and tasty. I got carry out around dinner time recently and realized the interior was so cute! There wasn’t a single person eating in at the time, but I’m not sure if it’s always that slow. It would be an adorable date place. Next time I get Yen’s, I will most likely dine in because finding a restaurant that yummy, that isn’t crowded, is rare!

If you are looking for some authentic Chinese food this is the place to be! My wife and I took our two children there for dinner last night and we were impressed! Recommended by a friend that lives in the area, we traveled from Indiana to give it a try. No need to dine at any other Chinese restaurant in China Town.

Their house made pot stickers is a must. My kids loved them. I personally recommend Garlic Shrimp, decent size, good value to what you pay, and of course, it is SO delicious. Nice service, friendly waitress. We like the cozy place, my kids and I had a great dinner on a Friday night.

My parents ordered from this place two hours ago. They arrived home and we all started eating. All of the sudden, my mom bit down on something and went to the bathroom to see what was wrong. To all of our surprise and disgust, she found a HUMANTOOTH!!! INTHEBROCCOLIANDBEEF! I don’t know how or why it got there, but we are definitely never going back there ever again!

As many have reported, new owners/chef/prices have ruined this place.

I was so disappointed. The sesame chicken had very little meat, mostly crunchy breading. The meat that was there was very dry and stringy. The sauce was very thick and the rice tasted a little old and slightly crunchy. I had to throw it all away. I gave 2 stars because the interior looked nice.

I went there twice, enjoyed all of its dishes. There are fewer and fewer good traditional Chinese restaurant in the city. This is an excellent one. Both garlic shrimp and vegetable shrimp we had were so good, and the pot stickers that are large and tasty could be meal by itself. It is near by a paking lot, very convenient. We will go back there again.

Goodbye Yen’s. I lived up the block for years in my 20s and absolutely loved this place. Everything was amazing. My go-to, even though it’s a Chinese restaurant, was the pad thai along with crab wontons and potstickers. The noodles were awesome: piping hot, loaded with flavor, huge chunks of tofu and chicken. The sweet and sour sauce was even homemade. you get the idea. To my horror, after moving to Wicker Park and swinging through after a long time, I saw on Unilocal it changed owners and wasn’t the same. I had to see for myself. I ordered my go-to. The portion was cut in half. The price? Higher. The noodles were flavorless, lukewarm, and just sad looking. The wontons and the potstickers tasted like they were prepared the previous Wednesday by a guy who hated working there. Its confirmed. Yen’s has gone from neighborhood darling to taking a dive into the growing pool of painfully average Chinese take-out joints. If the former owner is reading this. I miss you.

This is my third time to order food from Yen’s. The food is delicious reminding me of my hometown – Sichuan. I like the sweet and sour chicken! I also like the furniture and decoration there.

Didn’t know the old Yen’s, but my meal was pretty good. Appetizers and spicy garlic beef were solid. Only weird thing is that we were the only ones in the dining room.

There are new owners and, wow, have the prices gone up! I haven’t gone back and, based on the reviews of the quality of food and customer service written since the owner change, it wouldn’t be worth it to go here. I might have given them a shot if the prices hadn’t been increased so much but they have gone up a lot. Too bad. Loved Yen’s before.

Just ordered delivery and had a very bad experience with this place. First off they said it would be 20 minutes to get my food and it took more than an hour to get here. Then I noticed that my food wasn’t what I had wanted so I looked at the receipt to see that I was charged for something I had not ordered. I called them to see if they could fix this and they didn’t want to do anything to help. They wanted me to order the right dish and pay for it again. The person I had talked to had no interest at all in trying to fix the issue. Didn’t eat the dish that was delivered to me that was wrong but I did have the egg rolls that I ordered and they were awful. Tasted like nothing but fried dough. Their shrimp fried rice is average, and DONOT get their pot stickers — they are God awful. But worse of all is a business that has no interest in satisfying an unsatisfied customer. Instead their only concern was losing a sale. Well, they’ve lost my business forever and to boot I am disputing the incorrect item with my credit card company so they are out there also. My suggestion — go to Young’s Chinese.

I used to love the food at Yen’s. There was recently a period of time when they didn’t answer the phone and I wondered what happened. I ordered last night and a cheerful voice answered the phone so I knew something had changed… lol! Unfortunately, the food had changed also. I ordered pan-fried pot stickers… a favorite of mine… and they were inedible. They were all crust and deep fried. I ate half of one and threw the rest out. Egg-rolls changed also… I don’t think they were made in house. The rest of the food was not good and greasy. What a shame. The old Yen’s will be missed by me. If there are new owners, they missed an opportunity to be successful based on the old following who expected great food. Don’t waste your money.

About 3 weeks ago during a period of much snow and chilly temperatures I ventured outdoors to see what was open in order to eat. As I was on my way to first choice I noticed that Yen’s had reopened. Sadly my first choice was closed due to the weather, so I happily headed to Yen’s. Unfortunately my happiness was to be short lived. After my arrival I began to peruse the menu and noticed that the extensive menu that was once Yen’s hallmark was much smaller and that the prices had been raised significantly on all the menu items. However, this did not deter me. I did not see my favorite appetizer, the Steamed Dumplings on the menu. I politely asked my server if they would steam the Potstickers for me. She said no, because the Potstickers are deep fried. I countered that Potstickers are dumplings and asked again and she said no. Under the previous ownership the same dumpling was used for both the Steamed Dumplings and the Potstickers. The server never went to ask the kitchen if they would honor my request, so I left. Potstickers are technically steamed on one side and then pan fried on the other until they stick to pan. Hence the name«Potsticker.» I am heartbroken that the previous owner sold her business and that the new owners seem to be clueless on customer service. I will never return here again. Caveat emptor!

I believe that Yen’s has changed ownership. The old Yen’s was delicious, friendly, efficient, and all around amazing. This new«Yen’s» imposter is just awful as is evidenced by the reviews on the other Yen’s Unilocal page. This is the new page for their«new» business. My husband and I, who had been ordering for 6 years, recently called to place an order. It went all wrong. We couldn’t even place our order because they were out of ingredients for literally everything we wanted. We were not ordering anything wild either! The woman on the phone also put me on hold a bunch of times as she failed to fulfill our order. Additionally, she could barely hear or understand me. We gave up in frustration and ended up not getting anything. It is so sad to see such a wonderful establishment take such an extreme nose dive. They won’t survive like this.
