I went here for the first time this past weekend for the opening reception of Hebru Brantley«Memoirs of Minimum Wage Exhibit» I’m a huge fan of the artist, so we were excited to come check out his work. I usually don’t like to knock any art gallery or studio, but this one was very small and only 1 room. Luckily we got there right around opening, but if you got there any later I’m not sure how everyone can fit. I love that they are featuring Urban art though, so I will be back if there’s another exhibit that peaks my interest.

Admittedly, I’m just finding my way into the art world, but to find a gallery that is accessible and shows work in the style I like — urban, contemporary and street art — is exciting. Vertical Gallery features artists from across the country as well as international artists. I was most excited to see paintings from local artists, which was what brought me in. From the moment I stepped inside, I felt welcome. I browsed and mentioned a few of of the local artists I had hear of. Patrick showed me their works and then showed me other pieces I might be interested in. His enthusiasm and willingness to share his collection was exceptional. I left with a piece that I am thrilled with, but I was even more excited to learn about artists that are new to me. Overall, I had a great experience, learned a lot, and will definitely be back.
