I used to come here every day over the summer. The service was great, the drinks were on point, and the pastries??? Oh god they were divine. I visited today after a long hiatus around noon. There was one person in front of me, so there were only two customers including myself. It took almost 10 minutes just to be able to place my order. Then another 10 minutes until i got my drink. The silly thing is, the customer before me was making a return, so the only thing they had to make was my drink. When i tried the drink, it had none of the chocolatey taste that dark matter coffees usually have. It tasted like foamy water. I didn’t want to bother with a return, seeing how it took them forever to help the previous one with the return. I had a meeting to go to, so i didn’t have the time to wait another whatever time for a new one. Maybe it was just a bad day??? But i’m kinda sad):

They don’t have a big selection of baked goods, some gluten free cupcakes, cookies, etc. The most unique ones were the cake balls, different flavors such as French toast, red velvet, Mexican chocolate, etc. I liked my Mexican chocolate one which had coconut flavor to it, went back second time and got a red velvet, was pretty good too. Also tried their brownies and cheesecake brownies, these were good but nothing to rave about. Interesting little place for a nice treat.

I liked the hole in the wall atmosphere. Came in because I love cake balls! But I wasn’t too impressed with these. I bought a dozen for $ 18 which seemed a little pricey to me. Well out of the 7 or so flavors that we tried… they all tasted about the same. I was expecting huge flavor, ie. super lemony, or super French toast-like, but they were almost indistinguishable. I also expected them to be a bit more soft. They were not exactly hard, but they were kinda like biting into dry balls of frosting. They look yummy though.

If you have not tried the french toast cake balls, you are missing out. Probably one of the best desserts I have ever had in any city.(They have other flavors too but I am very partial to the french toast ones.)

Absolute best donut holes I have ever had. Their breakfast sandwiches are really good as well, but they could use a few more selections. Really good locally sourced coffee.

It’s cute, it’s quirky, it’s delicious. My wife got a cupcake and I got a French toast cake ball. OMGZZZ. The cake ball was, as my wife describes it, like the«burnt ends» of a French toast cinnamon roll. It’s all the good stuff that gathers and caramelizes at the ends and then is rolled into a ball with some fresh cake. And it was at least three bites. People watching is also fun here as it is connected to a crazy hotel or something.

I was very upset as me and my boyfriend come here on a Friday night it still says open for 41 minutes and the guys counting the money and saying we are closed! You have hours for a reason so please keep up with them.

This place is attached to the Acme hotel where I was staying so I got a bunch of vouchers for breakfast. Their menu is tiny, includes sandwiches both breakfast and lunch, with literally every option including meat. And they’re all $ 8 or more so this certainly isn’t cheap. I wish there was just a «make your own option» or something. I was annoyed when I had to order every sandwich sans meat which was basically a bagel with cream cheese and arugula for $ 8 and $ 9 with tax. Annoying. Admittedly, it was still good, and I’m sure good with the meat too, but just annoying. I tried the doughssant or whatever aka a cronut and I was unimpressed. They also didn’t warm it up which would have made it better. $ 4 for that. The coffee is just not good. The service is really slow and not super friendly.

Organic by design, kitschy and a little odd, this place seems like it would crank out original and tasty fare, and it does. The doughnuts are thick and tasty with some originality. Their cousins, the cakeballs, offer the same yumminess with a variety of flavors — my fave is the Mexican Spice. While the variety of sandwiches isn’t great, each of the ones we tasted were well-made and delicious. The coffee is the lifeblood of this place. With enough options to satisfy everybody, each well roasted pressed, it is a great jumpstart to the day.

Be careful or you’ll miss West Town Bakery and Diner. This place is tucked in a «hole in the wall». There are few tables but there is a place to sit and enjoy. The décor inside is very welcoming as well. I stopped in around 3pm to cure my sweet tooth and they were not very busy. So pleased they had multiple gluten-free options(cupcakes, brownies and cookies)! Very satisfied with the taste of the chocolate cake w/vanilla icing GF cupcake I ordered. A good texture and great taste! The price was very reasonable too. Topped it off with a cup of orange juice. Would definitely stop back in!

This is a marvelous little place easily overlooked. As everyone else has already noted, their doughssant is nothing short of absolutely incredible. Now, as you know, they cannot call it a «cronut» because of silly trademark laws since we live in a country where you can make up a word or idea and suddenly it’s only yours forever. Damn stupid. Their«doughssant» ranks up there with one of the very finest of all breakfast pastries ever made in all the history of Christendom, and murderous Islam-dom. For five bucks, you get a very large externally fried dough that’s crispy and flakey on the outiside, and fresh and buttery air on the inside… 6 inches of sheer deliciousness. There’s no shortage of filling either… lots of marvelously thick home made cream and equal amounts of tasty raspberry jam. Eat it slow, you’ll want the memory to linger in your head for the rest of the day. This isn’t a two-bite deal. It would be rude to share it, so everyone should purchase their own. It really is THAT good and I haven’t had another like it. They also serve excellent coffee. If you order anything else, be careful it’s not from the«Vegan» section.

