TRIO Salon

I came here with a mass of thick, unruly hair that was in need of an understanding stylist. I knew that I wanted a change (yet no bangs! and not too short!) and booked an appointment with Gerri. The first thing that I’ll point out is that the salon is refreshingly attitude-​free. I wouldn’t have known that Gerri is an owner, unless she told me. I felt welcomed upon check-​in and when I left the woman behind the desk even helped me on with my coat. These things sound trifling, but it is truly the little things that make a difference. Upon settling in Gerri’s chair, the consultation process began. This was definitely not rushed, as we spent a decent amount of time bouncing ideas back and forth and looking at photos-​both of myself and inspiration that Gerri had on her iPad. I appreciated being able to pick out the line of shampoo and conditioner that I wanted used on my head, and truly felt like I was being listened to, and not just one on an assembly line. At the end, Gerri even styled my hair, adding in a few soft curls. I felt like a celebrity when I went to grab drinks and attend a library event later on that evening. The follow-​up also helped cement my experience that this is a salon to which I will be returning. A couple of days after my cut, I received a phone call indicating that I can come back to receive a complimentary blow out/​styling. I have since booked my appointment and am looking forward to returning to the salon for upkeep, a new look, or special-​occasion hair.

It took me years to ever find a hair stylist I was happy with. After much failed attempts I resigned to just waiting till I go to Asia to visit family and will only then get my hair cut. But this all changed when I found Mio.
She is by far the most talented stylist around. She is an award winning creative stylist who’s produced artful styles that’s been published in many reputable magazines and have worked with many celebrities. She takes styling to the next level — she isn’t just a hair stylist, but an artist. Despite all this though, she is modest, honest, and such a joy to sit with. And even for simple non-​adventurous hairstyles, she is immaculate. Her attention to detail is like no other.
A haircut from Mio doesn’t only look good as you walk out the salon, but will grow out perfectly and will stay stylish and looking good until 6 months and beyond. This is where good and bad stylists differ, people. Even when I got a short boyish cut, a cut notorious for a painful grow out process, I was able to sport the growing out hair for over a year without ever feeling like a moppy mess. This is true talent.
The salon is beautiful as well. It is overflowing with light and has a wonderful energy, and is filled with bright and pleasant people. It is always such a treat to walk into Trio.
I live in NYC now and always fly back for hair cuts with Mio, and will forever get my hair cut only from her no matter where I’m living in the world.
Mio is simply the best of the best.

Great location, friendly staff, reasonable prices, and an overall great salon! Daniel is a hair color genius and the only person in the city of Chicago I trust to color my hair. Karah is a magical goddess when it comes to blow outs. If you’re ever considering paying $ 40 to go to a boutique blow out spot, go see Karah at Trio first! You won’t regret it!

I searched many many salons before choosing to go with Trio. I was just in town for a couple of days and needed to be spruced up before heading back home. After reading reviews and looking at websites, Trio one.
Close to where I was staying, just a few blocks away, the salon was very welcoming. Walked in, greeted right away. Was told to grab a robe to put on and my stylist would be with me shortly. A gentleman came over (maybe the owner?), super friendly asked if I needed any beverages and then took me to my station, said I would be more comfortable there, magazines to read and relax. Mirrors were positions/​stationed at different angles so I could actually see the back of my hair being done.
Vanessa was awesome. I believe she was a level 3 stylist. (you get to choose your stylist basically from junior 1 level to master stylist). We chatted about different colors and what I really wanted to achieve in the color. I told her I was comfortable with her opinion and we decided to do partial highlights. Absolutely loved the finished result! And I believe it was Cecilia that did my hair wash and finished out the blow dry– best head washing/​massage I’ve had in years! I decided to just get the standard blow dry instead of style and I felt fabulous leaving. Thank you ladies!

I found Megan on Salon Apprentice because I was in dire need for a trim.
Super easy to make an appointment with her.
The salon is nice… pretty standard.
Megan was great. Personable, but not too much. Listened to what I wanted AND delivered on it. And since she’s in her apprenticeship… it was super cheap to boot!

Another wonderful color and cut by Harlow and Annie. Harlow tried out a new line of colors and they look great. Annie did a beautiful job on the cut and I love it. I really appreciate their creativity and skill!