My previous review of the other location had been«ditch the diner, keep the bakery» and that seems to be what they did here. The cake balls were phenomenal(moist cake, very sweet, pretty cheap), and the birthday cake doughssant was again a winner. They have a bunch of nerd-themed references throughout, and a nice gluten-free bakery section for those needing it. They’re also open pretty late, making it a pretty good option for a late-night carb run.

This place has been on my bucket list for a while(yes, I have a bucket list, and yes, there are good places on it)! One morning, I had to be at work super early and was extremely hungover, so I needed a pick me up — I work very close by. I had a Popular Pays for a free doughssant– a croissant/doughnut hybrid. BUT their doughssants are special because they are long johns and filled with cream. Have I caught your attention yet? When I got inside, the people working there immediately greeted me with a smile and a warm welcome. I was eyeing the s’mores doughssant and the cake batter doughssant. The cashier told me that the s’mores was better. So glad that I got it! Holy. Crap. There’s a sugary coating to the croissant exterior, drizzle of chocolate, and a filling of s’mores cream. Warning: it’s extremely sweet. And don’t lie to yourself– you WILL eat the whole thing. Because it is INCREDIBLE. Although I got this one for free, I noticed that it was $ 4.50. So these things aren’t cheap. But PLEASE, go treat yourself to one of these babies! RIGHTNOW.

Kind of a hole in the wall kind of place. Walked right past it! The atmosphere is interesting. loud rap music playing and grungy graphics. I ordered the gluten free smores brownie. It was just okay. I also got chocolate toffee and that was pretty good, it tasted home-made. I would probably try a different bakery with gluten free items next time because it didn’t meet my expectations.

I am not a fan of the ACE hotels. Had I known this place was attached, I might not have gone. But, I was looking for pastries convenient to my hotel and am actually very glad I found this place. Nice pastries. I bought about a dozen for a meeting I was having, and people demolished them, complimenting the ginger scones particularly. The staff was super nice about the pastries. He individually wrapped each pastry before placing them in the box and(it’s the little things), when he put the large box into the bag, he knew to tip the bag(instead of the box) so that pastries wouldn’t spill all over themselves.(Not everyone thinks about this.) That said, there isn’t much quantity in the cases, so my purchase kind of wiped them out for the day. There are a lot of options, but only maybe 4 or 5 of each item. And, by the time I got there(maybe 8:00 am), there were often only 2 things of each.

Everything was great here — bagels were fresh — I ordered the lox bagel and the lox was really fresh and it had the perfect amount of cream cheese on it. My boyfriend had the bacon and eggs which came on a croissant and looked amazing. We also took advantage of the daily deal — half off a dozen cake balls. I read in a previous review that the chocolate cake balls were a MUST. I completely agree — french toast one was also a life changer. Do yourself a favor and just get the dozen pack!

Attached to the ACME hotel, I swung-in for a light breakfast because my room at ACME included a $ 10 voucher for this place. + Cozy little space + Delicious pastries + Decent coffee + Super reasonable prices — Super slow/pokey service — Very limited protein options; most pastries are cheese/sugar/cheese/starch

COMFYANDCOZYSURROUNDINGS This looked like one of those places I would regularly haunt if it was closer. The pastries were just oozing temptation as they posed behind the glass counter and the scattered tables just begged for conversation or some study time with a laptop and coffee at my side. BUTTHATONESERVICEGUY… I smiled and tried to make small talk with the lone, young guy behind the counter. He didn’t reciprocate any of it. Every chat was met with a grunt. When I asked if those were Nuts on top of a Doughnut he responded smugly, «Whaddaya think they are?» Whoa. I guess none of the cozy and comfy surroundings were getting to this guy. GREATPASTRIES At least the pastries were good. Not top-notch because they still had that slight ‘left out’ texture and flavor but still way above chain stores. My Apple Cinnamon Doughssant(like a long Cronut I guess) was very flaky and thick. The Beer and Pretzel Doughnut seemed to be one of their most unusual offerings(and looked the coolest) but it seemed more Caramel than Beer in flavor. I’m a bigger fan of their Scones – excellent with Tea or Coffee.

the place was nice, the doughssant was cold and gross… I was forcing my self to eat it because I really wanted to like this place but it was just not good. Maybe I’ll come by to try the croissants, bread, or muffins though.

I’ve only tried one item here and been here only once but based on that one item alone I would go back for more. I had the chocolate cake ball. It was very rich and oh, so chocolaty. Basically chocolate cake encrusted in a chocolate shell with chocolate sprinkles. When I return I think that I would try some of the more unusual flavors.