I give TRIO Salon 5 stars because they simply deserve it.
Since the very moment I took the phone to schedule an appointment to the time I left the place, they were really attentive and professional.
I wanted to have my hair cut and blow dry. They have super competitive prices and use great products. My stylist, ROXY was super kind and explained to me every product She was going to use and how It would help my hair look healthier and prettier. She understood perfectly what I wanted and the results were amazing.
Definitely I’ll come back soon!

Mio Sota has been my hair stylist since 2006 and will always be the only that cuts my hair until she retires. I met her first when she worked for Vidal Sassoon where she worked for a while. Unfortunely she stopped working at Sasson and left without a trace… I called around to 20 salons in the area and found her at Dennis Bartolomei. She recently moved to another salon called Trio at 712 N Wabash.
I find it very hard to find the right person to cut my hair. Mio pays close attention to all the details during my visit and clearly communicates what she is going to do for me. What I love about the way she cuts my hair is that from the moment I leave up until my next visit, my hair looks great dry and styled. I find that skill very difficult to have and she’s got it all. I refer her to all my friends male/​female and they all report back to me saying how it was the best haircut that they’ve ever had.

If you’re looking to get a haircut ask for Mio. She used to work at Vidal Sassoon and recently came to Trio. She’s one of the best stylist hands down.
Everytime I get a haircut and I just back relax and go on Facebook. It’s one of those situations where you never have to worry whether the cut is gonna be good or bad. She’s always consistent each and Everytime!
Give it a shot and I guarantee you that you will not regret it.

I’ve gotten my hair done here a couple times already and it has always been a good experience! I got my hair done by Harlow and she was great! She was very knowledgeable when it comes to what color or products to use with current hair condition. I asked for a plum/​burgundy color and she mixed the colors very well. I’ve had great compliments with my hair color since then. I definitely would recommend her! The staff is very accommodating too and they make sure you are taken care of. They also offer coffee or water as I was getting my services done.

Always the best. There’s lots of parking, shopping, dining, and even hotels nearby — but that means nothing compared to the amazing service you will receive!
I’ve been coming to TRIO for three years now — every single person working in that space is delightful. You simply cannot go wrong — in fact I will say that if you haven’t had a good experience there, you should try it again.
I have been unable to find a new salon since I moved, and I am currently flying back every two weeks for my color — that’s how good this place is.
Elea is a color genius. I fly across the country and back for this lady’s magic.

I have very long and thick hair and as a result finding a salon that does a good job with highlights is always a nightmare. Being new to Chicago I searched online and based on the reviews decided to try Trio. I was very impressed. The salon has specific groups that specialize either in hair cuts, high lighting, color etc. Vanessa did my highlights and the results were perfect! This will definitely be the place I frequent here in the Windy City.

Trio’s quality has really changed for the worse. I remember years ago that this salon used to be on all the top lists of Chicagoland. This is not the case and it really because of the quality. When I came in years ago, I had great haircuts and the stylist just completely understood what I was saying and she delivered. I walked out of the salon looking like a million bucks. I can’t say the same. Now, stylists are trying to convince you how good they are instead of their work speaking for itself. Communication between customer and stylist is a miss. Sorry to see such a salon lose out.

My regular colorist was busy so I went to Maria who I found through Salon Apprentice. When I went into the salon my hair was a warm medium brown with copper highlights and 5 weeks of gray roots outgrowth. A very natural look in need of a touch-​up. Maria and I talked about what I wanted which is exactly what I had minus the gray roots. Maria’s teacher stood by and listened to everything.
What I had when I left was at lease 6 or 7 shades darker. I was now a brunette. Even worse the coppery highlights had been re-​interpreted as an overall aubergine or cabernet-​colored. An un-​natural purple haired looked.
Figuring that these things happen and were part of seeing an apprentice albeit under the supervision of a more experienced colorist, I called the salon when I got home. Explained how I was unhappy and asked if this could be fixed. Maria was not there so I left a message with the Salon front desk for Maria or her supervisor. I did not demand that they fix it the next day but offered to come at their convenience. Maria called me the next day, listened to my request and said she would check with her supervisor and call me back.
That was 10 days ago and I am still waiting. I have gone to another salon that has told me the «fix» is about a 4 appointment process over the next 6 months.
I am dis-​appointed that the color is not what I wanted. I am furious that I was ignored and no attempt was made to correct anything. I blame Maria who cannot color hair properly and her supervisor (whose name I wish I could remember so I could list it here) who did not supervise anything.
Do not go to this salon. its location and prices may suggest Gold Coast quality. The results suggest you’d be better off at Walgreen’s buying a box of Miss Clairol.

I tried this salon after responding to an ad placed by Harlow on
. I just wanted to add some lowlights to my hair for the fall. Harlow did a fabulous job and she is really great in explaining what she is doing and is just easy to talk to.
My hair is colored blonde and she added a brown tone and a copper tone to it. I have green eyes and it really brings them out in a way that the all over blonde did not. I have had so many compliments and everyone says that it looks really natural. The products they use are all natural and my hair feels silky soft.
Plus, the service was really inexpensive because she is an apprentice. But, it did take 3 hours. Each step of the process was checked by the manager, who was also super nice. So, I knew that it was being done correctly. I am super happy with my new hair. Thanks, Harlow and Trio!

I have been going here for at least 4 years. I started going to the one in Wicker Park and transferred to the downtown location when it closed. Everyone is incredibly nice and super talented. The stylists have their licenses and are here learning new techniques. The woman in charge, Jeri is always there to recommend a new stylist when my favorites move on after the program. My color stylist Sharie is better than any high-​priced stylist out there. Karah is an amazing addition to the staff to cut and style hair. I hope this place stay around for a long time!

I recently relocated from Chicago to San Diego… Still searching high and low for hair stylists and an esthetician like the ones at Trio on Wabash!
I’m sure the guys at Trio are great, too. I just never had a service with them. However, just like the girls I’ve worked with, they’re all extremely nice and professional. In all of my years at TRIO — never once a snooty attitude!
Jeri and Roz have both cut my hair and are AMAZING! They really listen to what your needs/​wants are — and they deliver. They’re both the best hair stylists EVER! They cut long, short and curly hair. My hair is shoulder length with layers but never looks overly layered, exactly the way I like it. Only wish I could find someone in SD to do the same! They don’t judge what you request and also offer ideas to update your hair.
For waxing and facials Nicole is the VERY best!!! A total pro! Discreet, kind, fast and gentle. I highly recommend (and MISS!!) all three of these professionals at TRIO in Chicago.
Worth the $!

I had a fantastic experience at Trio Salon yesterday. Having followed Tiffany over from another salon, I knew that my cut would be of good quality, but I was also really impressed with the customer service, cleanliness and organization of the salon space, and friendly and professional vibe.
When I walked in, the owner (Alex) was having a meeting with his staff. I was a bit early for my appointment so I sat down on one of the benches, and the receptionist provided me with a delicious cup of hot cocoa while I waited. I was so impressed with not only what Alex was saying to his staff, but also his manner of speaking to them. They were basically having a discussion about the mission of the salon, quality of service, customer service, etc. I’ve been to other salons where the salon owners don’t treat their stylists as well, but Alex was the total opposite: friendly, engaging, respectful, approachable… and he was encouraging his staff to be the same. Really impressive! What a great environment to work in.
Side note: I finished my hot cocoa before the staff meeting was over, and not just one, but TWO other staff members ended up coming over to me to ask if I needed anything else to drink while I kept waiting. So kind of them!
Tiffany (who is apprenticing for another 3 months– only $ 30 for a cut right now!) did a really great job with my haircut. I’ve been going to her for maybe a year now (ish) and she has sped up her time to about an hour and a half (that’s including blow dry, shampoo, etc). I used to have a pixie cut and am now trying to grow my hair out to a graduated bob, and she and Alex (who checked in throughout the process and provided helpful, positive instruction to Tiffany) came up with a really good solution for my hair given that I wanted a trim but also wanted to preserve the length. Tiffany thinned out some of the bulk from the back and pieced out my bangs a bit. I really like it a lot!
Overall: the most positive experience I’ve ever had at a salon. I’ve gotten some great haircuts here in Chicago, but what sent this experience over the top for me was the cut PLUS the overall vibe of the place and the friendliness of the entire staff and owner. I will definitely be back! Highly recommended.

Choosing an apprentice for a haircut can be a scary situation. Luckily, mine didn’t have to be!
I had Megan as a stylist and she did a fantastic job on my cut. She’s an apprentice but was very talented and enthusiastic. Megan seemed to know exactly what I wanted and paid great attention to detail. Plus, we had great conversation.
The salon as a whole looked real nice and the staff was friendly and attentive. Overall, I had a great experience and will be back.
